What a fun performer. I came across him at the Park Ridge Kiwanis annual pancake breakfast, where he was doing some entertaining mostly for the kids but definitely for the adults as well. It's through him that I heard of the Central Street Busker Festival that took place the next day and his line was loooong! Most recently, we went to his show last week that the Mt. Prospect Public Library held for spring break. That was very very well attended, with a long line of folks waiting to get in (and that's with all of us registered to attend!), but the show was a lot of fun. He did a little magic, a little comedy, and some fun balloon tricks. This guy has been doing this all his adult life--unless that's also a joke and part of his act--but regardless, he's great at his job. I booked Smarty Pants sight unseen for my child's 4yo birthday party, and it was the best choice. I booked the party at a restaurant whose sound system was inaccessible, but Smarty Pants took care of the vibes with his speaker and playlist. Once the show started, the kids were rapt and seated in his audience while the rest of us adults could watch and eat and mingle from the back. After the show was over, the kids queued up patiently to get a balloon. After receiving their balloons, they ran around playing with their balloons. These steps are all important because it adds up to Smarty Pants being the focal point of the fun for 60 people for 1.5 hours--no small feat. As the host, I was able to fully enjoy myself. A bonus was that numerous of my adult friends knew about him from performing elsewhere throughout Chicago. He's a Chicago treasure. read more

Found this extremely sexist! I was really disappointed with this balloon artist. He clearly played favorites: when men came up, he spent lots of time making elaborate, detailed balloon designs. But for women, he rushed through and only made basic "girly" things like flowers or bees, even when we didn't ask for them. He kept saying he didn't have enough time, yet somehow had plenty for the guys who were behind us in the line. It felt unfair and honestly uncomfortable to watch. Smarty pants deserves 10 stars but Yelp is stingy so 5 will do. Hired him for my son's birthday party and he was a hit. First of all I must say that the booking process was so easy. I emailed, he responded, I paid, he showed up! Bam! I appreciated that he followed up with me prior to the party. Everything was stressful so it was a breath of fresh air having one less thing to follow up on. Anyway, I was amazed at how creative he was. Everything was so elaborate. There were rocket ships, hammers, hulk ballons, wands, fairy wings, bunny ears, fabulous headbands and so much more. He was so engaging with the kiddos and just so efficient. I have been at birthday parties where I struggled to know what the creations were and Smarty pants was on the other end of the spectrum. Not only were the kids entertained but our adult guests came up to me to say how great Smarty Pants was. He arrived early to set up and was extremely professional and so smooth in his interaction with the kids. Incredibly talented with the balloon twisting. My son got a fireman hat, fire truck with a ladder, airplane (with a pilot!!), and a ball.
