The Social Security Office on Covington Highway is awful. The front desk staff is rude and dismissive. The gentleman who came out to address the waiting customers was dismissive also. My 5 star review is specifically related to Mr. Goard who took the time to listen to me over the phone and assist me later in person. Mr. Goard is friendly, attentive and welcoming to a caller and was 100 opposite of every other representative I previously encountered at this office. This place gives a new meaning to rude and incompetence even worse than most social security offices. The First Lady at window 22 I dealt with on my visit in early March 2024 was half way decent in personality but did not really understand what I was asking for even though it was a straightforward and I'm sure a fairly common request. Anyway she gave me incomplete info and even more egregious the information of another person, including their social security number and other identifiers and medical info pertaining to a disability claim on the print out. I shredded it immediately upon realizing what I was looking at which makes me wonder who got the other half, the print out of my info that I was requesting with my identify? This caused me to have to return on the next day I could and the wait was over 1 hour and it was not even a full lobby, but they did only have three working windows open on a Monday. The man I dealt with was by far one of the nastiest and most impatient people I have ever encountered in a customer service front facing role. This was the male individual working counter 17 on Monday March 13, 2024 at apr 2:40 pm. He acted like I was speaking Mandarin Chinese and it took me getting my attorney on the phone for him to become slightly cordial and suddenly understood the assignment. The attorney repeated the same thing I did verbatum but suddenly we spoke the same language and he understood. He goes to retrieve the request and is gone a good 30 min as I sit at the window and finally returns with an answer that I'm sure he had to ask the supervisor because he had to keep referring to his screen and his notes and was once more condescending, vague, and rapid fired the answer in a seemingly deliberately confusing and contrarian fashion. Just an all around horrible experience. This person was rude, obtuse, indolent and nearly seethingly hostile. read more

The office is very rude I was placed on hold twice and was told that the information I was giving would not qualify me to receive a replacement Social Security card after explaining to the representative several times my situation the woman hung up on me . I called in to speak with an agent in regards to my case. The person I ended up getting was VERY unprofessional. I don't know how she got hired or what the qualifying requirements are, but she definitely was not someone who should be working in a position assisting people. It was obvious that she was working from home due to how distracted she was, I kept having to constantly repeat myself because she wasn't paying attention to my answer of the questions she was asking me. She then took a personal call while on the phone with me and put me on hold when I questioned her actions. I simply hung up from disbelief of her behavior. I know plenty of people in need of a job who would be better suited for this position. read more

Depending on the agent, I have received specific and helpful information and guidance on calls and on other calls I have received conflicting information and some vagueness depending on the issue. read more

If I could rate this place a 0 I would. They literally turn their phone line off during random times during the day. Not only that, the people on the phone cannot wait to get people off of the phone. This place is horrible. The security guards who "greet" you are meanies. The lines are long, and their kiosk check in system doesn't have all of the options you might need. After spending a total of four hours there trying to get my adopted child's social security card, I was sent a letter saying that I didn't bring the correct documents. Not true. I brought what was listed on the SS Administration's web site. Avoid this office at all costs. read more

Came here with a friend last week. If someone from the office or corporate can see this yall need to investigate the woman at window 4 on oct 2nd around 9-10 am. She needs to be fired for how she treated an elderly woman who was asking about widow payments from her husbands death in june. The elderly lady was not understanding what she was saying. All the employee had to do was explain it in a diffrent way. Instead she raised her voice as if that would make a diffrence. She gave her a form and told her she couldnt fill it out infront of her she had to go back to the lobby then told her she couldn't sit at a empty spot where the shade was down because someone might call somebody to that window. Then the employee talks about her saying no you not going to get benifits because you waited a month to report the death. Like f'n lady this is a work environment. Your talking about someones personal business to other employess and so loud that other people being helped can here. She just lost her husband how about showing compassion. How about showing patience. How about being a decient human. The woman didnt come back because she heard you talking about her. She was grieving and then you embarrassed her. Shame on you. Shame on social secuirty office management because she heard the whole thing. I hope my friend doesnt have to go back. It took a lot to bite my tounge next time doubt that i will. read more

The staff know nothing of empathy or compassion. after two separate attempts to be seen in this office ,first time leaving after a 2 hour wait; last time after a 1.5 hr. wait I was called by a woman who was unwilling to hear anything I said, a complete waist of time. She spent the 5 minutes telling me why my request for a waiver was going to be denied. She continued to tell me why, accusing me of not having information I know I submitted. Sometimes correcting herself but never apologizing. I felt as if I was asking for assistance I know I am not entitled to. I understand why public opinion of government employees is so so bad, some earn it. A class in customer service, active listening and burn out is recommended. Everyone is not looking for a hand out. And stop answering your personal cell while you are with customers. I think I'll try a different location, or at least request to speak with a manager. read more

It is never fun to deal with paperwork, but our experience at this office was really good. Every staff member we dealt with, including security guards, was courteous and helpful. As we didn't make an appointment and the place was full, we expected a long wait, so we were surprised when we completed our mission there within an hour and 45 minutes. The numbering system that takes into account the kind of issue you bring seemed to work efficiently. It helped that we had brought something to read. read more

I was there early (about 7:30am) and was behind four people as we waited for the 9am opening. I was in and out within about 45 minutes. The only real issue I have is that they only have one sign-in kiosks and unless you have an appointment or are there just to get a Social Security card you have to put your info in at that one kiosk and then it issues you a number to see one of the SSA workers. I met separately with two women and although I had a made a mistake on entering my issue into the kiosk they were both very nice in dealing with my issue. Based on other reviews I was expecting to be there for at least a couple of hours. I highly recommend getting there early and stand at the front of the line if you wan to make sure your visit is of the shorter variety. I also recommend making sure you have the right paper work for the issue you need to consult with them on. My issue was related to earnings and what they would charge me for Medicare Part B. I am now retired but the decision was based on my 2016 tax return which was my last year of employment. As such I took a copy of my most recent tax return (2017) and they were able to make a copy and I was out of there fairly quickly. My experience was very positive. Even the security guy was very helpful and used a very calm voice when I asked a couple of questions. read more

I specifically signed up with Yelp to write this review. My experience was so different from the ones written here. I now notice that these reviews are two to three years old which may be the reason my experience was more positive. I arrived at 8:15AM expecting to see a line already at the door. There were about 6 cars when I arrived. Although the opening time is 9AM, the doors were opened at 8:30AM. We were allowed in and after a very efficient electronic check in process with an extremely helpful security person, some of us were allowed to see a representative and others took a seat in the waiting room depending on what service you needed. I was done at 8:46AM. I would describe the building as modern and immaculate. A second security person directed the intake process and as I waited with him for my turn, I began a discussion about the reviews I read. He said that many people complain because of the long waits since there are hundreds of people coming in daily. As far as the negative descriptions of the people that are coming in for services, the people looked the same as the ones in the grocery stores or walking down the street. I see them in Decatur, in Dunwoody, and in Buckhead. read more
