Pride, grace, kindness and glee were ever present on the man's countenance until we reached our glorious decision. The price here was very reasonable and the staff was friendly. However, they took about 4 weeks to do the job and did not call me when my picture was framed. I thought they would. On the invoice it says they are not responsible for things left at the store over 30 days.... I bought a print from Soho at IDS12. The print on the booth wall looked amazing! When I brought it home and unwrapped it, I was so disappointed to see that that the print had an obvious typo on it. Quality Assurance Fail! So I called the store that day and was assured that I could bring it in for a refund - no issue. Boy, was that a HUGE mistake... When I went into the store, there was one girl was on the phone and one was helping people. When it was my turn, the one helping people grabbed the print from my hands, took it in the back and told me that she didn't know how to process refunds so I'd have to wait. Umm, really? When the other girl got off the phone, she didn't know how to either, and was pretty annoyed that I even asked her to, you know, work or something. Girl #2 called the owner to ask how to do a refund, and then was told that they hadn't processed my c/c yet, so I "shouldn't worry about it". Oh, and that clearly I "didn't know how to spell" so I should go Google what I think is a typo. I mean, seriously?! What kind of customer service is that?! The typo is super obvious on my print, it was laughable. (Erlscourt/Earlscourt . . . come on, now!) Blood boiling, I let that slide and asked for a copy of the refund receipt so that I can ensure my c/c wasn't charged at the end of the month. Girl #2 thinks I'm accusing the shop of stealing. No, really. But I stand my ground. She further demonstrates her idiocy by being unable to identify and work the Multi-function scanner/fax/copier which the other employee took pity and helped her use. Snarky comments like "you taught me something today", and "is there anything else you need? *eyebrow raised*" didn't help her general awful attitude. I hightailed it out of there ASAP I'm not sure what happened in this terrible shop and these employees, especially this awful girl. But selling inferior products to customers, then treating them like dirt is absolutely unacceptable. I'll never go back - go to Telegramme if you need things framed! read more

I noticed SoHo because the outside of their storefront was dotted in balloons in celebration of their 6th anniversary. Most things are on sale for the month of June, fyi! Unlike "Prints Charming" up the street, staff at SoHo greeted me warmly the instant that I walked in. I had them re-frame something for me, got a couple of custom mats (mattes?) done for two other prints, and a frame for one more piece. Jess spent at least 30 minutes or more with me suggesting really great colours for my mats -- she definitely has an artistic eye!! She was also able to suggest different price point alternatives for me even though I didn't ask for it. I definitely saved money on the things that didn't matter as much and she made me feel educated about spending more money on other stuff. Highly recommend! read more

Destroyed a valuable artifact. I had a valuable drawing from the 1930's done by my grandfather who is a well-known Canadian artist. It was a drawing of my grandmother reading and was signed on the backing board by my grandfather and my grandmother when they gave it as a gift to my mother on her 50th birthday. It should be obvious to any framer that this was a valuable document. Just in case, I was VERY clear with the owner that this paper with the signatures needed to be preserved and included on the back of the reframed piece. Imagine my astonishment when I returned to pick up the drawing and found that they had thrown the paper with the signatures in the garbage!!! A paper signed to my mother from my grandparents!! I'm heartbroken and furious beyond words. The owner waived any charge for the framing and was very contrite but I will NEVER step foot in this place again. I advise you to avoid it if your artwork has any value at all. Absolutely shameful incompetence. read more

I framed it myself and not too hot on the matting I chose, so I think I will go to their shop and have them frame it professionally, because when I bought the print I got a couple for 30% off....so hopefully I will get a good deal. read more

Great service. A bit on the pricey side. The woman helping us was very knowledgeable and very helpful. It was 30 minutes before closing and she didn't seem annoyed or reluctant to help us decide on some options to frame our huge picture which was really refreshing and respectful. You don't see that very often. She had many ideas for our picture and asked us where we'd be putting it and what the room was like which really helped us decide as my boyfriend and I have never gotten anything framed before. She offered to give us a 20% discount but I told her about the Yelp Check-In discount for 30% off. She was surprised that that deal was still going on because she thought it was over but she let us have it! It still came out to more than we had expected but with all the knowledge she had put forth and how she handled everything we felt like we were in good hands. It will be a couple more weeks until we pick it up but we're hoping it will turn out as great as we imagined it! read more

I purchased some boomerangs on a trip to Australia last year and wanted to display them somehow. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted or how to arrange it so I decided to take them to SoHo. I work at St. Joseph's so it's just right up the street. The guy working there was really helpful and knowledgeable. He gave me multiple suggestions and ideas, i.e.: how to mount the boomerangs, colour suggestions for the backing and frame so as to make the boomerangs stand out, etc. The whole project took them about a week and a half to do and I was given a call to let me know. Overall, I was very pleased with the job SoHo did. THe price was quite reasonable too. I would definitely return if I needed something else framed/mounted. read more

To preface, please note that this review is purely based on a custom service experience over the phone, no services were purchased or judged. I work in an office nearby this shop and was looking to get a few posters mounted to a wooden board. We were hoping to go some close and support a local shop, so I called in to inquire if they might be able to help with this. The employee that answered the phone was quite court and cold on the phone and once they had realized that I was actually looking for "plaquing" and not "a dry mount" I was abruptly cut off and told to take my work to Costco because "they do that". No additional explanation was given. I know it's not your job to educate me Soho, but a little kindness to a framing rookie like me would have gone a long way! Lots of other great framers in this city, try them instead if you aren't exactly sure what you're looking for! read more

The first time I went in here the owner was working and he was so nice- chatty, kind, your typical small business owner appreciative of his customers. Nice enough in fact that I returned to have some items framed. The catch- I had a Groupon coupon to use there that said "$50 for one framed item at Soho Arts." Apparently the owner did not understand what they signed up for and tried to tell me it was $50 off an item (what the hell is the savings? I paid $50 for the coupon). The owners had not informed the employees that they signed up for Groupon, and then yelled at me and my boyfriend over the phone when we tried to explain how Groupon works and what the coupon said. They claimed the coupon was for something else, even though I had it in my hand with the exact wording. I only wanted the service I paid for- nothing less, nothing more. They claimed that they had meant for the coupon to say something else. Is this my fault? No. I respectfully tried to explain to both him and his wife that good customer service would be to honour the coupon (for which they pretended they had no idea. Come on, the internet didn't secretly sign you up). Instead, they both yelled at me, and this is not an understatement- they yelled to the point that I was shaking and almost in tears, and everyone in the large 50x50 room could hear his and her voice through the receiver. Each time they would call back after hanging up on one of us their employees did not even want to answer the phone when they saw them calling back on the caller ID. The employees tried to reason with them, I tried to reason with them, and my boyfriend tried to reason with them, but in the end they accused us of trying to scam them when in fact they pulled a classic 'bait and switch' with the coupon. The owner even hung up on me once when I tried to ask him to take a deep breath, calm down and talk to me with the respect I deserve. He then called back ordering his employee to call the police to have us removed. For what? For trying to use a coupon I bought and understand which frames it applied to? The owners of this business are completely insane. They don't understand the technology they signed up for and have no concept of customer service. The staff are very nice and tried their hardest to help out, but when your boss is a psychopath their isn't much you can do. I am sure their framing services are great, but being treated like a prisoner at Guantanamo is not for me (especially paying to be treated that way). If you choose to go here, go in and ask no questions, make no remarks, and don't look anyone in the eye. Be prepared to be emotionally brutalized. But why bother with the emotional beating? Save yourself some time and sanity by not going here. I can honestly say that I have never, NEVER, been treated so poorly by another human whom I am about to give money to. Even United Airlines has better customer service. And for those of you familiar with United, you know that isn't saying much. read more

They do okay work, but the customer service is terrible. I had some posters framed there and they wouldn't run a wire across the back to hang it. They said it would warp the frame. I collect movie posters and have had loads of big ones mounted with wires (which make hanging then 1000 times easier) by legit places in town: alternative arts, telegramne, etc. I have never had a problem. I guess Soho knows something these places don't? What happened to the customer being right, as opposed to the customer going home and fucking up his drywall hanging posters off two hooks that are tricky as hell to level? read more

Really poor customer service! A month ago I took two pieces in to be framed. When I went to pick them up they had done one with the wrong frame. I was assured by the sales person that I had paid for the right onebut the wrong frame had been sent by their supplier. So now a MONTH later I returned to pick up my painting only to be told that I owed more money. The sales person (of course - the same one that made the mistake to begin with) offered no apology. The increased cost was negligible. However, given that it was their mistake and I waited a month to get my painting I would have expected some sort of acknowledgment and ownership on their part. Obviously a couple of bucks is worth more than customer satisfaction! I will definitely not be returning. There are plenty of good framing stores in Toronto and I recommend that you go to anyone of them rather than Soho. read more

Great customer service and David took the time to do a really good and very precise job. I am very disappointed in Soho art. I have bene here before and was pleased with the job they did. I did find them very expensive compared to other places but admit the convenient location is what brought me back. However this time, I found the whole experience to be terrible. Firstly , I felt pressure to pick a matting, like the woman was too busy to help me but didnt want me looking through the mats myself. I would have been happy to take my time and chose for myself without her help. I thought maybe there was a rule against me touching the mats myself so I let her do her thing. In the end I picked one and hoped it was ok . I would prefer to leave the store feeling like I was really happy with my choice rather than just ok. Anyways, when I finally got my picture I was disappointed. Not so much in the colour choice but because I was only buying the mat, . I paid $65 for the double matting. When I got it home , as I had to put it together myself , I noticed that they didnt even attach the poster to the matting. It was 2 pieces of take at the top. Not even on the bottom???? I know I didnt buiy the frame from them ,pbut I would think a $65 purchase should have granted me a little more than no frills service. I won't be back and I will be sure to let everyone else I know how I feel about Soho Art Custom Framing. I will say that a few weeks ago , when I came in to talk to someone about the matting: I talked to a blonde girl who was super nice. Maybe things would have went better if I had dealt with her again. read more

I have not had a good experience with this store. I am having several photos framed and so far they have managed to only get part of the order right. Issue 1 - they failed to tell me that I had to call before coming to pick up my order to check if they were complete on the due date they provided. Of course my order wasn't ready so a wasted trip. Issue 2 - when I did pick up my order it was not correct. One photo was framed the wrong way and three others had too much of the border cut off. They should be clarifying these things when taking the order. I will say that they undercharged me for one frame and the woman working said that it was fine - they would not charge the higher price for the frame because of the mixup - which I appreciate. Issue 3 - they told me the corrected photos would be ready yesterday and that they would call me. No call yesterday so I called this morning. The person answering said that they had to reorder the frames I chose so the order won't be ready until later in the week. WHY DIDN'T THEY CALL ME TO TELL ME THIS????? Customer service 101!!! I have now missed 2 dates of which I was giving these photos as gifts. I definitely won't shop here again. I gave two stars because the prices are good and the job they did on the photos I did get back was good. If you want to shop here to save money make sure you are prepared to go back 3 or 4 times until your order is right. I may comment again after I get my photos back... read more

Over the past two years I have had excellent service from Soho Framing. The choices made for paintings and drawings were sensitive to the mood and physical attributes of the work and revealed hidden qualities I had not noticed myself. This inspired guidance came from one employee, whom Soho featured on their website. She is no longer there, I learned recently. It is unfortunate when a company's quality relies on rare expertise. When such a staff member leaves, it is similar to a restaurant loosing one of their top chefs. So it is at Soho Framing, alas. I wish them well in finding a replacement. Until I hear from others that high level artistic service has returned, I shall go elsewhere for my framing needs. read more
