I really love the new name and branding, it is super cute and matches the whole Japanese theme of the store. Well, not all of the stock is Japanese, but they also stock lots of cool art, jewellery, home décor and toys. This is one of my fav places to shop for gifts for my friends and family. You will find lots of quirky unique things in this store, like fake deer heads, cool mugs, quirky books and gift cards. I actually found some super cool Star Wars plates with Darth Vader with a top hat. That was a immediate purchase. You know those moments when you are shopping and you say "omg I must have!" Check out the jewellery in this store, you will find some really lovely modern styled elegant pieces. I found it very hard to choose from so many cute options. Some pieces full silver, others have beads and acrylic shapes. The staff in this store are super friendly and so happy to help you out if you are looking for something in particular. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a loyalty program which gives you discounts and invites to a special VIP party a couple of times a year. How cool is that, especially for such a little store!

The shop started about three years ago by two Canadian sisters' love of all things Mexican and so why not share the love. They're not joking when they mention 'hidden' because it's not in view off the main road, instead tucked down a laneway between Lipson Street and Commercial Road in Calton Street. I was even lucky enough to get a home baked cookie upon entry as they were having a sale on the weekend. Stocking Mexican jewellery, wall hangings, folk paintings, a unique range of greeting cards, etc. Up the stairway landing there is a wall of religious Mexican crosses in all shapes, sizes and designs. The top floor has more paintings and water colours by local artists, cards, trinkets, etc but the rustic louvre open window is what makes this loft room come to life. I can imagine it'll get quite hot up there in summer despite the insulation. Outside is a good range of ceramics, pots, rustic metal chimes, wire and metal outdoor settings, plus more and also Day of the Dead collectables. Their counter and office is actually on a bench in a working kitchen and they serve a hot ot cold drink too which is perfect to be sipped outside before a siesta.

A great colour array. The other main types of item here are homewares and fairy clothing for little girls. There are two separate corners for dress-ups, with wings and toys and tutus. A pity they don't come in larger sizes. The homewares are all bright and cheery, mostly things like pillows and ornaments and candles. This would be a great place for gift shopping. The back room is the most fun - the green umbrella, I love it! I can't help noticing the confusion about its address - it's listed online as both 2/131 and 135 Semaphore Road, and doesn't have an official website to confirm this. Google Maps says 2/131 Semaphore Road, so I'll go with that. Either way, it's between the bookstore and Furniture By the Sea. Worth a look!

The sun catchers can be a little poxy, but there are also some very pretty ones. I think my favourite thing is the jewelry. I just love the styles of it - all the metal swirls and dragons and fairies etc. They appeal to my active imagination. There are also some very cool prints of mystical creatures, which I love to look at, though can't quite see on my own wall. I was originally attracted to the big spiders for hanging on the wall, because they are kind of unusual and not so real they'd freak you out; upon closer inspection the shop is crammed full of all sorts of really wonderful odds and sods. Bangles, beads, book ends, wall hangings, candle sticks, sarongs, bags, a few baskets; all pretty much imported stuff from all over the place. Not too expensive and a great variety of things. African carvings and probably Indonesian, Indian, some Australian as well, I've been in several time and still see stuff I didn't notice the first and last time, if you get what I mean. It is a family business (as in wife and husband), so you can rely on them if you are looking for something unusual to help you out - they know their stock pretty well and since so much of it is wood they do a fair amount of polishing and keeping things fresh. I really like wood so I really enjoy having a look through this shop. Some items are quite small and then they vary in size through to really large features objects like elephants and giraffes. Its fun browsing and hard to visit without seeing something you want to take home, so be warned!
