Chesterbrook Academy - Newtown Square has been the worst childcare experience of my 13 years as a mom. In our experience, the environment was cold, harsh, and deeply unsettling. When children are sad or crying, they are placed in a so-called "cuddle corner" and intentionally ignored--no one is allowed to speak to or comfort them until they stop crying. Teachers follow a strict "no response" approach, meaning kids who are screaming, throwing, or clearly distressed are simply ignored. The level of rudeness, judgment, and lack of warmth from staff has honestly left me bewildered. My child came home crying many days, saying the teachers yelled at them--and I personally witnessed teachers yelling at children right in front of me. Leaving your child in someone else's care is already incredibly hard. You expect compassion, patience, and basic emotional safety. That was not our experience here. I can't speak to other Chesterbrook locations, but Chesterbrook Academy in Newtown Square is one I would strongly urge parents to avoid. If sharing this helps even one child have a safer, more loving experience elsewhere, it's worth it

No compassion showed towards kids, nor the ability to teach kids. They can only handle daycare ready kids. So if your kid is new, be prepared to pick them up by 10am, since the crying new kid is disturbing the other children. Also, have backup child care, since the school can remove the child with no notice whatsoever.

Our son started having some behavior issues at first we were told it was a phase. Even our family doctor thought it was a normal development phase. When the Daycare finally told us they felt his behavior wasn't a phase and needed professional help we started the process to get him an assessed and behavioral help from professionals. Literally the day we informed him that he had been approved for, and would be getting assistance they kicked him out because they felt he was a safety risk. however curiously during that phone conversation where we were telling them he was approved the admin stated that if the assistance was full wrap around coverage then it wasn't good enough (note wrap around is only for 2.5 hours a day and only given if the rarest of situations.) The professionals that had assessed him in their school was stunned when we informed them and literally put in writing she didn't believe he was a safety risk at all. We even tried talking to the teacher and she just told us she couldn't get involved. There was no meetings, no conversations, no warnings, there was no documentation to prove their claim. there was just a letter in his folder that day saying as of that Friday he was no longer allowed to attend. this was on a Wednesday He literally cried all night and then everyday for the next couple weeks when he couldn't go back and see his friends. We have struggled since then because he just wants to go back and doesn't want anything to do with his new daycare and it has made working on his issues even more difficult. Even now several months later we are still stunned and confused. And why we still don't know because the administrator of the site and the owner have refused to communicate with us in any fashion.

This facility does not have your child's safety in mind and administration takes zero…read moreaccountability! My child was bit a total of five times in one week (4 times in one day with a deep bite breaking skin and required 3+ weeks to heal and another bite 2 days later). The meeting with the owner included victim blaming and he was accusatory, and condescending. He recommended that OUR child move down a class with a smaller ratio since she hasn't met walking milestones even though cognitively she belonged in that class. He then said that "maybe she isn't ready for a group daycare setting" when she was the one that was bitten (see another Yelp reviewer who experienced the same). And finally, he said that maybe we should look at a nanny service since we were "looking to control the situation". We placed our daughter in this daycare to obtain social skills and be with peers. We care about our child's safety and advocated that something be done. Their response was that they meet state mandated ratios and that no further actions will be done. He then has the audacity to ask if we have degrees in child behavior or development and that this is normal child behavior. This is absolutely condescending to any parent's legitimate, justified feelings and concern for their child's wellbeing. We are empathetic to children learning and growing and that these things do happen, but it was the severity and frequency of these biting occurrences that worried us. He continued to gaslight us that we were overreacting and that this is normal child behavior. They were "implementing a behavior plan" but could not provide us any substantial, tangible plan that our daughter would not come back with another bite. In fact, he said it's bound to happen again. Very reassuring. If you value your child's safety and want a daycare that takes accountability, responsibility, and makes you feel welcome, you will not find it here.
