Use this company without hesitation! Brian Jacobson is a man of his word, knows his business, is prompt and courteous, as are all his workers. I had occasion to use his services earlier this year when our neighbors' oak tree, which overhangs our yard, needed attention. The neighbors highly recommended Brian. Not only did his crew arrive as scheduled, Brian himself also came to make sure things were going well. The neighbors did not want the oak wood from the trees they had trimmed up, and Brian had his crew bring it all over to our yard - a LOT of it! Fast forward to two weeks ago when one of our own oaks fell across my car in our driveway on the weekend. Monday morning first thing, I called and left a message for Brian. He returned my call within 10 minutes. I explained what had happened and he said he would call his crew right away and see when they could come over. He called back immediately and said they would be here in 15 minutes! Wow, what service! They promptly dispatched with the offending oak, chipped up the smaller branches, cleaned up the whole driveway, and were gone in about an hour total. I've talked to other arborists about our oaks and always felt like something was being pulled over on me - but I fully trust Brian's judgment and advice and will use Smith Tree Service for any future needs. read more

One of Smiths Tree Service crew members backed into my vehicle with their teal, full sized utility pickup truck and dented my front bumper. Now the owner Brian Jacobson refuses to own up to it. I gave him a description of the vehicle that backed into mine and now he refuse's to get back to me. BAD BUSINESS ETHICS!!! read more

I just can't get a call back from Smith Tree Service, which is disappointing because of their great reviews here on Yelp. I've spoken with someone live who said they'd pass my contact info on to Brian, but a week went by and a made a second call that was picked up live by their answering service, but still no response another week later. Meanwhile, I have a tree leaning over in my house and the situation grows more urgent. I know the tree guys are probably very busy due to recent storms and slides, but if you're running a professional business you call people back. For example, I tried another tree service who didn't serve my area, but he called back twice and gave me some other references and recommendations. Maybe there's a great reason for the delay, poor health or otherwise, but if you need a prompt response I'd look elsewhere. read more

I've used this firm for years. Brian Jacobson, the owner (and original Smith's grandson), is as honest and helpful as the day is long. They do a great job at a reasonable price. Brian also won't do or quote an unreasonable job -- I remember him refusing to spray my oak trees against the moths, since it wouldn't do any good; discouraging me from chopping down pines at the first sign of pitch canker (yup, they're still tall and green); and referring me to another tree service for some trees that they'll be able to handle more cheaply and safely. read more

I can't say enough good things about Smith Tree Service. Brian, the owner, answered the phone quickly and was on time to estimate the job and make helpful suggestions. His fees were very reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done on our forest of old and established California Oaks. His crew was on time and started the work immediately. They were efficient, professional and courteous. Given the high level of trimming and risky areas that the limb removal needed to be done around, the work was incredible our trees have never looked better. They were trimmed with the Oak's shape in mind. They cleaned up, chipped the debris quickly and our yard, roof and patio looked better than when they arrived. Brian and his crews have taken care of our trees for over 20 years. No one is more knowledgeable, helpful, honest and professional. Our 100 year oak had to be removed and Brian's crew left the area immaculate - with branches spreading over 100 feet from the tree. i had another service come in first - they wanted to do a virtual "slash and burn" on my property and charge $16,000 - brian jacobson, owner of smith tree service came and walked the property with us - spent an hour going over different types of trees, soil condition, geology, climatic conditions, etc...it was like having a college professor give a seminar on our property - it was free and in the end he suggested we wait (we had just purchased) and live with things before we made any changes - he also told us to do a little as possible in way of trimming, etc and gave us several great tips on keeping flora healthy - he was sincerely interested in what was best for us and our trees even though it drastically reduced the amount of work/profit for him - a highly intelligent, ethical man - i would recommend him unreservedly...if only i could find more businesses like this! read more
