Tagaytay has long been a quick getaway destination especially for those of us who live in the south…read moreof Manila. A very welcome change is the complex built by Robinson's Land collectively called Summit Ridge. Aside from the hotel, it's a very convenient stop as the shopping or mall area has several restaurants like Gilligan's, Razon's, Shakey's, Hap Chan, Starbucks, etcetera. There are also specialty stores at the second level for other needs. What I like most about Summit Ridge is that there's a supermarket (Robinson's, ofcourse) where we can get last minute or emergency stuff we fail to bring to an out of town trip. There's also several stalls (tiangge) in the open area selling an assortment of items from clothes, shoes, souvenir items and even delicacies. For those who do not necessarily intend to purchase anything and just need a toilet break, you'll be glad to know that theirs is quite spacious and kept relatively clean most of the time.

You can find THE BEST money exchange here: no id required nor paperwork to fill out. It's located on the second floor at the back of the mall. They have a Little Free Library near the concierge desk, just look for the red phone booth (like the kind you find in the UK). There's paid parking and a transportation terminal that's across the street which is accessible by a foot bridge. Don't forget to check out all the restaurants outside at the back of the mall.

The crowd was annoyingly (and unusually) huge, especially in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of the week. It got to the point we couldn't walk a few stops without bumping onto complete strangers every second or so. Big Bro and I along with a couple other family members checked out a couple of stores, and we would have wanted to check out more, but with this crazy crowd, we decided to just bounce to the hypermarket (for groceries) and SM store (for basic necessities.) Then we learned some famous artist named Coco Martin made an appearance and was clearly the reason for all that chaos. I really wish they found a better way to control the flow of the crowd. I did not enjoy that visit AT ALL. THE SECOND TIME: Much MUCH better. Still crowded, but nothing like the madness we experienced the first time. I finally got the opportunity to see the mall for what it really is. They had good selections in the food court. They also had good selections of eateries. Same with shops. They maintain cleanliness overall. Except for the horrendous traffic you'd have to go through just to get inside, it hasn't changed much since my last visit a couple of years ago.

I needed some toiletries and I really didn't have the time to go through some kind of maze to find them. Everything in their supermarket was clean and organized. I found everything I needed and was in line for payment in no time. I was almost surprised at how easy it was to maneuver myself around the store. Service with a smile. Unlike some stores they compete with, the cashiers here came with a "HI" and "HOW ARE YOU." They look like they actually liked working here. I don't live anywhere near here, but it's good to know I have options.

Street Market in Manila Philippines…read more This is the largest street market in Manila. When i hear people say "mura" (cheap) I immediately think of Divisoria where you can haggle for the final price. The place is dirty and crowded and hot but it was fun seeing the many vendors and browsing through the many merchandise. We had our cousin come with us and she was the one who haggled for us LoL! I actually found some cool items here including clothing, and knock off "authentic replica" stuff. LoL! We also found a classic mahjong set for mom and a nice embroidered "barong Tagalog" (a traditional Filipino attire) for my brother-in-law for P450 which equals to $8. Oh man, we tried some street food too like corn on the cob, melon juice and Calamansi juice. I could shop and eat here all day. The place is huge.
