I bought 5 different dishes. All were awful, all were trash. How the Picard franchise remains open is a complete mystery to me, so the French must also eat really crappy food when they don't want to prepare a proper fresh meal. ... Back to Budgen's. Market size is 75% smaller than a Tesco. Selection variety therefore is less numerous. Upside is that what is on display is usually pretty good quality and the prices are competitive especially with discounts on sale items. All fresh produce and bread I've purchased here made me quite happy. The store is sparkling clean, well lighted. My only gripe: the wine selection is mediocre. Lots of low priced generic, factory produced wines from Australia, South Africa, Argentina, etc. As France is just across the channel why are there not more French good quality wines in stock? Still, I'm a happy Budgen's customer.

A very new and clean store with plenty of well stocked shelves and staff that bend over backwards to be helpful, but without being in your face. A very nice range of home wears which are usually the bit I stand dribbling at. The food part is wonderful though, but 2 things that I really can recommend are the Prosecco and the chocolate brownie gateaux (which may explain a lot about me) and to be honest the prices are not that far of Sainsbury so if I do shop there I don't really notice a difference. I always like looking around the John Lewis department and my children love browsing the sizeable toy department. The cafe is a great place to stop for lunch, too. I have to give this store a mixed review…read more Admittedly the prices are great, they sell a huge range of products from food to clothes, toys and homewares, and the shelves always seem very well stocked. However, I do find that the store is busy at pretty much any time of day, and the store is not really set out to accomodate this. The aisles are very narrow and it's quite easy to find yourself stuck behind someone who's blocking the path. It can make your grocery shopping quite stressful. That said, they are fantastic if you order your groceries from them online - they offer sensible substitutions and the food is always fresh. Their new self-service check outs in-store are great fun!

The lunch item's that we got were fantastic. I tried a cheese and onion pasty and a Cornish pasty that was filled with beef potato and carrots. They were both excellent with crisp flakey crust and a great taste. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and we had a nice cup of tea sitting on their back patio enjoying the sun.
