Milledgeville was founded in 1803 and was the Capital of Georgia many years ago. The downtown area…read moreis charming and has a nice line up of delicious restaurants, bars and eclectic mix of shopping that caters to the locals, tourists and students from three colleges. Outside of downtown it is all about historical sites, hiking and water activities on Lake Sinclair. The locals are close knit, welcoming and friendly. Milledgeville has most of the chain restaurants and stores, a mall, AMC Theatre, Kroger and a Publix that is in the process of opening.

Last week, I had come by to renew my U.S. Passport, and had completed the application online thru the U.S. Dept of State website. And, when it came to the entering the name and date of birth for my parents, I couldn't remember my dads', as he has been deceased for close to 20 years. And, U.S. Government said, "enter what information you know", I left it blank. When I got to the Clerk of Superior Courts office, I was waited on promptly. So, kudos and 5 Stars for service. But, the Deputy Clerk insisted that I had to have his DoB listed. :-( And of course, there is no use arguing, as they "know everything". So, then she asked me if I had my birth certificate. Duh, no. It's not required with a Passport, and I would think, a Black Star GA Drivers License. So, it was back to the apartment for me. I checked my birth certificate, and neither of my parents DoB is on it. Only their ages at the time of my birth. Luckily, an online search revealed his date of birth. So, again, because of a government FUBAR, I had to come back to downtown during regular business hours. While there was a person in line, a clerk came out. And, when I told her I'm here to renew my Passport, she handled it. So, again, prompt service. Luckily, this time around, I had everything, including my parents DoBs. However, there is yet another problem, even though there is a sign showing that the court accepts credit cards, you will need either 2 Money Orders, Cashier Checks or personal checks; 1 payable to the U.S. Dept of State for at least $110.00 (can be more for expedited service, or a file search). And, 1 payable to the Clerk of Superior Courts for $35.00 (application processing fee). Also, they keep your old passport. And, you will get 2 letters in 6-8 weeks. One with your new passport. And, 1 with your old passport. Luckily, coming here isn't a regular necessity.

Since 10/21, I've tried to get an online issue (tried to purchase some stamps, but it was Declined…read more Yet, my CC was Charged for them (cussing) . So, after renting the Minivan, I stopped here, I hoped of getting the issue resolved in person. But, alas, and as honestly expected, the clerk was unable to do anything about it. So, I will have to call them and complain. However, I did buy a book of stamps anyway, as I was completely out of them.

Expected a delivery on 8/21. Received a notice on 8/20 that said "We could not access the delivery…read morelocation to deliver your package at 2:20 pm on August 20, 2026 in MILLEDGEVILLE, GA 31061. We will redeliver on the next delivery day. No action needed." Mind you, this is a very well known business in Milledgeville, with not one, but two delivery locations of which USPS delivers to every single day, Monday-Friday. How could you not access the delivery location? We are in dire need of the products to be delivered to meet a schedule, and today, 8/21, the package still has not been delivered. I called the 800 number and held for an ungodly amount of time. I've called the Milledgeville office 7 times and no one will answer the phone. I am highly perturbed at the lack of service from our post office. Maybe I should apply for Post Master, as I can't find any information on who that is either.

NOTICE: For expired Passport holders; be sure that it's not over 10 years. Otherwise, they won't accept it. And, since they don't recognize a Drivers License from another state (roll eyes), you WILL need your original Birth Certificate. NOTICE: In addition, to obtain Tags and Vehicle Registration, you need to go to another location. Located in the middle of nowhere, this relatively small office offers ID Cards, Learner Permit, Driver Licenses + CDLs. I arrived a little before 09:00, and only one other person was there (sitting down, and doing paperwork), and one clerk. I got waited on immediately, and thought, Woo-hoo! I'll be out of here pretty quickly. Well, I showed the clerk my AZ License, S.S. Card, 2 proof of residence documents and my Passport. But, because GA doesn't accept a Drivers License from another state as proof of ID :-o, and my Passport was over 10 ye5 expired, I had to go back home, and get my 59 y.o. Birth Certificate (roll eyes). So, after getting that (since I just moved here, I thank God that I had hand carried it with me vs packing it up), I went back again. When I got there, there was 2 customers ahead of me. And, 2 clerks working the counter. Luckily, all my documents were in order, and I passed the eye test. So, in less than 30 minutes, I got my Temporary GA Drivers License; yea! But, like other states, GA issues a 30 temporary d/l, with the Permanent one mailed; why have states changed to this method? It costs more because of the paper and postage to mail the Permanent license. Now, on to the Tax Commissioner's Office :-o to get Tags and Vehicle Registration. I would have given 5 Stars. But, not knowing about the 10 year rule on Passports (nothing in the Instructions), I can't.
