Tomlinson Run State Park offers breakfast at the campground on Saturdays from 8am-12pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and it's truly a hidden gem. The food was absolutely delicious--hot, fresh, and made with care. What's even better? It's all prepared by amazing volunteers, and every dollar goes right back into supporting the park. You can really feel the community pride in every bite. We'll definitely be back again before the season ends. If you're local (or even just passing through), make the stop. It's a great way to kick off a Saturday morning surrounded by nature and good people.

First time visiting this park. It is on the small side compared to other WV State Parks. This means…read morethat it is faster to get to where you are going in the park (no long road in). As you enter the park there is a road to the right that takes you to the campground (BTW, I have rated the campground separately under Campground at Tomlinson Run State Park). As you drive forward you will pass the Park Superintendent's house (on the right). Behind the house is a tiny building that serves at the park HQ. This is where you need to go if you want to stamp your VIPP card. Not obvious and you feel like you trespassing on the residence there but just drive past and then to your right and find the stamp. Along this road on the left you will find a picnic area and shortly after you will come to the edge of a small lake (on the left). On the right is the entrance to a road the winds up and around to the top of a hill (through the woods). There are two picnic areas. The first is off to the left before really heading up the hill. This one was buggy when I was there. At the top of the hill there is a parking lot and picnic areas. Nice spot! The road that goes through the park continues onward and then there is a parking area on the right above the lake. At the lake's edge are paddle boat rentals. If you continue on the road straight on the road you will end up exiting the park.

We ended up here after a really bad experience with Three Rivers Paintball park and I must tell you…read morethat I'm so glad we did! The staff here was amazing and so accommodating. They explained everything to our group as this was their first time trying Paintball. There weren't tgat many other customers when we arrived because it was early so we ended up having our own referree and he was fantastic with our group. We ended up staying for hours as the boys in our group did not want to leave! I ended up purchasing multiple cases of Paintballs so they could keep playing. Here's a tip... when you check into this business through Yelp you get a coupon for a discount on cases of Paintballs. So don't forget to check in. The day that started so horribly ended up being so fantastic thanks to this place. The boys said they wanted to have their birthday parties here so I look forward to going back! The entrance to the space is down a somewhat steep driveway situation in the back of an establish business. Not sure how well lit their parking lot would be at night and you may feel a little nervous until you get inside. The interior is a much larger space than I thought it looked from the exterior. I believe there are two break rooms so you could be breaking next door to another group at the same time. It's partitioned very well so you shouldn't see their debris flying into your space but you will likely hear their "rage" (laughter and breaking). The owner was super nice and a great conversationalist. She provided us a music genre of our choice in our room and an extra bonus box of beer bottles. She also provided us with gloves and a face shield for safety. My reservation was for a whole hour but smashing 3 boxes of items and chatting with the owner might have only taken us 25 mins. She offered us more smashables for very reasonable prices but as middle aged adults we assumed our throwing arms might be sore in the a.m. It was so fun and we laughed a lot together. Great short little date. I brought home a Santa tea cup as a souvenir from our box. Didn't have the heart to smash him and his reindeers. Overall, GREAT experience. I wish this business well. I just found out that there's a dog park there. I started taking my 15 year old dog and she loves…read moreit. There's a side for dogs 30 lbs and over and a side for smaller dogs. There's a picnic table under a tree and a fountain to fill water bowls. I just wish I had known about it sooner. There are only 2 problems that I can see. They need to build a set of steps from the road to the enclosures. It's a small hill but it's very steep and if the grass is damp it's very hard to get up and down without falling. The other thing is I wish there was a port a john closer. Other than that my dog and I are loving it. Thank you Washington Park.

The Brooke Pioneer Trail (also known as the Yankee Trail) is a 6.7 mile rail trail running south out of Wellsburg. Sandwiched between WV State Route #2 and the Ohio River, it connects with the Wheeling Heritage Trail System. Thus a round trip of approximately 32 miles is possible if you're so inclined. As it's been our goal to try every bike trail within a 100 mile radius of Pittsburgh, my husband Rick and I decided to give these two a try. The trail is built on a former Pennsylvania Railroad line dating back to 1878. The tracks were abandoned in 1981 and planning for the trail began in 1997. At the north end of the trail, a section of track has been carefully preserved. A plaque depicts the history of the rail line. Several interpretive signs along the trail illustrate the history of the rail line and the area. Heading south from the tail head, the path dips down from WV #2,. Here you'll see transportation on three level--the highway, the rail trail, and the river. There was a gap in trail around the town of Beech Bottom, and Google Maps will have you believe the gap still exists, but the trail is now complete. Continuing south towards Wheeling ,the trail heads deeper into the river valley. As it veers away from WV #2, take a moment and enjoy the quiet. A lock and dam is located near the connection point between the Brooke Pioneer and the Wheeling Heritage Trails. If you're lucky enough, you'll spot a barge in the locks-we did! Both the Brooke Pioneer and the Wheeling Heritage Trails are paved, easy rides. All you really need is a good road bike.

I was really impressed, the staff is doing such a great job at keeping customers safe with hand sanitizing stations before you go in and inside the store. The girl who helped us was so friendly and made my daughter feel so special the entire time we were there, and her bear turned out so cute!
