International Baccalaureate curriculum has been offered since the school was approved as an IB candidate and should be accredited after a site visit from IBO in Geneva, Switzerland this fall. Long offers two sections of Mandarin Chinese and is the only middle school in Dallas where students can start on their high school language requirements. The high school, Woodrow Wilson, has been an IB World School since 2011. Long has always had strong math and science teams and beat St. Mark's several years ago in a regional competition. They did very well at state this year and one student placed tops in the state science fair (a separate competition). It's also known for its music program, which earns top scores in regional competition and produces its own original musical each year for almost 30 years running... The regional school for the deaf is here also, and although only a small part of the school, most students end up learning sign language. Where else can you do that? The building just received over six million in bond renovations. Many of the historic features were restored. It received a sixth grad wing in the last bond program in 2006. More could be done, but I'm sure the active Lakewood parents will see to that, they are renowned for their ability to get things done. Some parents seem to be a bit freaked that there is a large contingent of economically disadvantaged students (along with some very rich ones) but they usually adjust quickly and see that this is an important aspect of their child's education. In fall 2013, fewer disadvantaged children will be attending the school because of a boundary change. Let's hope it does not get too yuppie-fied as is most of East Dallas these days!

I am a die hard Maverick, through and through. I have been afforded so many opportunities thanks to…read moremy education. Throughout my 3 degrees obtained at UT Arlington, I have been in Hereford Hall many times. Name and politics aside, I have enjoyed my time in this building. I had my orientation in 2014 and the Maverick Ring Ceremony in Bluebonnet Hall last week (2018) and so many things in between here. Always spacious, decked in blue and orange. Set to impress. In early 2018 I received the Laura Cumby Memorial Scholarship and we were in one of the rooms on the third floor. What was very cool was the stained glass windows commemorating Carlisle Military Academy, which once stood on the grounds of UTA. I remember a rendezvous with a lovely classmate in 2016 at the Starbucks on the first floor. Highly recommend! Particularly when the weather permits and you can sit outside. On late nights in class I would dip in the little store and snag a protein bar. Prices are far, albeit the checkout process is often slow. All in all, this building holds some great times for me that I will always appreciate. Hopefully, it does the same for you.

The Veritas Prep On-Demand course was an indispensable resource for my GMAT preparation. My…read morebaseline score was a 650, with a breakdown around Q42 V37. I then set my goal inside of the course at 720, as that is around the score average for the programs I am trying to get in to. Low and behold, my official GMAT score was a 720, with a breakdown of Q48, V41, AWA 6.0, IR 6! Admittedly, I did not do the IR lesson, otherwise I probably would have scored higher on that section.  What I really appreciated about the On-Demand Course was that it taught all of the basics, which are covered in the Skillbuilder sections, then built strategy on top of those skills. I didn't have to worry if there was some skill that I was missing because all of the skills that are needed to do well on the test are covered.  The Lesson sections provide a strategy for each problem type and also detail the ways that the test makers try to "trick" you (the test makers more try to misdirect you). These aspects are crucial to understand in order to maximize your chances at achieving a top score.  Another aspect about the course that I enjoyed are the instructors. Lissette and Brian are fantastic instructors and they make the lessons enjoyable. Brian's stand-up comedy background is definitely noticeable, as he is hilarious.  I am more than happy with my purchase. If I had to do it all over again, I would get the On-Demand course without hesitation.  Thanks, Veritas Prep!
