This Winery was slightly out of the main bunch of Wineries closer to Mudgee town ...... but very much one of the better and more down to earth ones worth visiting.

I ordered a " grazing plate " at $30 for 3 people to nibble on while quaffing a bottle of Tinja Pinot @ $22. It was served quickly with no waiting time. The plate was expensive considering the small serves of sliced apple , mixed salad leaf, chutney, pastrami , baby olives, goats cheese, olive oil for dipping and a small loaf of bread.But is was tasty and complimented the wine . ( Some slices of Jalsberg or vintage cheese would have made the plate more appealing and given a bit more value). Our bottle of Tinja Pinot was very drinkable. The out door dinning setting of this winery is outstanding with an expansive view looking out across the valley. Rustic tables were made of big slabs of gum tree timber . The staff were pleasant and attentive. The wine tasting bar was packed and doing great trade . Was it just the glorious winters day with blue sky and chill in the air combined with laughter and lots of talking which made this a memorable occasion where I didnt have a care in the world ? Sometimes an "ash crust" is either overpowering or just a gimmick but at Pipeclay, it added a lovely char and balanced the dish nicely. I completely understand why Pipeclay Pumphouse is one the recommended places to eat in Mudgee. From the attractive dining room, exemplary service and wonderful food, it is well worth a visit.....just make sure you book!

I keep coming back to the Mudgee Brewing Company to have a listen to the many different music acts…read morethat are presented each and every week. Sometimes we just pop in for a quick bite and beer, and other times something more substantial. The service is invariably welcoming, friendly and efficient, so we don't feel rushed or pressured to spend up big. They also offer free WiFi, and can cater for the bigger groups looking for a get-together in Mudgee.

They have a roating cast of seasonal ales as well. You can sit inside under the big roof and amongst the beer vats, or at tables on the pavement in front or in the small paved side courtyard. Staff were super-friendly. It was the sort of place that had a hen do and a wine-tasting coach tour having lunch when I visited. It's a big place, with big crowds and big taste.

Grape vines span the space between the two buildings creating a cool, shaded area in between. The place has a real rustic feel to it and its obviously popular with the locals as it fills up every lunchtime. They do a great Reuben sandwich which oozes out what I swear is a homemade version of McDonalds big mac sauce. One of the best I've had for sure. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor area with water bowls spread around and a few pooches also enjoying a break from the heat on the day I was there. They're only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday night which is a shame as it would be a great dinner venue during the week.

We were seated in the courtyard, underneath the vines and there was even a live band playing some soulful tunes. It was absolutely perfect. For dinner we ordered the baked Brie (yes it was as good as it sounds), pumpkin dip with bread and stuffed mushrooms (plenty of vego options available). The food was excellent and we chose some local wine from Mudgee to match. All in all a great atmosphere, wonderful service and great food!
