Hopped on yelp while visiting a seaside village on a tour. It was a 10 minute walk from the hustle and bustle. Restaurant is situated in a beautiful marina. Wonderful view. Warm staff who didn't mind I didn't speak Dutch. Food was wonderful. Highly recommend!! read more

This is a must try if you're ever in Amsterdam, it's definitely worth the trip out to Volendam. I came here with a group from work and we were given a tour of the room where they smoke the fish and they taught us about eels and how they're endangered. I hope the governments in Europe figure out a way to save the eels. They are so good and it's sad to see a part of Dutch culture fading away. The fish here was some of the best fish I've ever had. There was one fish that tasted like bacon, it was so good. I would love to come back again some time I'm in the Netherlands. read more

Cannot fault the food, but service was very poor. I had beautiful smoked duck as a starter followed by a delicately flavoured risotto with seafood. However over 30 minutes after finishing eating no one came over to ask if I wanted dessert or coffee. Even after asking for the bill I ended up having to go to the bar and ask again. This place is amazing!! It is definitely worth the 30 minute bus ride from Amsterdam Central. They are famous for their smoke fish, so I got their smoked fish appetizer which comes with a sampling of the eel, sea bass, salmon, and sea bream. They do artisan smoking, so it is delicate smokiness and not overpowering. I also tried the haddock stamp pot, which is a traditional dutch dish which consists of red cabbage mixed with mashed potatoes, and meat cooked in butter and mustard (don't worry- the mustard is barely noticeable). It was sooo yummy. I am very picky about my fish, and my food, and this place surpassed expectations. read more

Wow. We took a bus tour from Amsterdam. My wife had scoped this place out as a "must" while we were in Volendam. Unfortunately, our bus tour alloted one hour for "lunch", and we were a 15 minute walk away (which obviously meant a 15 minute walk a back) -- so we had 30 minutes. We decided to chance it, so off we went. We made up some time on the walk, and advised the gentleman at the front we only had 40 minutes...he assured us it would be plenty of time. Little did we know at the time that the "gentleman" was actually Evert, the owner's son. We actually left all decisions to Evert, both for the sake of time and because we wanted a sampling that he suggested...and there is no way we could have made a better decision. First, the salmon with caviar. Two luscious bites of smoked, salty goodness. Phenomenal. Second, a sampling of smoked fish -- salmon, eel, and a third that was white and very flaky, but I cannot remember what it's called. Either way, fantastic. Third, the main courses. First we a seared scallop on a bed of tomato risotto. Easily the best scallop I have ever had, and one of the best things I've ever eaten period. I cannot speak highly enough of how delicious this bite was. Second, a crusted prawn in a sweet potato puree. Also very, very good. Last was the smoked duck, which was good, but not nearly as good as everything else, at least to me. Evert did a phenomenal job and we were back to our bus on time. We will definitely be coming back here before we leave Amsterdam. This is a place you *must* visit. Find a way to get there. Drive to Volendam if for no other reason than to visit this place. We arrived in Volendam and our hotel recommended Smit Bokkum for dinner. We arrived and were asked if we had reservations which we didn't. We were still seated immediately on a Friday night at 6 pm. We ordered drinks and starters. We got the shrimp and prawn platter and cheese although it was a dessert item... in America we like our cheese first. The starters were good and we moved onto dinner. I had fish in chips which I found very tasty with batter on the fish as traditional English fish and chips. My husband had Smoked Salmon and it was equally good. We found the wait staff and ambiance to all be above par. The restaurant is right on the water so It was a nice location too. read more

Came back for lunch this time and it was as awesome as before. We got some Radlers, eel on toast as starter as well as the calamari which was excellent. The eel was super lusciously smoked like butter and just superb! For lunch, all three of us got the fish burger. I was expecting a traditional fish burger despite the menu saying croquette, but it was amazing with robust flavors that I thought would be also amazing in a fish pie. The accompanying salad was also great with excellent dressing and the chips were crispy. For dessert I got the chocolate brownie with mango sorbet and my dining companions got a Dame Blanche and a mango sorbet by itself. My brownie was moist and full of great chocolate taste but the mango sorbet was the bomb - would totally recommend and can't wait till we come back again! read more

Great food service was ok. We came here after a day in Zach's Sachans, and Edam. We started with the Dutch shrimp and prawns....delicious! The Saffron risotto with seafood and mushrooms was outstanding, flavorful and the seafood cooked to perfection. Salmon from the smokery with tagliatelle and truffle sauce delicious. I had the fish and chips, perfect coating yet the fish was light and fluffy. This was one of the best meals we had in Holland. read more

The fish and chips were some of the best I've had , and my husbands fish was delicious and fresh . A nice place for a relaxing meal. Server had a bit of an attitude an older lady who seemed to be irritated by tourists. Seemed very friendly to regulars . This put us off but overall a nice meal . read more

Great eel toast. We stopped here on a tour from Amsterdam and walked about 10 minutes to this wonderful restaurant on the water and it was will worth it. We only had about 45 minutes but they had great fish and chips, wine and fish burger. It was of the main tourist street so it wasn't crowded and the staff was extremely friendly! read more
