I bought a Chinese lantern plant from here, which kept me great company in my first year at University (until I forgot to water it and it died). As well as plants, Ambleside sells aquatic pets at great prices. I have a tropical tank at home, and many of the fish I've bought originated from here. They also sell little terrapins in store, which I'm always tempted to purchase. Ambleside is the home of Earlswood cheese, which can be found at Moseley Farmers Market. They have a much wider selection here, and sell my favourite the Warwickshire Truckle. Other delicatessen-type food can be bought from the garden centre too. It is a little pricey, but tastes delicious. At the back of Ambleside, you'll find a cafe/restaurant serving a wide range of herbal teas, coffees, cakes and snacks. Again, the cafe is a little costly, but you'll definitely be tempted to try something different, because the menu is very unusual. I bought a cup of Buddha's Eyebrow tea from here once. It was quite peculiar! Of a night, the cafe opens out into a restaurant. I am yet to sample the evening menu here, but I do intend to very soon. On your way out, you'll pass the counter, and you might end up missing the friendly dog that lives here if he's sleeping. He is great with kids and gets very excited to greet new people, which adds an extra memorable touch to this garden centre.

Personally, I would like almost everything that they stock in my garden. But this is sadly unfeasible. As well as the beautiful plant displays outside, they also have a lovely shop inside, with lots of lovely Emma Bridgewater-style gardening ornamentation as well as things for the boys like barbecues and fire pits. They also do a great Christmas tree service: they will cut and plant to your requirements as well as carrying the darn thing out to your car. The shop always looks amazing at Christmas as well, with lots of lovely hand-crafted decorations. They have their own store card as well, which is great if you're a regular. Which I am. Even if I just spend most of my time strolling around looking at plants rather than actually buying anything. Perhaps I need to get out more....

As I'm currently taming my large and unruly back garden, I'm often in here looking for dangerous chemicals! The have a 'Gardening Club' reward scheme that is free to join and actually works out as a genuine reward scheme - many is the time I've got to the counter to pay and fished out my card to receive a discount. There were some hardcore Sunday shoppers here and rightly so this place is beautiful. Full on country side vibe with every possible flower and shrub imaginable! I got my trolley and causally stilled around the centre settling on buying some sunflowers and other really hard to pronounce types of flowers for my mom and dads front garden. I have no idea who named some of these varieties of flowers....but they went innnnn...I won't lie a lot of them I couldn't pronounce but I gave it a good go..with varying results.... The flowers here are super cheap too the sunflowers were like 1.50 each and most pots are below £3...bargains galore!! The only thing to note is the tills are busy...people are flocking for a wide for those bargain blooms so set out an afternoon for this trip it's definitely going to take you a a few to see everything and pay....but that's the vibe surely...loved it.

Over the last 5 years or so, I have bought many plants and garden ornaments from Purely Plants and have always been impressed with the quality and service provided. There is always a wide selection of plants, seeds, trees and garden accessories available. On the downside, the centre is unfortuently located right next to a busy main road from Banbury to Middleton Cheney, which makes it a noisy shopping experience. Turning into the garden centre off the main road is also dangerous as it is so busy. Generally though, the store is great, there aren't that many like it in the area, so when it popped up 5 or so years ago it was most welcome. Definetly recommended.

There is a lovely cafe here, serving home made pastas, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and other lunchtime items. You can also sit outside if the weather is good. The cafe is very reasonably priced. Inside, there is a selection of outdoor wear, a small branch of The Works, a selection of cakes, biscuits, jams and condiments, and some lovely items for home decor. I have shopped at Hurrans for many years now for all my garden materials, plants and outdoor ornaments. The centre is big, with a large selection of plants in all kinds, shapes and sizes. The outdoor section is equally big with large stone ornaments such as bird tables, pots and urns. In addition to this there is a large aquarium with numerous fish available. We have purchased many goldfish at Hurrans too over the years, and have been more than satisfied each time. The Centre also has a really really great cafe, quite nice surrounded by tropical plants! The cafe is great value, the cheese on toast with chips and tea deal is definetly recommended, we have done that many a time. In general a great garden centre, cafe and aquarium rolled into one, located in Banbury, easy to get to, with pleasant and welcoming staff. Very recommended.

It's tucked away halfway up the Umberslade Road, and chances are you may even have passed it without knowing what it is as most of the activity takes place on the large piece of land that sits behind the houses that this place is sandwiched between. The front entrance is a fairly anonymous set of green municipal iron gates and only a small sign tells you that this is, in fact, a garden centre. The place is run by a charity that helps young people with a variety of issues and provides them with horticultural training. As such, all of the plants that that are for sale in the centre have been grown in the nursery out the back. There are a decent selection of plants for sales, ranging from potted, decorative varieties to shrubs, bushes and trees. We bought a cherry tree there last year and for a very reasonable £10 and it's still going strong in our garden. There is a small office/shop that stocks a small selection of branded products, like seeds and fertilisers, and these are also fairly reasonably priced. I often pop down there for bits of cane, or bags of compost, as well as to browse for plants to go into the areas of my garden that I am slowly starting to reclaim from the ivy and the weeds. The guys that run the place are knowledgeable and friendly and I always enjoy having a chat with them over green-fingered matters. It also feels good to be giving your money to and supporting a worthy cause. Highly recommended

It always seems quite busy here and I think that it is quite popular with the locals. They have some lovely plants for sale and they are all grown here too, which is nice to know as some garden centres buy in their plants. The prices are fairly reasonable too and all of the plants have been in good condition when I have been in. Inside the shop they have a variety of plant care products and seeds, which are always useful if you grow your own plants. The people that run the place are really friendly and definitely know their stuff when it comes to plants. They are always willing to offer help and advice. It is a great little place and definitely worth a visit.
