They prefer that you go online and make appointments to come here. There's a sort of kiosk thing for folks to do that in the lobby. Not real user friendly. But, it's a typical government office. What about seniors who lack access to the Internet or lack smart phones? The one gal behind the glass was kind enough to provide us with a modicum of service when we asked for some help. REALID UPDATE! This…read moreDMV is the best! The best service, efficient processes, and shorter than average wait times. I came here on a "walk-in" Saturday for getting my license updated for REALID. The facility opened at 7:30am and I got in the outdoor line at 7:20am. There were probably about 50-60 people ahead of me and after the doors opened it took about 25min for me to get in the building. When I finally got to talk to a human, it was about a 1 hour wait overall. They confirmed I had the proper documents and then it was a 10 min wait to get my photograph taken. From there, I sat about 20 minutes in a waiting area to get my documents scanned and pay the fee ($5 + $1 card fee). Once I did get to the teller, Marcie (who was very kind), it was about 10 min for processing and scanning. After that, a 3 min wait to get my printed temporary REALID, until it comes in the mail in 2 weeks. In and out in just less than 2 hours. I had headphones to keep me entertained. My advice is that if you can get there by 7:00am, you'll have a real shot at getting out of there in an hour. Don't go anywhere else! This is the best. PS. There's a sign hanging in one of the offices that reads, "You don't have to be crazy to work here, we'll train you." If that's not the best example of self-awareness ever, I don't know what is.

I like the self serve postal machine when it is fully operational. I've been going to this post office for over 20 years. I wish they kept their doors open outside of working hours to drop off packages at any time. I guess they have their reasons, so no biggie. Our postal guy has been so friendly towards my Golden Retriever. She likes to greet him when we are out on walks. Overall, no complaints, good service.

With that said, here are a few tips: You cannot bring ANY food or beverages in, including water. Apparently the thought is that, instead of water, you might have a liquid accelerant in that thar bottle. If you DO bring your water bottle in, you'll either have to empty it in the plants outside of the front doors, or walk back to your car, since McHenry County's Finest at the front won't let you throw it away inside of their garbage cans. (I wonder if there are vending machines somewhere inside, though, because I've seen counsel with food and beverage items..or, maybe the rules are bent for them?) If you're taking part in a divorce hearing, good luck: the judges are known to be snarly. The one my family went in front of actually got pretty theatrical and showed huge favoritism towards a drawn-out trial involving an attorney (versus following through with a scheduled trial that we were prepared for). If you try to do something yourself and end up, say, at the State's Attorney's Office, you probably won't get very far. We actually got quite the run-around from them, so now my family's attorney has to send a letter to get the State's Attorney to act (re: having someone prosecuted for filing false charges with the court). The Police Department wasn't much better at first (the female officer at the front desk was also very snarly...sensing a theme here?), but things improved when we were able to talk to a more head-officer and he took his time out to listen to our issue and explain procedures to us since we were misinformed by others. Some of McHenry County's Finest WERE friendly in directing us to where we needed to go, and did so with a smile. And one carried on a conversation with my brother (who was wearing his military dress uniform). Maybe it's because we were wearing more than our weekend sweats, didn't look shady, my brother's in the service, and we had our 90 year old great aunt in tow? If you're bored and have nothing else to do, though, I gotta say: this is the best free entertainment/people-watching EVER.

We were in the middle of packing for a trip in southern Illinois to leave the next day! I wanted a…read morebook to read, but didn't have time to go to the library! In order to save some time I called our library, the Crystal Lake Public Library, to see if they had the book(s) I wanted to take on our trip! A lovely staff member named Katy was so helpful! She found the books and held them so I could pick them up before closing!! I wish all employees could be as patient, helpful and professional as she is!

Crystal Lake's library offers a nice selection of services. Of course they have books, and large…read moresection of both DVDs and CDs (really, I thought it was quite impressive for a small library). They have computers for patron use, lots of chairs scattered about and at least 10 tables in various areas. They also offer free WiFi (awesome), and they have charging station set up in several different areas of the library. They also have a selection of board games for folks to check out as well. I expect the aforementioned services require a library card; I live in the city and just happened to be in town and needed a place to hang out while a friend attended a funeral. But it was a comfortable, quiet place to get some work done and remain undisturbed for several hours.

Where do I begin? We had a carrier who refused to deliver to our home's new mailbox because she…read moreclaimed it wasn't in compliance. It took me three visits to the CL post office to get a manager to visit and confirm my mailbox in fact was compliant. After the carrier continued to refuse to deliver our mail, the manager had to hide out and catch her in the act. She was then removed from the route. A week later, our mailbox was hit with a bat or other object overnight and sustained significant damage. This, folks, is your tax dollars at work!

I SPOKE with a supervisor at CLPO stating I didn't want said Advertisement delivered. I asked if I could write return to sender he said yes. That only happened once and received a note from the PO I wasn't allowed to request return to sender. I've contacted Inside Shopper numerous times to cancel delivery however it's still delivered?
