I've been going tubing with Cherokee Rapids on the Oconaluftee River for years and it never…read moredisappoints. The process is easy: they bus you a couple of miles upstream and you float back down to their spot on the river. The trip usually takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the water flow. The river is beautiful and the float is a great balance of peaceful drifting and fun. Most of it is calm and relaxing, but there are a few stretches of mini-rapids that make things more exciting. There's also a swimming hole and a rope swing along the way that make the trip even better. What I like most about Cherokee Rapids is the flexibility. Unlike the other company in the area, you don't have to be back at a set time to catch a bus. You can take your time, enjoy the float, and finish at their riverside landing as long as it's before 5 pm. The staff is friendly, the setup is convenient, and the overall experience is excellent. I definitely recommend Cherokee Rapids if you want a mix of relaxation, adventure, and great service.

As a teen, I would tube down this river so I offered this as an option to the man and he agreed. Given that he's a larger man, tubing was out, but a single person kayak, called a ducky, would be fine. I opted for the same thing. It was a touch more expensive vs opting for "Extreme tubing" but it was a lot more fun. We both got kitted out in our life vest, got our paddles and into the van and were driven to the Dillsboro drop off site, we were given pointers of where to go and what to look out for. The staff was great! The water was cool but not terribly cold, the river wasn't crowded for the height of summer and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was about 2 hours in the water from the time we put in until we took out. Yes, we did get stuck on a few rocks but we managed to get off of them without dumping ourselves into the drink. We certainly got an upper body workout from using our paddles!

His customer service was amazing. He made the entire experience fun from start to finish. We laughed the whole way down the river, learned so many interesting facts about the area, and always felt safe. If you're visiting with young kids, this is an amazing family adventure, and Carter made it even more memorable. After rafting, we went zip-lining, and the experience was just as enjoyable. Cole and his crew were fantastic--patient, professional, encouraging, and accommodating. They made everyone feel comfortable, whether it was their first time or not. We 100% recommend Nantahala Outdoor Center for families, couples, or anyone looking for a fun day outdoors. The staff truly made the experience exceptional. Our only suggestion would be to make tipping easier. Currently, guides can only be tipped with cash, and many people don't carry cash anymore. It would be great if the guides had a Cash App, Venmo, or QR code so guests could tip digitally using their phones. They absolutely deserve it! We had so much fun ebiking in Banff last summer that i thought it would be fun to do in Asheville…read moretoo. I booked the easy ebike ride which was a 12 mile bike ride into Tennessee. We had a 2pm start (1:30pm arrival) and were the only people registered so private ebike tour for us. TJ was our guide and he was training someone so we ended up with 2 guides, which was great. Both of them were very knowledgable about Asheville, nature (i learned what poison ivy looks like) and biking. It took me a few minutes to get my ebike bearings, but then were off. The first part of the ride was on gravel, which was a little tricky, but it was all good when we hit the road. It also started raining and we got pretty wet...i couldn't decide if the rain made the ride miserable or more fun. Maybe both! The biking itself wasn't too hard and honestly we probably could have done it on regular bikes and gotten a workout, but i do find ebiking super fun. We stopped a few times, which helped with our sore butts and learned about the area. A few hours later we said goodbye to our new friends and headed back to Asheville (about an hour away). They also offer many other activities like white water rafting so recommended if you're looking for a little adventure.

As a family, we have done guided, self guided, and tandem kayaks. If you do the kayaks, I encourage you to get the wetsuits - even in July. Fast Rivers is a family owned business that really cares about your experience. Their guides are well trained and watch out for everyone on the river. They are super friendly and most importantly, experienced. On our last trip down the Nantahala, my husband went with my son in a two person kayak. He is not as experienced on rivers as me, but has done a few. He was thrown and was having a very hard time getting back into the boat and reoriented. One of the guides stopped his trip and took care of my husband and 12 year old. He talked him through the whole process and handled the whole situation perfectly. Again, can't say enough good things about Fast Rivers. Only suggestion- manually put their address in GPS. The old location showed up when I automatically clicked on an old link making us slightly late. The business is very close to where the rafts are put in on the Nantahala and on the other end of the river run from NOC.

Also, the Oconaluftee is so clean and clear. You should know that it is cash only. Driver drops you off and gives you instructions on where to get out of the river to be picked up. Life jackets were optional and we didn't wear them but probably should have. Daughter's boyfriend lost his tube at some point and she got pretty beat up by the rocks trying to retrieve it and get it back to him. Overall so much fun but my teeth were chattering by the end. Would definitely redo in warmer weather!
