Replacing a hose bib and two clean out caps cost $333.28 when I was quoted $160 per hour plus what ever parts they may need. I know there's mark up and other stuff but you be the judge? Also the work was not done that great neither, couldn't sweat a hose bib on so they drove somewhere taking about 30 min or more... so now my outside hose bib sticks further away from house. I guess you pay for there inadequate work. I thinks for sure NOT going to use again. Update: The lady in the office was very nice and reasonable. She did take it from 1 1/2 hours to 1 hour, making it $253.28. Still high, but not way overpriced. I had to drive to get my original check and give them the new check. I added photos showing the hose bib sticks out more, and the cleanout didn't get screwed down. With a little cleanup on the threads, it will be fine. I guess I have to fix that myself. I'm keeping this review as is because that was my experience, and I still will never use them again. read more

First I want to say Dave did an excellent job repairing the outdoor sewer line. He explained everything thoroughly, was on time and handled himself very professionally. However, I am very disappoint in Smelcer Plumbing for 2 reasons: 1) I was not informed when I scheduled the estimator to come out to look at the job that there would be a $250 fee for running the camera thru the pipe - even though it had already been done, I pinpointed where the pipe has issues. 2) I was quoted a price and then had it switched on me after I had spent time and money to get property ready for your workers with the understanding our bill would be reduced. Original estimate was $1600 which included removing tree that lay on top of the line. However, I was told that the estimate would be reduced by $600 if I had tree removed myself because y'all would not have to bring in equipment to remove tree. Based on this verbal conversation with your employee, I hired someone to remove the tree to get ready for your work - and anticipated the bill would be around $1000 based on my conversation with your estimator. I was extremely surprised when I removed the tree and called to get y'all to come out to replace the line to learn my bill would be $1250 instead of $1000 after the estimator talked to Brett, the owner. I spent time and money to have the tree removed based on your estimator's information -- only to learn Smelcer had changed their opinion on what it would now cost. read more

My pipes recently froze due to the freezing temps. Well water was gushing from a busted pipe for days causing all kinds of issues. City had to turn off the water as it was flooding my house. Smelscer was able to send Greg during the holiday weekend and he was able to look at my issues. The team at Smelscer fixed my issues a few days later and its all in working order. We had a sewage leak in our backyard last summer (June-July) and Smelscer came out and re-laid the line going from our house to the city line ($5,000). After about 3 months, there was a noticeable new leak in the yard. We called and requested them to come out because part of their new line was leaking. They said it would be a few days, but they would come. After several weeks of calling, we finally got someone out in December. We were told, "I see the problem, I'll talk to my boss and get back to you." They NEVER "got back with us." We called 3 times a week for 6 weeks and were continuously told "I'll get an update and call you back today!" Without anyone calling us back. We did not get anyone back out in Mid-February. When they did come back out, they claimed the leak was "groundwater" and not a sewage leak. The city of Waco came out on March 3 and confirmed it was sewage. We are now having to pay for a new plumber to come out to fix the leak because Smelscer insists there isn't a problem. read more

I've used Smelscer Plumbing twice now. They have a receptionist that works long hours, meaning I could call after I got off work. They have followed up when they said they would (I was wondering if crews were working Black Friday, she said she would need to confirm availability then call me back). Here is a REAL positive review for this company--I live in Woodway and not all my other reviews are about Colorado. Mystery leak in house. The receptionist/dispatcher was friendly and said she would try to get someone to my house that day, and she did. The plumber showed up when he said he would, he used a high tech camera and found the leak in the wall and he fixed it same day. He was honest and had skills. Why not 5 stars? His truck wasn't stocked with a 1/2 inch straight pipe coupling, which is pretty much the most common coupling in existence, and so he had to go back to the store and buy it. And that took about 40 minutes; then he couldn't get something else he wanted and so couldn't accomplish that. All while the meter is running. He and his assistant are costing over $100 an hour--so a better stocked van would have saved me some money. But $250 was cool, it could have been much worse. Or a little better. The plumber came to the house and diagnosed the problem we were having and told us if we went to a plumbing supply store and picked up what he suggested, that we could easily fix the problem ourselves and he wouldn't charge us a service call. And if this didn't fix the problem, to call him back and he would come back out and fix it. Saved us a lot of money and he was dead on about the problem and I had it fixed in 10 minutes once I got the part I needed. Another company came out multiple times without properly diagnosing the problem, and quoting us a ridiculous amount of money to complete the work when they finally did diagnose the problem. We called Smelscer to come out for a second opinion. Brett was so kind and easy to work with. He explained what needed to be done and treated me with the greatest respect. Also, the bid was much more reasonable than the previous company. They were here a couple of days later to get us fixed up, which they did with a very professional nature and all in one day. we had smelscer plumbing install two 50 gallon water heaters in 2018, one upstairs & one downstairs @ $750 each, with a 6 year warranty. within 1 year the water coming from the upstairs one smelled awful - like rotten eggs. they drained it and charged us another $200. now the upstairs water heater had cost us $950. within 3 years (of a 6 year warranty), the upstairs water heater quit working. they said it had to be replaced (under warranty) & said the labor to install it would be $600, meaning the upstairs water heater now cost $1550. also, even though they were installing a new water heater, they would only honor the 3 year warranty left on the faulty water heater. what should they have done? they should have gone back to the company and negociated (on behalf of their client - us) a new water heater with a 6 year warranty, and negociated with the company to pay the $600 installation fee. they do not back up their clients!!! avoid this company!!! read more

Plumber showed up to the location only to say it will cost 3x times more and would need to come back with two guys. All that he did was open an access panel that was already there, 20 minutes and charged $142. Practically robbed, never ever use this company. I had a slab leak diagnosed after having the front corner of my house leveled. I decided to go with Smelscers because of their great reviews on Angie's List, they were a family owned business that had been around for many years, and not having my slab jack hammered up was very appealing. After getting in touch with Curtis who I was told is the only plumber who does the perma-liner plumbing, told me my repair would be a 2 day job; the 1st day to locate the leak or leaks, and the 2nd day to make the repair. This turned into a 4 day job that spanned a period of 24 days from start to finish. Quotes and commitments were not honored, my job kept getting put behind other customer repairs, and I ultimately had to call the company to get the final leak test done; something that wasn't going to be performed until I insisted. I also had an Angie's List coupon that required a call to the owner to get honored as well. Integrity was something I was really expecting with this company with their long history of being in business along with their many positive reviews. Unfortunately my experience did not reflect that. I truly hope the quality of their perma-liner repair proves to be much better than the quality of the customer service I received. If I ever decided to trust this company again, I'm afraid everything would have to be in writing; no more verbal agreements.
