Awww this sucked. Lots of advertising worked. Hubby and I were traveling up 95 and going to stop for some fudge and stuff and had to use the bathroom to find their bathroom was closed!!? This isn't ok for any gas station off the exit. You lost our business. We had to go. We weren't going to hang around and shop having to pee. read more

OMG! This is a must stop if you want some great sweet treats. The first thing I noticed as I walked in to the store was Carmel turtles on the counter. The white chocolate caramel turtle was the best ever my husband says, I also agree! They have a great assortment of home made pralines. They were also outstanding! After reading the rave reviews, we had to get off 95 and have a look. Place is pretty nifty. Your one stop shop for whatever you wanna take home from the south. You can even fill up your tank while you have a look about. Homemade pralines, fudge and turtles! Lots of souvenirs, fireworks, locally made sauces, pickled stuff and peanuts. You can even get magnets from other states. lol It's worth the stop especially for the candy samples! They have beer and wine, soft drinks and hot drinks. Real friendly folk too. read more

But, once I walked in, saw all of the South Carolina paraphernalia for sale, sampled some amazing and very varied in flavor fudge, and then bought probably the best pecan pie I've ever had, I decided that I could not keep this to myself. Follow the gigunda billboard directions on I-95, going north or south, and pull off to stop in at Smith's for almost everything "country", friendly folks, freshly made fudge (the gas station owner makes it on site!), maybe even a pie (the bakery that is attached to the gas station creates these pies!), and whatever kitschy, or unique items you find on the very full shelves here. read more

Great stop. This place is the most Hershey ice cream flavors I have ever seen - and flavors I haven't seen in years! For the kids - Superman, Unicorn, Playdoh... for the nostalgic - maraschino cherry, banana pudding, cotton candy and bubblegum. They had praline and brownie, peach, black cherry, and more. Super friendly too. The store had clean bathrooms and some great southern treats too: fudge in a million flavors, ciders in as many flavors, wine, different types of pralines, and jams, sauces galore. What a delightful piece of Roadside Americana this is! It is an Exxon gas station, of course, with competitive pricing for the I-95 corridor. Inside is a convenience store and souvenir stand of a type not often encountered these days. Hot and cold beverages, chips, candy and snacks of all types are available as well as notions and auto products. But it is in the souvenir area where things really are interesting! I especially like the peanuts boiled in the shell. (In various flavors. You eat these shell and all.) There are also local preserves, salsa and hot sauces and other packaged nut products. Magnets, postcards, plates, clothing and all manner of souvenir items you never thought of before round out the collection. There is also a seasonal ice cream stand. read more

Smith's is a great place to stop for a break along the monotony of I-95 in South Carolina. They have just about any kind of local souvenier a person could want. The cider and jellies are quite tasty, especially the "moonshine" jellies. They have a decent assortment of chocolates and other snacks, and the coffee is usually fresh, even in the middle of the night. I need to pick up one of their T-Shirts on my next trip through! The staff is cheerful, welcoming you in with a smile, and happy to have a chat. The bathrooms are clean, if dated. Gas prices are average with all other stations in the area, but the "kitsch" factor makes Smith's stand out from the rest. Parking is a bit tricky and the pumps are usually busy. If you missed SOB on your way south, don't worry. Smith's has you covered. read more

What a fantastic little general store. Definitely worth finding their exit on I-95 and stopping for some local flavor. And those flavors include some AWESOME fudge, homemade jarred goods, local juices, sundry items, gifts... and... The salted caramel praline. This is the thing dreams are made of. At 3 bucks each, it is well worth the sugar rush, and the flavorsplosion in your mouth. We all know the magic that is salty/sweet these days (thanks Food Network for milking that cow dry), but to have it in this form, with brown sugary candy draped over pecans, is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Such nice folks working there too. They wanted to hear the story about our travels from Connecticut, they gave us lots of samples, they appreciated our business. Gas up and spend about 20 minutes here... you won't regret it. read more

I'm really surprised by the lack of reviews on yelp for this fun, very friendly family-run business, located inside a gas/service station (but so much more than that!). We stopped here for gas and treats yesterday on the way to Savannah, after seeing signs on 95 for fudge and pralines. The candy is made fresh right there behind the counter, and there was a fresh batch of pralines just waiting there for me. They are really delicious, as are the gophers (turtles). The fudge comes in many inventive flavors, but I just got plain chocolate, and also penuche. Both flavors were outstanding, creamy, and didn't last (in fact, I finished them off while writing this review). Btw, if you've never tried penuche, and you like pralines, you must try that fudge flavor. It may replace your praline love. I want to add here that I'm super picky, and it is really difficult to find good quality fudge. Most places do not make it correctly, with cheap ingredients, and it ends up tasting like marshmallow-y plastic. The fudge at this store, however, is very high quality, creamy, and one of the best I've ever tasted. Since I was hyper-focused on the candy, and we were pressed for time, I regret not checking out the rest of the store, gifts, bakery, or trying the peach cider or home made jams, etc. There is a lot to explore. I do think if I had children, I'd leave them in the car and bring stuff back to them, as there are too many temptations all over the place that little hands can grab. read more

We drive through on our way from VA to FL every other year, and making a stop here has become essential. Not wanting to come back home with cheesy gimmick-y gifts for friends and family, this is THE go-to place for your unique gifts and goodies. They offer various flavors of homemade fudge, as well as flavored ciders and jellys and so many other things, on top of a vast assortment of the usual gas station goods- not to mention fireworks and so many other items not offered at other places (I found a purse made out of pearls, for example). It's open 24/7 and most times we've ended up here has been between 2-4am. The people are friendly and it's just one of those bookmark places you have to make time for. I brought back some fudge and ciders for a co-worker and she was very happy. I bought some key lime and raspberry flavored cookie things for other people, tried it, and kept them for myself, they are DELICIOUS! The peach cider is excellent too as well as the strawberry. I don't like fudge but I tried a few kinds 2 years ago, I remember the watermelon one being very flavorful, to the point where I forgot I was eating fudge. read more
