For years, I have been getting my SS checks on direct deposit to my bank accounts and have updated my info at least 3 times. At 2 p.m. today, Tasha at the Concord NH office handled my changes and -- like her co-workers of past years -- she was professional and patient as I searched for the myriad of info needed to ensure I was who I said I was. It did take about 5 minutes on hold to reach her and, b/c of the amount of info needed, this was a second call with wait times to speak to a rep from 5 to 10 minutes at 2 pm. The frustration with SS stems from the amount of info needed to verify one's identity but, unlike other agencies, SS provides a live representative and does not insist you go online with such personal info. Make an appointment if you can, because it shortens the wait. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and offer lots of good advice
