The transformation I have seen in him through his development in karate is nothing short of incredible. He's moved quickly through the program and has now moved into the intermediate level class. All of the instructors are phenomenal with the kids. The classes remain fun and age appropriate while still maintaining the discipline and respect that are the hallmarks of karate. My son participated in his very first "Dojo Duel" last spring and loved it. Dojo Duels are a fun introduction to competitive karate, allowing students to learn about competition in a very fun way. All the participants are recognized and receive medals, but they still recognize the top competitors in every age group as well. You can really go as far as you want with Fonseca. If you want to learn & compete at an international/Olympic level you can, as many Fonseca students compete on the world stage. John Fonseca himself is a legend in the sport and you will find him working in all the dojo locations and providing the students with his expertise. We love Sensei Dave at the Wilmette Dojo, he clearly cares about his students and really invests his time in their development. My son often arrives early or stays after class (by choice) because he is so eager to learn from him. He also has taken private lessons (again by his own request) so he can perform at his best in competition. He will be participating in another Dojo Duel this fall and then his first major competition, the Fonseca Cup. This place is the real deal, you will not regret sending your child.

We wish we had not listened to these people. Fonseca has been such a wonderful oasis for my kids. Let's begin with the heart and soul of the program: the amazing Sensei's. These men and women are such wonderful role models. They are always supportive, energized, and keep the class moving. They focus on the importance of character foremost rather than the outcome. My kids happily go at least 2 times a week - which is a miracle in itself. They are in a class where there is a wide range of ages and skill levels but no one ever feel intimidated or embarrassed. They get a very intense workout, while having fun, making new friends, gaining coordination and confidence. If you've ever thought of having your kiddos try Karate, don't wait! Sign them up. After years of watching my daughter train, I was approached by Grand Master Kim about joining.  It was something I always wanted to do but was concerned I would not be able to keep up the pace with the much younger students.  However, Grand Master Kim assured me I would be fine. From the beginning Master Charles dedicated lots of  personal attention to ensure I was comfortable with the curriculum.  Before long I had noticeable improvements in strength and flexibility.   Today, I am stronger, more flexible, and healthier than I was in my early 20's.  I even participate in the sparring classes and compete in tournaments; something I thought I was too old to do. Above all other positive experiences I have had here, the bond my daughter and I have formed training together is something words cannot express.  I am forever grateful to Grand Master Kim, Master Charles, and my fellow students.

However, a friend in the field recommended Master Lee as an excellent mentor, and we're glad we followed their advice. Over the past three years, we've seen tremendous growth in our son's confidence and character. He used to be very shy, but now he's full of energy and enthusiasm. This a review for the Morton Grove location…read more Our 4 year old son had an absolute fantastic time with sensei Patel in the 4-7 year old beginner class. He looked forward to each class, and was always eager to tell us what he did in class. Sensei Patel did a fantastic job of balancing the class for all ages, not sidelining anyone, and instilling an eagerness in the students to learn more. Occasionally sensei Patel had to reign in, and redirect the energy a bit, however in a class geared towards rambunctious younger learners that is to be expected. For the following session we had him progress to a beginner/continuer 4-7 year old class. We wanted to keep him at the same or somewhat higher level of expectation as in sensei Patel's class. He was by far the youngest student in the class, and the older students were obviously much further down the road with their karate skills. The class ended up catering more towards the older students (6 and 7 year olds). What is needed to engage and motivate a 4-5 year old and a 6-7 year old student is quite different. Also, there are limits to what can be reasonably expected from a 4 year old student. With that said, the instructor was very skilled in martial arts, and for older students I can see him being suitable.

This organization is teaching my boys not only great karate (both competition and real life application), but also teaches them to be healthy, disciplined and confident about themselves. All these skills are directly helping them succeed in their school life as well and making them into well rounded individuals. He liked it before, but things are even better under new ownership. It's not fair that those old reviews are still listed here. Master Chung really cares about the kids and is a kind, skilled and ethical master. He has brought a great spirit of discipline to the school and there is a wonderful new energy. This school is not about aggression, unlike many other schools. It is about spiritual discipline and focus. His is the original Korean spirit of Taekwondo.

Buyer beware - Master Kim is more concerned with money than teaching kids the art of Tae Kwon-Do…read more So much for caring about the whole person this art aspires to teach. Kim requires a contract and no matter what your circumstance - he will not let you out of it. Our son was having trouble in school and needed tutoring several nights per week and we needed him to focus on school. Life circumstances change - especially with kids. After more than a year of paying on a 2 year agreement Master Kim would not relent. Master Kim uses a hard nosed collection agency/contract management company to hide behind. We had all good intentions and our son was generally well taught, but we should have known better than to sign such a long term contract for an 11 year old.

We tried other schools in the aria and were very hesitant to try until we met Master Kim. Master Kim has a very friendly and welcoming attitude. He is easy going but also strict enough so kids will listen and respect him. He has experienced, knowledge and great work ethics to teach anybody from tiny (3-4 year old) tigers to teenagers and adults. His staff is also very experienced and traines right there is school. The program put kids through different activities and exercise, teaches them respect, self control and believing in themselves. Learning some Korean vocabulary is also a benefit.
