As I sat here drinking my high protein mocha almond smoothie, every time I detected a small bit of a solid of some sort in my sip, I found myself praying it wasn't a fruit fly. Because there were a ton of them flying around and chilling out on the counter window. Yes, I know the place is filled with fruit. Well, so is my home but you won't get swarmed by gnats at any point if you drop by for a cool drink. Whenever I go to buy bananas or plantains or any produce that might sit out in the open for more than 12 hours, I get the little plastic red apples and ACV queued up before the produce even thinks about arriving because I don't want any trouble and I know how this species can be. Speaking of species, there were actually two species of fly buzzing about. A common house fly was zipping around all over the place. Anyway, no one was out front when I arrived. Luckily I'm not a thief because I could've easily and quickly swiped the few dollars and change that were sitting on the counter behind the register. There was a lot of running back and forth between the front area and back room by two employees before I was finally acknowledged. Not sure what was going on. Finally, my order was taken after I awkwardly started giving it even though I wasn't asked what I'd like to order. But an employee did go and stand behind the register and lay staring eyes upon me, so I took that as the signal to speak. The same employee, after I gave my order, asked me in a small, nearly inaudible voice (it was very quiet in the place) if I wanted cold brew or espresso. By my request, she repeated the question and I strained to hear. The floor looked pretty dirty (needing a mop) but it was near closing time so maybe not time yet for mopping. A young man did appear from the back and start sweeping. I took photos but am not going to post them all because I have no personal vendetta with this business or its ownership. I know it's probably not their fault that so many things need attention here. You hire and train people and expect them to ensure that things are right. Asking customer service department to fix isn't going to change anything when the Rewards App is trash. Suggested ways where the app can be better for user interface and convenience but I doubt anything is going to change anyway. I've been using the app for a few years and it was better back. Why am I complaining now? The length of the Rewards gets shorter and shorter with each use and you can't even stack (example photo is a lie, you can only apply 1 reward per transaction) any of the points you accumulate throughout your use. Take other food apps for example where you have a Rewards system that you can use to stack and have actual benefits. SK is a million dollar company that tries to save every penny it can with the lamest Rewards system. The employees are great and not blaming them at all, but maybe treat them (higher salary) and customers (higher paid smoothie chefs = better smoothie quality) better. read more

Smoothies have become my somewhat-healthy version of fast food. And I finally got to try Smoothie King, which is near to where I live, on Bardstown Road. I had a few minutes to spare, so I thought I'd duck in before running other errands. And I was immediately taken aback by the number of people waiting for smoothies. A handful of people sat around like they had been there for a bit. But while that was somewhat distressing, it was evident that the clerk behind the counter was working as hard as she could to get everyone's smoothies out. And she remained polite and attentive throughout it. Poor girl needed some help. Hopefully this was just a bad day and not indicative of the usual. After about 10 minutes, my smoothie was ready. And it hit the spot. I got one of the banana smoothies. It was on the thicker side, like I like smoothies. And I appreciate that the menu points out which smoothies are good for meal replacement. I go to SK every freaking single day, I spend hundreds of dollars a month. Money I don't have, but I love the Mango Ginger Smoothie. 1st of all the app SUCKS BALLS, I normally order online and pick up, but this shitty app keeps saying something went wrong, clear cart. So, the person making my 2 smoothies did not read the print out correctly and only put enough ingredients to make a 32oz smoothie. He apparently cannot read and did not see that I ordered a 32oz and a 20oz Mango Ginger. Instead of this dumb ass going ahead and blending up the 32oz and started making another 20oz mango ginger, this Einstein Smoothie King employee started adding more ingredients to the blender. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt, maybe it will be ok. But then after the smoothies finished blending, he waited another 5mins before pouring them into cups. I was running late by this time to pick up my daughter. I left quickly, but I tell you what, that was the most disgusting Mango Ginger I have ever tasted. I threw them both out. You can choose from fruity blends, fitness blends (with added protein), slim blends (with added weight loss supplements), etc. There's something for everyone. We sometimes make smoothies at home, but honestly Smoothie King is always better. Plus, it's way more convenient than shopping for tons of ingredients and dirtying a blender. Oh Smoothie King. My boyfriend goes more than I do, but mainly just for a C4 pre-workout drink. I've gotten a few different smoothies there that are pretty good, one being the Immunity Builder, and the other being a Veggie Lemon Ginger Spinach. They are always consistent with their smoothies, and they have some great add-ins. Different protein powders, probiotic powders, etc. The more add-ins the thicker the smoothie. One thing I don't like is that some of their smoothies have added sugar...which isn't necessarily a problem, but more so the fact that they don't inform you that there is a sugar free option. If a friend/former employee hadn't of informed me, I wouldn't have known to ask. Even though Smoothie King isn't part of the "juice bar" trend, most people don't know that sugar has been added. Every time I go into this location the employees are rude. As someone who works in the food industry, I realize that 50% of the experience is how you reflect on customers. Be friendly and smile!
