The staff are friendly and welcoming without being invasive. You have a choice of sitting outside on the patio right beside the highway or inside which is predominantly black. The enchilada was OK but the side of rice was undercooked. The quesadilla was excellent and filling but a bit overcooked on the top and undercooked on the bottom. Our experience at Socal was great. We stopped in for dinner after a day of hiking. We sat at the bar and met a great bartender. He made a couple drinks for me that I liked. My wife and I shared a burger which was delicious. I noted they don't ask how you want it cooked and it comes well. This may be a Canada thing. Beef seems to be treated quite differently here. Anyway the burger was still juicy and we enjoyed it. The bun was really fresh and soft. Service and food were great. Give it a try. read more

Disappointing meals. Ordered the salmon caesar salad, for which I specified gluten free (celiac). It arrived with croutons, which were hidden at the bottom, so I only noticed after taking a few bites. Sent it back, and got a new one. The Manager that delivered the salad said it was a good thing I had sent it back, as the bacon bits also contained gluten; not good as I had eaten some. My husband had a salad that came in a tortilla bowl. When he broke it open to eat, it was full of congealed fat from the deep fryer. Other meals being delivered looked good, just a disappointing experience for us. read more

We came here from a local recommendation. The food was good (not great) and the service was not. Decor is super cute and the place has a nice vibe. We walked in to no hostess for several minutes even though they weren't that busy. There was a patio seat but when we asked for a patio seat she said they were full and didn't even really check into it. We did get a booth but it was in the back by bathroom. Our waitress was super short, not very inviting and we felt rushed and in her way. We don't drink alcohol so perhaps she was bummed of lower ticket? Anyways, normally I write really good reviews for places and an easy to please but the service here just really did it for me. We were in Campbell River over Christmas and decided to try SoCal. They took a reservation on a busy Friday night over Facebook messenger, which in itself was impressive. The service was excellent. I had the enchiladas and loved the sauce. Just enough kick. My boyfriend loved the surf and turf and his steak was cooked perfectly. At the end of the meal, our waiter said "would you like to see a desert menu or just relax for a bit?" I LOVED that he didn't try to give us the bill as we still had wine to get through. Worst place in Campbell River. The customer service is awful and the food is just as bad. We gave this place a second chance after a mediocre experience. To our disappointment, this experience was worse than the first. They overcharged us and then proceeded to argue with us for several minutes. I will be shocked if they stay in business. Been here a few times now, the menu has changed slightly since opening. The service is very good and food tasty,the fondue appetizer isn't a fondue but a dip, tasty just the same. We will definitely return. Well we were here again with a guest, this time at dinner .Again the food was delicious and service very good. Our big complaint though ,is the noise.. omg.. we couldn't hold a normal conversation because the few large tables were so loud it was uncomfortable . The inside is all concrete and nothing to absorb the sound .. too bad ,as it will deter us from dinners there until the patio reopens this summer,we would rather listen to the traffic than the reverberating noise of a few tables with loud parties. read more

Not good! Had chipotle chicken enchiladas. Black beans had zero flavour, if not a hint of mold flavour. Tiny skimpy enchiladas no chipotle flavour. Husband had chicken tacos. Canned chicken with gobs of mayo, tomatoes and wilted lettuce. read more

SoCal Restaurant was a colossal disappointment. We ordered four bean and cheese burritos alacarte to go. We practically had to take out a second mortgage to pay for them. When we got home and opened one of the boxes that contained a burrito, we needed to find tweezers to pick it up. We were flabbergasted by the micro sized burritos we received. When we called the restaurant to explain their mistake. They assured us there was no mistake. They did not apologize or offer a reasonable solution, other than to bring them back for a refund, which we did. Campbell River is wonderful, this restaurant is atrocious. read more

We're happy to have discovered this restaurant! Excellent food. We arrived 5 minutes before closing time. They welcomed us and served a fantastic dinner. I had their roasted beet salad with chili lime prawns. My husband had vegetarian tacos. They were nice but he'll try something else next time. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice atmosphere, lots of parking, and very clean restaurant. However, the food was on the pricey side, flavours where simple and lacking, and my meal was on the cool side while my wife's was still hot. Obviously mine was ready first and had to sit to wait for hers, which indicates poor planning on the cook's part. Also, the timing between ordering and receiving appetizers and chips was very good, as was the water refills. The time between taking away the appetizers and receiving our meals, however, was about 30 minutes, during which time we never had water refills. This is in the middle of summer while eating outside. We were very thirsty, but somehow the service just stopped despite it not being very busy. There were only about 5 other groups at the restaurant. My wife thinks that they make you wait on purpose in order to serve you more expensive drinks. We have heard the same story from a few friends that have gone there. I might go again in a couple of years if the restaurant lasts that long. It feels like they are a new restaurant and have a lot to learn. There are much better restaurants in Campbell River for the money though, and I'll be spending my time and money at them for now. read more

Some of the best food in Campbell river. The staff is friendly and the beer is supper cold every week there is music and the summer patio is the best. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The service was equally as awful as the food. The table had no utensils and the waters were never refilled. Avoid this place at all costs. All the items on the menu are way over priced. The nachos look like something made by a ten year old. The chips were stale and the cheese was barley melted. Additionally, I ordered the So Cal burrito and it came out cold. The beans had no flavor and the chicken was burnt. I was utterly disappointed.
