I was a huge fan of BNI, having previously been President of a chapter in another state many years ago so I know the power of a well managed chapter. The chapter I joined here, Client Tell in Fullerton, had some issues, among them, poor regular attendance from many members. When members don't regularly attend, you don't know about them and they don't know about you to give/receive referrals. Too, some of the members did not follow through on leads given or made it difficult to reach them. The time commitment that BNI membership in this chapter required was wildly disproportinate to the results received; in my case, one lead over nearly 5 months in the chapter and that one lead was mistaken about our services (as the member rarely attended meetings). When bringing this to BNI franchise ownership, nothing much was done. I then took it to BNI Corporate who offered to extend my membership but no ability to repair the fundamental problems that made this chapter flawed. I can only speak about this chapter and others under other leadership may have been better (2 I visited were not), but who has the time to keep shopping when there is a specific protocol they are required to follow? I also noticed very few members seemed to have business contacts to be able to refer to a business services company such as mine. The people getting the leads were consumer oriented. read more

This is an easy Yelp review! I am a life/business coach who joined Pipeline BNI in Redondo Beach 14 years ago and haven't looked back. I had belonged to other groups, and was doubtful, but this was different. The group has a proven structure that produces results; this is not a "social" or drinking club. The training is as good as any you'd receive for thousands of dollars more, and you really learn how to build your own referral network. As a coach, it's all about relationships. I LOVE BNI! I am an electrical contractor who has been in business for over 25 years. Over the course of those 25 years, I have had many ups and downs. Five and a half years ago, I was invited to a BNI meeting. Although I had been to similar types of meetings in the past, this one was different. This meeting was structured, professional, and was conducted in the most excellent manner. I quickly saw the value and joined the chapter. I was told by my mentor (they actually assigned me a personal mentor to coach me) that it may take some time to gain the trust of the members, and I wasn't to expect to make money immediately. I was OK with this and understood this fact. To my amazement, I received a $3,500.00 referral my first month, (yes, I closed it) and then another referral a few weeks later for $500.00. I wasn't sure what my mentor was talking about because I was in the money almost immediately. The referrals continued to come in, and I was also getting pretty good at developing relationships, as well as referring business to my chapter members. The first year, I made over $46,000.00, directly from my referrals in BNI. Needless to say, I was a very happy entrepreneur. Over the next three years, I averaged somewhere between $50,000.00 to $65,000.00. 2016 was the greatest year in BNI to date! In 2016, the total revenues received to my business that directly came from BNI was $191,914.00. Yes, almost 200k from the relationships I've developed in BNI. I broke some new business financial goal records last year, and I have BNI to thank for this amazing feat. Does BNI work? YES....if you work it! ....and I've been working it like crazy, and it has paid off.
