The road map to ice cream indulgence

They moved but they are thriving a exit off I 95 makes their pit stop worth every creamy and flavorful ice cream moment! This old country town brick walls and rustic ambience with a large selection of ice creams to satisfy everyone's taste buds from 6 to 60! Service with a smile and story made this lil dessert jaunt pleasurable . This is yet another one of those must stops when your traveling north or south stop and get a scoop and enjoy the best ice cream in Santee

Ice cream I'm sure it's so good it'll make you scream!

A Hidden Gem with Delectable Treats I recently stumbled upon a delightful little ice cream shop with a bakery tucked away off Interstate 95 at exit 98. Nestled amidst a wide offering of gas stations and other full meal choices. Part of the year there is a charming produce stand offering fresh peaches In the same parking lot, this small gem offers a delicious experience for any dessert lover. **Atmosphere and Location** The location was perfect for a quick detour during my journey, and the ample free parking was a welcome sight. The ice cream shop itself was small but undeniably attractive, featuring cozy tables and a quaint counter area. The adjoining produce stand added a rustic touch and provided an opportunity to relish some delightful peaches before getting back on the interstate. **The Pecan Pie - A True Delight** My primary reason for stopping was the allure of their homemade pecan pie. I must say, it was a decision I will never regret! The whole pecan pie was freshly baked in-house, and every mouthful was pure bliss. The perfectly toasted pecans, the sumptuous filling, and the flaky crust came together harmoniously to create a masterpiece of flavor and texture. **Blondie Bars - A Brownie Lover's Dream** As a dessert enthusiast, I couldn't resist trying their blondie bars. These little brownie-like treats were absolutely fantastic, offering a delectable combination of chewiness and sweetness. I ended up purchasing a couple to savor during my journey, and they did not disappoint. **The Ice Cream Temptation** Though I was primarily drawn to the bakery treats, the ice cream on display looked equally enticing. Unfortunately, I was too full after indulging in the pecan pie and blondie bars to give the ice cream a try, but I am certain it would have been just as delightful. **A Quirky Service Encounter** Now, here's where my experience took an amusing turn. As I entered, there was a group of customers wrapping up their visit. While they were friendly and greeted me warmly, there was No one behind the counter, there was someone, I assumed a customer, who seemed a bit preoccupied. They were sitting at the bar, clicking on their phone, as if they were in their own little world. I looked around, looked at the ice cream looked at the menu board glanced around the shop, walked past the person sitting at the bar on their phone, walked over to the bakery rack, bought one of each of the items a full size pecan pie a small pea camp hat and some brownie things, I walk over to the counter, I set my items down in front of the cash register, I look around, Assuming the staff might be occupied with something important in the back, I take out my credit card a lay it down on top of my items, I sort of looking around I kind of sway over toward the ice cream and just glance out of the second, To my surprise, the person beside me put their phone down, stood up, and walked behind the counter. With no greeting, no hello, or any formal acknowledgment, they simply asked, "Is that all?" Though the service lacked the warmth and friendliness I expected, I reminded myself that I didn't stop for service--I stopped for the goodies, and they were well worth it! **Final Thoughts** If you find yourself passing by this area, I highly recommend stopping at this charming ice cream shop with a bakery. The whole pecan pie and blondie bars were truly fantastic and worth the detour. The ambiance and the delightful produce stand nearby added to the experience. While my service might not have been the most welcoming, I encourage you to give it a try, as the homemade goodies are simply irresistible. In conclusion, this hidden gem earns a well-deserved four-star rating. Enjoy your visit, and I hope you have a warmer and more inviting experience!

Captains Quarters is just across the street. Yelp showed great reviews and the menu was super appealing. Mix of seafood, steaks and just good home cooking. It opens at 5pm for dinner weekdays. We got there about 6 to a pretty large crowd already. Apparently the locals know . Gypsy was our amazing server. Sweet and super knowledgeable. She's this places best advertisement. She had great tips on the whole menu. She was spot on for the red sauce. Chicken parm was perfectly tender. Sauce was like Nonnas. Recommendation to do the shrimp blackened was perfect. Way too much food for sure but she did warn that we would not go home hungry!! Beer was cold. Wine recommended was perfect and did we mention Ms Ellie? Ms E is an amazing young lady who stood watch on the whole dining room. With a hawklike gaze she quickly recognized a table needing bussed or a chair needing straightened And didn't need a prompt. Her quick action ensured table turn times were super Low. Please recognize her hard work. She's making everyone money!!! We stopped by to show her our appreciation on our way out and she lit up . Two big meals. Beer and wine and I was embarrassed how small our bill was. What a great bargain and great find. We booked the same hotel for our April trip so we can come back here!! See ya soon Gypsy!!

The waitress did the bare minimum of taking the order and nothing else. On top of that, they charge an additional 3-5% after taxes for using a debit card. By the lack of upkeep on the grounds, entryway, paint and carpet, you can see that they focus on quantity rather than quality.

And honestly? It's a bit of a mixed bag -- like a taco that's mostly good but missing that one key ingredient. The Good Stuff First off, the staff? Solid. Friendly, attentive, and quick on their feet -- the kind of service where your drink gets refilled before you even realize it's empty. That alone scores points. Food comes out fairly quick too, which is always a win when you're hungry enough to consider eating the chips basket itself. Pricing is also very reasonable. Around $15 per person, which in today's economy feels like you just got away with something. Decor? Let's call it "classic." Not bad, not great -- just kind of there doing its job. The Not-So-Good Now... let's talk about the salsa. This wasn't your typical Mexican restaurant salsa. This was... something else. It had a strong marinara vibe -- like it got lost on the way to an Italian restaurant and just decided to stay. Chips deserved better. The restaurant itself is showing its age a bit. "Dated" is the polite way to put it -- like stepping into a time capsule that hasn't been updated since flip phones were king. Bathrooms? Yeah... we're not writing home about those. And parking? Tight. Limited. A little rough around the edges -- literally. Think potholes and wear that's seen better days. Final Verdict Armando's isn't trying to be fancy -- and that's okay. It delivers on quick service, friendly staff, and affordable meals. But it definitely has some areas that could use attention (starting with that identity-crisis salsa). If you're in the area and want a quick, budget-friendly bite, it'll do the job. Just maybe don't go in expecting a life-changing Mexican food experience. 3.7 out of 5 Good service, fair prices... questionable salsa decisions.

Arnando's chile relleno was a pile of fried ground beef, under a thin layer of cheese. That appeared to be all. My wife asked "where is the chile relleno?" And the bar tender said "That's it . . . see?" And under the pile of ground beef was about a one inche square of fried poblano pepper, buried. Absolutely untecognizable as chile relleno. Virtually everything see me ed to be based on ground beef. EVERYTHING!
