Bike leader Jake and driver Nick are fantastic. We enjoyed visiting with them and swapping stories. They were personable and relatable. Thoroughly enjoyed our time with them and the 150 minutes of site seeing by bike. Simply no better way to feel connected with the outdoor environment around you, view the scenery, slow down and listen to the roadside waterfalls, feel the fresh air breeze from the distant snowy jagged peaks, hear the birds. GREAT service. They're soo nice & laid back. STORE OPENS AT 9am, NOT a minute earlier. Got there at 8:59 for 9am reservation, door was still locked. Staff opened the door at 9:03am. He was very courteous & efficient. Reservations were prioritized over walk-ins, which it's supposed to be! Helmets are included. We rented 4 e-bikes, didn't know that they require at least learner's driving permit, but they worked with us. The timer for 2-hour rental started at the time we started riding after the quick instruction, but they don't fuss about the exact minute, which was nice. They gave us a map of suggested routes & clear instructions. The bikes are well maintained. E-bikes were so WORTH it ($49 per bike) made it more enjoyable going up extended mild hills. Helmets included, but optional for adults. This was one of the funnest activities we've done during our travels. read more

If I could give this a 6-star review, I would. We booked this train-and-bike ride as a part of an Alaskan cruise. if you like a little convenience, book through the cruise line's website, if you wanna save 20%+, book through these guys directly. They met us at the cruise terminal, took us by bus to the train station, explained the whole process. Once we completed the train ride, they met us at the top with bikes, extra gears, and bottle waters. The ride is mostly downhill, the scenery is spectacular! There is a tour leader (we had Drew) and one at the end of the group (we had Jared, I think). A van also accompanied us the whole way in case we need anything - maintaining constant communication. They are true nature lovers, professional, and just genuine nice people. Highly recommend!!! read more

What an amazing team at Sockeye Cycle! From the pre-ride communication from Bekah and Alex to the on-the-day experience with Clay and Jeff -- a fantastic team that truly cares about their guests. I'll go in reverse, starting with the excursion. My meeting spot was at their location on Fifth; super easy to find. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by Clay, who would be my guide. He radio'd to Jeff what size bike I would need and all that good stuff. Whilst we were in the store, I learned about his background, his passion for adventures and Alaska. Not before long, we loaded into a shuttle with Jeff, who would drive us a few miles past the U.S. customs checkpoint to begin the tour. (Note: my tour had to be modified due to some things outside Sockeye's control -- aka, part of the train tracks undergoing maintenance.) We had a great chat on the drive up; it was like talking with friends. Once we got to the point of the bike start, there was a safety talk and a chance to ask any questions. I also learned that Jeff would meet us at a point a few miles away, just to ensure everything was good with the bikes, gear, etc. Sockeye does have windproof pants and gloves that you can use; I did end up taking them up on the gloves, as I quickly learned that mine were not great for wind. I truly appreciated that, otherwise my paws might've been a bit cold! I highly recommend this excursion, as you really get to enjoy the Klondike Highway and the outdoors. What I appreciated is that as a very small group, we were able to stop and take ample photos. Clay has a great knowledge of the area, the names of mountains, waterfalls, the valleys, etc., and is a brilliant guide. I feel confident that he could have answered all my questions, if I had more. I'm also grateful for his recommendation to walk out to Smuggler's Cove. I'd asked for how else I could spend my remaining time in Skagway and he'd suggested a wander out that way. (I also got to see him and some of the new guides heading out that way of a walk when I was on my way back. Love the fact that people do what they recommend!) For those looking to experience the area -- who appreciate the outdoors -- this is a must-do experience. Kuddos also to the Sockeye support staff, Bekah and Alex. They were great in communicating with me, letting me know that my original tour wouldn't be running as possible due to train track repairs, but gave me a few options for how we could make it right. I truly appreciate them for running this tour, even though with it being late April, it was a very intimate tour. If you're looking for something to do in Skagway, highly recommend the combo White Pass railway/Sockeye tour. The train takes you up the White Pass to Fraser, B.C., and then the Sockeye folks show up with a trailer or prepped Treks. Perfectly geared for non-athletes to climb the one "unadvertised" hill . With some momentum and the excellent gearing even this 62 year old made it up! Our guides Cristal and Cousin Vinnie did an excellent job of matching the ride to varying skills. Honestly, when we got to gearing up and it started snowing I was having second thoughts about taking the sag wagon down. But I didn't, and had a really great time. Truly epic experience. The bikes were in good condition. The ride down was beautiful and we made a stop every few miles for pictures. You go through US customs. We ended the ride at the bike shop in town. A bicycle tour of Skagway on a Sunny August morning is the highlight of my recent Alaskan cruise. Gabi is a wonderful guide. Her knowledge of the history of the area was enhanced by her perspective and her personality. Really engaging delivery. I'll remember the King Salmon salute for years because it's funny, but I'll also be thinking about Henrietta Pullen's $10 apple pies and how they helped mold the town of Skagway because it is profound. There were dozens of fascinating tidbits about the gold rush, deadly landslides and geological history, all set against a beautiful natural backdrop. Also: you'll learn about plants and fungi, at least you will of Gabi is your guide. The biking was easy peasey! Havah did a wonderful job explaining how to operate the bikes safely. And the bikes were in solid shape. I didn't wind up in her tour group, but Havah and Gabi seemed to be a great duo. read more

Purchased the White Pass Train and Klondike Hwy Biking excursion through a cruise line. Meeting up with the representatives from the company was a little frustrating as several tours were meeting at the same time in the same small area on the pier. Once we found the right people, we were taken by van to the train. Our tour guide was great, I forgot his name though. He took us to an empty train car and told us to sit on the left side for the best views. The train ride through the mountains was great, began snowing when we entered Canada. Bring your Passports! Canada Customs agents board the train when it arrives in Canada to check it. Our tour guide met us at the train station with the van and bikes. We went a few miles down the Klondike Highway before stopping at an overlook to get set up with our bikes and helmets. We were able to leave anything extra we had brought with us in the van. Riding down the Klondike highway was awesome, another guide stayed in the van behind us and signaled to the other guide when cars were passing the group. We stopped at a waterfall and a couple of other overlooks on the way down. We were able to see our train heading back into Skagway. Going through the US Border patrol station on a bicycle was different. The only thing I wish I had brought was a scarf or something else to cover my face from the wind. We rode all the way into downtown to the Sockeye bike shop where the other guide met us with the van and the rest of our belongings. This was one of the better cruise line excursions I have been on and would recommend to others! read more

This tour was FANTASTIC! It was by the far the best part of my cruise personally! I booked it about a week in advance online through the excursion site. Our tour guides were great. ASTA and another guide (unfortunately can't remember the name of her but was told she's always the caboose) were so knowledgeable and kind! The one who trailed in the back was a SUPERSTAR because my favorite beanie blew out of my coat pocket midway down and since you can't stop until told to, I thought it was lost forever. However, she was nice enough to turn around and pick it back up to give to me at the next stop. There were about 5-6 stops on the route and they're all amazing picture opportunities. You go in a single file line about 30 feet of distance between one another (my group had only about 10-11 people). It's literally all down hill except for a short half football field distance of uphill. However, you can walk up if you choose to or you can shift your bike's gears down. You definitely don't have to be in peak physical shape to do this, because we probably only had to physically pedal for about 20-25% of the ride. The rest is just coasting. Again, I cannot stay just how BEAUTIFUL this trip was. We got driven to the top (so high we were above some clouds) and then just rode all the way down. We also got to ride back down through the Canadian Border / Customs and they organize it in advance so that you all can basically ride through without even needing to show your passports. However, they do ask that you bring them just in case. Either way, we kept wondering why we needed them and it was because we started in Canada haha! Definitely wear layers as it was warm in town so my dad was like "I don't need gloves or a jacket" and then we got to the top and the temp dropped at least 15-20 degrees due to the altitude and wind. I wore a light wool jacket and pants and was perfectly comfortable. They also offer free of charge some jackets and such to wear for the bike ride down. Again, can't recommend this enough! read more

No better way to see the beauty Alaska has to offer than by bicycle!! My wife and I booked the train and bike combo tour through Carnival. The train was cool but the bike adventure was more our thing. Our guides Leanne and Kelly made all the riders feel comfortable and did a incredible job pointing out all the cool scenery and history along the way, all well ensuring everyone was safe on the 15 mile decent. We did their tour up the white pass and yukon rail summit and biked down. It was one of the coolest things we have EVER done. You don't have to be super fit to have a good time with these people. We had awesome guides, Jeff and Gabby, who were encouraging, instructive and helped us feel safe. Our driver Adam was also helpful when we hung out with him. Our family of four rented E bikes and went for a 20 mile round-trip ride that was beyond anything we could comprehend time we rode a big hills and took an Alaska's beauty. Our guides, including the amazing Dan, were helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with all of the various levels of experience within our group. Instead of a guided tour, I opted to rent a bike and explore the area on my own. Two hour gravel bike rental came out to $31. The shop is a short walk from the cruise ship port. Rentals include helmets but I brought my own because, who wants to put on someone else's sweaty helmet? The rental bike also included a water bottle and a tool kit to fix a flat tire. When in port on a cruise ship day, there are tons of tour buses running every which way. If you follow a tour bus, you can visit all the same sites for a fraction of the cost. I checked out the graveyard, the ship wreck and the ruins of Dyea, a gold rush town. read more

I was on an NCL cruise and booked a Guided Bike Ride from the summit of the US / Canada Border on 8/31. It was a fun and memorable tour. The temperature was cold at the summit; fortunately, they provided a windbreaker and gloves. However, halfway through it got warm and returned the windbreaker. Anna and Natalie were our guides and they were GREAT! Clark was the van driver and he was very helpful. I would highly recommend Sockeye Cycle when in Skagway. read more

By our third stop I was begging the lead tour guide to go faster. I found myself riding my brakes all the way down the Klondike Hwy. Great tour led by the energetic Melody. Flew down the summit to sea on hardtail Trek Marlin 5's. It's a road ride and is easy since you don't have to ride uphill much at all. Safety is paramount, so they don't really let you go that fast. Put some space between the person in front of you and you can hit 30mph though. Beautiful scenery and a great ride. Next time I might opt to ride up and then down though for more of a challenge. read more

Really fun and easy bike ride. The best part was actually going through town at the end of it. Plus our guides were super nice. I have two gripes though. I wish the van had followed us down because I desperately needed to shed some layers toward the end of the bike trail. Peddling with two jackets on nearly had me passing out. Also, we were stuck behind people who kept breaking and going incredibly slow because they wanted to bike behind their family. It was such a bummer not to fly down the mountain like we wanted and the guides didn't do anything to suggest they move to the back so we could enjoy our experience. read more

Adam, Alex and Jenna were AMAZING! They made everything entertaining and fun. They were also very knowledgeable about the terrain and the history of the gold rush and town. They answered every question the group had. We biked in the rain but that didn't matter bc it was such an exhilarating experience! They offered a ride back down if you weren't comfortable with the speed or the conditions of the bike ride. We decided to stick to it and we're very happy with our decision. Jeff didn't complain a second despite me riding on his rear tire for 15 miles. he stayed calm, cool, and under control the whole time. Ryan was cool from the start. The bikes were in great shape, disc brake bikes capable of much more than we put them through. they had extra gear for everyone including helmets and water and even gloves that were necessary in June. wild ride that included an awesome train ride to the top before riding down the 15 miles. A bike ride through majestic mountains that requires no effort. How, you may ask? Only ride downhill! We went zooming down a mountain at 35 mph on BICYCLES! I recommend the WHITE PASS TRAIN & KLONDIKE BIKE TOUR. First, you get to ride the train to the top of the summit (see previous review). Wonderful ride. When you get to the top, you are then outfitted with equipment and bike. You then go zooming down the mountain on the main roads. All you do is squeeze the breaks to keep from going too fast. This is not an off road thing. NOTE** My mom got sick, like, vertigo, we went so fast and your going down so steep. IT WAS SO @#$%^&* AWESOME! Also, the bikes were in good condition. The helmets were clean, and we were provided water bottles. My brother got a flat tire, as will occasionaly happen. By the time all of us had pulled over and gathered together, the tour guide in back had already fixed it. I mean, these guys were very professional. They are some points of interest that we stop at, so it's not one quick roller-coaster ride. It was just simply, a blast! read more

We did the Klondike Bicycle Tour in Skagway - they seem to be very organized, the guides were very friendly, the prices weren't exorbitant, and the views were to die for! The ride is very easy - no one should be scared of taking this tour. Well, maybe my mother should be (I don't think she's been on a bike in the past 20 years, and barely knew how to ride before that.) but if you've been on one recently, you ought to be fine. I'm a little skeptical of all the 5s,.. it wasn't THAT great... We took the White Pass train up into Canada and rode bikes down. All the staff members we encountered were great. The weather, which can't be helped,... wasn't perfect so it was chilly but we still got some views. It should be noted that my chain was completely rusted and front brake not calibrated properly, and my shocks were very soft. A less experienced rider could have had issues (though they did offer to swap out bikes for me). I always enjoy a good ride and have done many tours but I think this ride is not for everyone,.. be sure you are ok with riding a highway the entire way and have the stamina to do so. read more
