This buffet is rather overwhelming. They have a slurpee and pop section, assorted desserts with an ice cream machine and lots of toppings. There is a sushi bar, typical Chinese food with about 10+ selections and some barbecue selections as well. The sushi was okay, as was the wonton soup... the wontons were rather "gummy". I placed a catering order for our office luncheon and to say the least it was not good at all. I ordered fried chicken and potato wedges for 40 people and not one person enjoyed the meal. At $15 a person, I thought I was getting a reasonable deal. But I was mistaken. The chicken had no meat on it whatsoever. The wedges were soggy and seemed poached - no crispiness at all. The meal was incredibly disappointing and with tax, gratuity, etc it cost me over $800. On top of that, the serving cutlery that they provided had baked on food on them. Super disgusting. This has fully prevented me from ever going back to Smiley's and I would not recommend at all. I will say the pleasant part about the experience was the staff, they were nice people and were easy to communicate with. Absolute no shade to the staff, just the overall taste and cleanliness were abysmal. read more

As far as AYCE anything goes, Smiley's goes too far. There is a pretty broad selection of mostly Chinese, with perogies, bratwurst, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and sushi. Including deserts and salads, there is a lot from which to choose. But closer review shows a restaurant focussed on two things--carbs and water. Carbs are in abundance, especially obvious in the breaded shrimp particles, and sushi with salmon sliced so thin you can read a newspaper through it--roughly 98% rice to 2% protein. And so it is with just about everything on the line that has a carb component. Things like the Beef and Snow Peas had virtually no carbs, but large chunks of celery acted as the "filler". Most of the items were fairly weak in flavour, except for a few items that were either too salty, too spicy or too sweet. And then there's the water: everything was watered down. The Wonton Soup was very watery, with pasty wonton wrappers surrounding marbles of some fairly stiff meat product. I didn't try the Borscht. And of course the Iced Tea, was more like Iced Tea Water. The good items were the Fried Chicken, Ham, and Vietnamese Cold Rolls, although the Hoisin Sauce for dipping was also watered down. You can't build a meal out of a couple of good items. Selection is good for Saskatoon. 4 yelps Quality is ok for Saskatoon. 3 yelps Your typical buffett all you can eat. Lots if deep fried chicken and deep fried pork tenderlion. It's probably ok vs. other buffett places in town. If you're going to compare against a Vegas buffett you'll be very disappointed with selection and quality. Lots of people so good turnover on food nothing looked like it sat for hours with the exception of the bratsworth sausages. Price does not include any pop or coffee. read more

Favorite buffet in Saskatoon that I have found so far. The food is always tasty and fresh, and service is quite good. They have a better selection then most other buffet places, and have some interesting daily specials. If it was just a tad cheaper it would have 5 stars from me! read more

Don't do it. Don't pay twelve bucks for the crummy selection and stomach ache. And, for God's sake, steer clear of the sushi.

Smileys is an ok AYCE place. It's not that expensive so you can't expect that much. The food is ok. My wife liked the ribs while I loved the fried chicken. Food selection is good. 3.5 Stars did this buffet! There's a good mix of Asian foods, breakfast buffet and desserts! Feeling like sushi? They have that! What about some salad rolls? They've got that! How about some good ol' fashion chicken balls? They've got that too! Lunch buffet is $17.50 for adults. There is a fairly large selection of Chinese and Western cuisine (the Western bit being the breakfast foods). They have Chinese style coconut buns (gai may bao), eggs tarts and almond cookies. The buns and the egg tarts are a must try. There's a slushy machine, soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt machine, and oodles of desserts. Did I also mention they have an omlet station? Needless to say, lots of variety for a decent price. Quality is a bit above average for the Chinese and Western cuisine. I really like their chicken balls, which are more like round versions of chicken nuggets, but I'll take those over dough balls dotted with a miniscule piece of chicken. Their sushi is nothing special and to be honest, their nigiri has more rice than fish, but it will satisfy a sushi craving in a pinch. I find their rolls to be a bit better. Service is good and there is lots of seating space. There's nothing fancy here folks. Just a solid Chinese and Western cuisine buffet. read more

I went here for breakfast buffet one day and loved it so decided another day to go back for dinner and was not impressed by the food selection at all. They have a wide variety of desserts which is good. Will not go back during dinner time ever again read more
