One of the highlights of our most recent trip to WNC. We have tubed in Cherokee and Canton, but this river was our favorite. Neither too slow or too crazy. My family was grumpy about going, but the day turned out to be beautiful, and we loved it. We opted for a guided river raft. Eden was our guide, and she was great. I just stumbled onto this. They took me without reservation. 5-mile run with cat 1 and 2 white water was a breeze and super relaxing. First make sure you bring water shoes because you will definitely need them . They never told us over the phone and we had to buy them there . We are lucky they had 5 pairs and our sizes . They also don't tell you there is a section of the rapids that is very dangerous and has rubar wire that if you go over it you get cut up . They tell you that as they drop you off up the road . So you have too look for a black flag and paddle your butt over to the left before you head over the class 3 rapids . Once you get out , you have to walk through this section with your tube and put yourself back in . My sister in law almost smashed her head on the rock while she went back in . I really didn't enjoy this because I felt it was not Relaxing , it was very stressful . The rapids were rough the day we went and my niece got stuck on a rock and was sinking . If you go just be careful . read more

This is my third review of the small company. The first was 5 stars when Shane owned the company. A year or two ago, Shane sold the company and the service quickly went downhill. However, this year a young couple purchased the company and they appear to be doing a great job. The river was amazing today in a Ducky. It felt like five miles of waves. My advice: Go explore the "Tuk". Dillsboro River Company does a fine job. We just got back from 5 days in the beautiful North Carolina mountains and we floated and rafted on the "Tuk" - 3 days. I had a group of 5 kids (10 to 14 years old) and they LOVED it. The raft trip takes between 2 and 2.5 hours and has some fun little rapids. We also had 3 people that were not very outdoorsy and took them down in rafts and they loved it! Very scenic and not nearly as crowded as the Nantahala. The water is warmer then the Nantahala and there are good stretches to cool down and float in your PFD out of the boat. The staff was hard working and did a good job of keeping us informed. As soon as we got to the river, the kids wanted to jump in and start rafting. Everyone wants to get started. The staff needed the time to make sure all safety equipment is distributed, fitted and the proper equipment given out so make sure you plan 10 - 20 minutes to complete paperwork, get your PFDs, and equipment. All rafting operations are a bit of hurry up and wait but that is so they can sort out the people and make sure each group gets the right equipment. Enjoy the view, play in the water and you will be on your way soon. Our family does a good bit of paddling and I felt confident letting my 10 year old daughter paddle a single inflatable kayak. The boys that were 13 years old loved them. If you let a younger child paddle an inflatable, make sure you practice good protocol and set up a rescue below the swifter rapids just in case. I am sure they will be fine but be prepared. You might ask why would we do it 3 times in 4 days (we did the Nantahala on the other day during July 4th week and that was like bumper boats and super shallow and rocky)? A: It was simple, beautiful and fun. We did the trip multiple times and we used our own equipment, the medium sized rafts, doubles, singles and tubes. Each piece of equipment really gives you a different experience. It was well worth it. Alex was super helpful and gave us good information on the river and the local entertainment/dining options. We interacted with about 5 other staff members during our trips and they were all super helpful. Practice good etiquette and make sure to tip your guides and drivers. These young kids work hard during the season and a couple extra bucks goes a long way. Just my two cents from an "older" river rat. The Popsicle after the trip were a nice touch. Well run family-friendly outfit with well maintained equipment and great guides. This was our first time on the river and we elected to take individual kayaks, but follow one of the guides that was in a raft to navigate the rapids. Had a great time and will be back next summer. Consult the staff to decide the best way to enjoy the river based on weather and water level conditions. What a great adventure. My six year old granddaughter and I went down the river with our guide Nicole. We could not have had a better time. Nicole made Arden the boat captain and really kept her entertained the entire trip. Our guide Nicole took Arden up on the jumping rock and leaped into the river with her. What a great experience. Amazing experience for us! We usually kayak in Florida rivers, mangroves, open ocean ...etc which have no rock obstructions or rapids .... just choppy waters... We had only kayaked the Toccoa River in blue ridge area, which is mostly class 1... this was "a whole nother level" LOL! Lots of class 2 for a challenge with us newbies. There were three of us in single duckies (inflatable kayaks) which were perfect and super comfortable. I love the inflatables and I did get stuck on two rocks in rapids and was able to scootch and get myself off the Rocks without tipping. It was scary for me but challenging and fun at the same time! Be prepared if your trying this out for first time. A man on a family raft ride fell off in the rapids and his raft went far ahead so I offered for him to hold on to my kayak for a while through and I ended up going backwards through it all. It was pretty crazy for both of us! He made it to his raft ok as my hubby caught him at the calmer spot and pulled him towards his family and guide. Lost his pants and glasses in the ordeal- but we left after that point thankful he made it ok. As far as the company- they were super sweet on the phone, took the time to answer my questions, and set us out prepared with info we needed to navigate. Life vests fit good too. Very helpful and kind service! (They have healthy snacks available, T-shirt's, some water shoes, few toys and homemade soaps there too! Bonus!) Would use them again for sure!!! read more

Incredible experience for our whole family! 8 of us were able to get into one raft with our guide, Adam. He was extremely knowledgeable, kind, funny, and helpful. We stopped in and they were able to accommodate us immediately and were so very friendly. We had one raft for all of us and the kids ages 8-11 had a blast as did the parents. We had a fantastic time today with a RMR raft and the best part was our guide Clark!! The funniest yet informative guide we've ever had. We had 2 kiddos with us who have not rafted before and Clark made sure they had a great time and was so patient guiding them when to paddle and what to do when going over the rocks! It was a blast! It was long enough to stop at a couple of pull-off beaches along the way and enjoy the gorgeous nature, the sound of the river, the calming view, and the breeze. This place is the best for younger kids or folks that wasn't a little bit of rapids but nothing crazy! We went here 2 years ago and decided to return because the river has more rapids than the other level 2's. We checked in and were sent to get the life jackets and the prep talk. We were assigned to Nick and we were on the river. Nick was very nice and a great guide. He gave us tips on where to eat afterwards as well. By the way, Speedy's was a great suggestion! They allow you to swim at one point in the trip thru some rapids. My husband and kids loved it! Overall great trip! We will be back!!!! read more

My father in law lost his wallet in the river, and a gentleman found it and returned it to the owner, Adam. Adam called us and coordinated numbers so we could get the wallet back. If I could rate the customer service we received at Dillsboro River Company less than 1 star I would. My friends and I were returning customers and from the moment we walked up the stairs we were greeted with an attitude by Holly. We had booked a guided tour with Storm (who we previously had a trip with and was great). Upon arrival, Holly and Alex were incredibly rude and told us explicitly how Storm had pissed them off for the day and they weren't interested in helping with "one of his concoctions". We were told that our guided tour was no longer going to happen and we ended up floating on our own. I called on Thursday and Holly acknowledged that she received my voicemail but decided not to call me back because she assumed I was "good". So did I. Upon arrival, they told us we were in fact, not good. We drove 5 hours specifically for this guided tour with Storm and they would not allow him to guide us. To say I'm disappointed in the customer service received from management is an understatement. Storm was fantastic guide and we were VERY excited to float with him again and were disappointed to not have the option. The owners need to asses who they have running their business because someone had child at work with her and Christian (another manager) had his girlfriend tag along for the day and it was an overall an unprofessional encounter. Additionally, the way they treated Storm as if he was a lower class of worker in front of paying customers was embarrassing and a disgrace to the business. If it wasn't for Storm, we would have left to go elsewhere. If you decide to lower your standards enough to use this company, make sure you personally request Storm as he's the only one with decency at this business. After the incident with the other staff members ripping into Storm, we waiting 20 minutes for any guidance or instruction. Every staff member (with the exception of Storm) at this establishment is a disgrace to the owners and they should be ashamed to have them representing their business. read more
