If you have a large breed dog, I strongly recommend going elsewhere…read more I had been a client at this clinic for nearly a year, tolerating repeated rudeness from the front desk staff primarily because their prices were more affordable. However, my most recent experience made it clear that I could no longer justify staying. Whenever I brought in my German Shepherd, the front desk staff treated us with clear discomfort--making rude comments and acting as though they didn't want him there. In contrast, when I brought in my smaller dog (a Border Collie puppy), they were friendly, warm, and welcoming. The difference in treatment was stark and concerning. The final straw came when my German Shepherd became seriously ill late at night--he was weak, had pale gums, and was bleeding from his bottom. I contacted the on-call emergency vet, who advised me to monitor him overnight and bring him in first thing in the morning. When I called the clinic the next morning and relayed this to the front office, they dismissed my concerns and told me he was "fine." I stressed that he was not fine and requested that he be seen. The receptionist responded coldly, saying they would just put him in a kennel and that there was nothing more they could do. Despite explaining multiple times that I was following the on-call vet's instructions, I was ignored. Thankfully, I was able to get him into another clinic that welcomed large breeds and immediately recognized the urgency of his condition. They ended up saving his life. I was later told that had I waited any longer, he may have required emergency surgery--or worse. To be fair, the veterinarians themselves have always been professional and helpful during my visits. Unfortunately, the front desk staff consistently undermine that care with poor communication and, in my experience, biased and unprofessional behavior. I can no longer recommend this clinic, especially to owners of large breed dogs. The photo attached shows just a small glimpse of the blood trail from that night--what you're seeing is mild compared to the rest. The entire house looked like a crime scene and the situation was far more severe than this image captures.

I'm so upset to share what happened with Gem City. My dog got really hurt with bad puncture wounds,…read moreand even though she was struggling to breathe and super weak. It happened over the weekend so it wasn't regular hours so we called the people who work over the weekends for emergencies. We spoke with someone named Haley. She kept saying it wasn't serious enough to see her. They kept ignoring her symptoms all weekend. When she got worse, started throwing up, and wouldn't eat, and what we thought was bad bruising, we finally just brought her in, Haley just gave her antibiotics and wanted to send us home, but we insisted she stay because she was really not doing well. Later, they called us, glad we left her, and decided to keep her overnight on fluids as she got worse. Haley barely gave us any info, just saying it was bruising. The next day, we took her to CSU vet in Fort Collins, and they immediately told us that she was septic. Gem City should have caught this, especially after doing blood work. Their negligence and dismissive attitude led to our dog's death. If they had taken her condition seriously from the start, she might still be here. Avoid Gem City!!

Another horrible experience with this 3 star vet. Called over 3 weeks ago to get my pet in for…read moresurgery (was intrigued by their laser, ONLY reason). Told the person who answered the phone that my dog was not a regular patient at their vet and was told that as long as he was up to date with shots, they would happily do the surgery. Scheduled for December 16th. Fast forward to last night 12/11 at 5:15 Brittany Robinson calls me telling me they cannot do the surgery in 5 days as my dog has not had a wellness check and they don't do surgery before performing those. When asked why it was not explained when I scheduled the appointment, technician Brittany Robinson told me pretty much tough luck and that they could reschedule me into January. I asked why a paying customer is having to pay for their incompetence. Some of us take our animals health very seriously and have taken time off of work, saved up money for said procedure, so having this canceled at 5 at night on the Wednesday before, just seemed absolutely unprofessional and I wanted a manager to call me. Called back this afternoon and Sara Boryla told me they could send me my records (which they don't have since my dog isn't a regular?) and that I could go elsewhere for the surgery. That after my phone call with Brittany Robinson the managers decided they didn't need to talk to me, and to send me elsewhere. So never was someone apologetic for making a mistake and inconveniencing me because their staff is incompetent. They have bad reviews for a reason. Spend your money at a vet who respects and understands the things we animal lovers do for our pets. Unprofessional, rude, unreliable.

Our dog died an hour later on the way to CSU. We paid $500 for this care which did absolutely nothing to give our dog a chance to survive and wasted precious time. If only we headed to Cheyenne or Ft Collins. 1 star is 1 star too many.

The folks here saved my cat's life!…read more My mom recommended Cheyenne Pet Clicic after taking her cats for shots, teeth removals, etc. Even though I live in Fort Collins, where I'm sure there are a lot of great clinics too, I come here because I have been very impressed with how the clinic runs like a well oiled machine. They see a lot of clients, yet you don't usually have to wait very long to make an appointment or to be seen. All the receptionists, vet techs, and vets I've dealt with here have been super. I took my cat, Tar, for routine shots, then later teeth removal and cleaning. Everyone was very nice and Dr. Calhoon and Ashley took the time to answer any questions I had about the procedures. They even gave me before and after photos of his rotten teeth, X-rays, and let me have the tiny teeth they removed. Recently I noticed Tar was hiding, extremely lethargic, eating less, etc. He was in good spirits but I was concerned because he is FIV (Feline Immune deficiency Virus) positive, which means he can get really sick fast. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist asked very specific questions to assess how sick he was, the nature of his illness, and she made the soonest available appointment. Within 5 minutes she called me back to let me know there was just a cancellation the day before and they could get him in sooner. I wish I could remember this receptionist's name so I could tell her that she saved his life. When I brought Tar in, Dr. Calhoon didn't immediately run a bunch of random tests, he again asked me very specific questions about his behavior, appetite, bowel movements, etc. He quickly ruled out unnecessary stuff like X-rays and did a saline test and blood smear. Within 10 minutes into the appointment and with a relatively benign, inexpensive test he had figured out he had immune mediated thrombocytopenia and anemia (his immune system was attacking his platelets and red blood cells), probably idiopathic but perhaps from FIV. Because the receptionist had thought to call me back immediately and fit me in for this appointment, and Dr. Calhoon was able to figure out what was going on with a simple saline blood solution, we we able to start treatment immediately with immune suppressants. I brought him back a few times after that to get blood tests and I cannot stress enough how close he was to going over the rainbow bridge. Every day mattered. I had to have some hard conversations about when would be the time to consider either blood transfusion or euthanasia. Dr. Calhoon and all the folks here were incredibly kind and patient in answering everything. It was touch and go for a minute there but Tar seems to be improving and living his best, most spoiled life. Tar goes with me everywhere. I moved across country and started my life over with this critter. He sleeps in my lap for car rides, sits in a chair at the dinner table to watch us eat, curls up next to me wherever I am, and won't even so much as let me go the bathroom without him. Even if the folks at Cheyenne Pet Clinic have only bought me a few more high quality of life months, I am immensely grateful I don't have to say goodbye to my little shadow yet and get to spoil him rotten.

Price gouging on medication, won't take GoodRX to help and you have to go online to access…read moredifferent prescription rates. But here's the kicker, if you don't check before the charges EACH MONTH, they will NOT notify you. My cats medication has gone from $70 to $130 in the span of a year and a half. Everytime I go In they can't even tell me what tests I'm supposed to have done, but they will hold my pets medication hostage until I do. So I go in, get close to ZERO information on my animals condition or care, they ask ME what tests I'm in for (they never even told me before I came in, so it's guess work) and then I get hit with extra charges and sub par care. The reviews don't lie, these folks are here to take your money ever since Church left and I am actively looking for more passionate and reliable care elsewhere. I can't afford to spend $130 on monthly medication on top of surprise office visits that can range anywhere between $50-$200. I love my animal more than anything in this world, I really do. Diabetes is a lifelong thing once they are on medication. At the absolute bare minimum, educate, show passion and communicate (not when it's just convenient for you financially). Thankfully, her medication is working and her diabetes has been managed. But the issue with this clinic is that they seriously could not care less until it comes to collect the payment.
