This was a visit borne of desperation and ordinarily I wouldn't think of this place…read more We were fed up with Christmas turkey, ham, roast beef, pork & chestnut stuffing and salmon. We couldn't face another mince pie or slice of pudding either. Talk about first world problems. It was a cold New Year's Day and I wasn't even sure I'd find a place that was open. The two places I wanted to be open weren't - Soi 9 Thai & Dragon Express - so I ended up here as it was one of two Chinese take outs with lights on. Spice of India on the same almost empty street was open but if you read my review on it you'll see why I opted for Chinese. I didn't know what I wanted to eat but my wife had decided on salted chilli chicken, so when I looked at the menu it had a meal for two deal at £13.80 that included salted chilli chicken so I ordered it. The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. The food was a bit better than ok but I couldn't say it was really good so a border line three stars. And while it was ok it's certainly not on my return visit list.

We went for a kids chicken fried rice, kids chicken chow mein, Bangkok seafood (me), chips and curry sauce. We had complimentary prawn crackers and curry sauce to start and the girls loved these as they were warm, crispy and tasty. The kids dishes came out and I actually had to question whether they were kids or adults as the portion size was big!! They tucked into their meals and then mine arrived followed by chips and sauce. The food was superb, portion sizes amazing and service excellent. Definitely worth a trip to Glengormley for good, authentic, Chinese and Thai cuisine and all for £30!!!

Like a lot of buildings in Glengormley, it seems to be compulsory to let the exterior fall into a mess of disrepair. It's not very attractive to say the least. Quite charming inside though - nicely lit, and the staff all look the part. I had an awesome bowl of tom yum gai last time I was there... Surely one of the world's greatest dishes. I tend to turn into Captain Tomato Head any time I eat anything with chilli in it, and our waitress quite charmingly kept asking me if I was OK. I then had scallops for my main course, which were as scallops should be... lightly cooked and tender. My wife certainly had no complaints with her courses either. You know, I would recommend this place. They have very reasonable lunch deals on, and the food and service are faultless. Please just ignore the minging exterior.

I'd be understating it to say I had an enjoyable meal here as it was the best red vegetarian Thai…read morecurry I've had in far too long time. The balance of heat to great flavour and full taste was spot on; I could eat this meal every day. The tofu was silky soft, light and delicate and a real treat. My wife also enjoyed an equally beautifully balanced sweet & sour chicken (no batter). We both opted for coconut rice on the side, again there's a sticky sweetness to it and it has a lovely mouth feel. We chose chicken satay kebabs and vegetarian spring rolls on the side. The satay sauce too was punchy, deep flavoured and just the right amount of nam pla. Again the sweet chilli dip that accompanied the crispy hot spring rolls was ace so another great balance of heat/sweet here too. Two starters, two mains with rice and a Diet Coke between two came to £25.10. Our host patiently waited for me to fish out 10p from my pockets - it took a minute digging into the corners of coat and trouser pockets. I found 20p allowing me to wait equally patiently for my 10p change. This place is about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the main city centre with some parking outside. It's a takeaway with some street cafe style seating. We sat on a bench style table with no refinement whatsoever and it didn't matter a jot. It was comfortable and the food was exquisite for what it is - darn good Thai food adapted to meet the palate of westerners.

Open the doors and be transported to a thai paradise and prepare for a taste experience to knock your socks off. The restaurant feels like a temple where food is god. The Thai Green Curry is tremendous, the best I've had. The Chicken Satay is a perfect place to start with a delicious chunky sauce. The prawn dumplings and the spring rolls are also delicious. The Massaman Curry is very tasty too. The curries are all served in Teracotta pots. I've never been disappointed by anything I've tried here and I've tried a lot of it at this stage. The staff are always friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They do a very good Early Bird deal and are well able to cater for large groups.

I agree with the other review that this place feels like a serene temple, the decor and music truly transport you to a different calmer place. The majority of my food experiences in Ireland left me rather dissatisfied with the lack of flavor so I wasn't too sure of what to expect. I ordered the prawn salad and a side of chips, my friend ordered the prawn curry and vegetables. The food came instantly! I was surprised at how good the presentation of the food was considering how quickly they were able to get it together. My salad was delicious! I loved, loved the spicy chilly dressing so much that I soaked my chips into it and had to stop myself from licking the plate! !! The service was friendly and attentive and very quick! If you want flavor and actual spice while enjoying a pleasant atmosphere this place is a must.

The golden elephant is truly amazing for keeping up the taste in western countries and even the minced pork was super spicy definitely not white level of spicyness. The coconut rice is very sweet in my opinion so i guess it used a lot of coconut milk instead of oil but not my kind of favourite for coconut milk. The monk fish and the charcoal beef are defiitely something you should get so dont miss them. The pad thai was okay kinda bland would probably need more flavour for asian taste. The coconut soup woahh get this dont miss it please. This is healthy soup and if youre sick you should definitely order this. The crispy duck is my favourite food for the dinner. The crispyness was just super tender in my mouth. Until now i cant move on from the cryspy duck!!! This is very recommended and i would come back again in the future. Cheers!

Vegetable Massaman Curry and Tofu in Hot Sweet Chilli Sauce were delicious, as were the Vegetable Spring Rolls with Plum Sauce. As restaurant was very brightly lit and had a couple of noisy family birthday groups when we visited - wouldn't be good for a quiet, chilled, relaxed meal due to noise levels and glaring brightness - but still is a nice spot.

Well there's usually a story and so it is here. As I'm not very familiar with Chinese takeaways…read morearound Lisburn I texted an old friend for his view. I had tried the Man Lee once and was really underwhelmed and overcharged. My old friend said try the Emperor as his go to place. So we took his advice. Well we got three meals there and one meal from this Thai place. I didn't know it existed and just spotted it as we drove by it and the car radio played Excerpt from a Teenage Opera. Grocer Jack by the wonderful Keith West. We went into the Thai to order one meal and crossed the street to make the remaining food order in the Emperor Chinese. It was a lousy damp, miserable night too and I stood with my mind going 'count the days into years, 82 brings many fears' then I realised the girl on the counter at the Chinese had short changed me and I remedied that. Oh well another day dream shattered with dull reality. So I took the Thai meal - a good portion of tasty Thai prawn crackers - far better than any Chinese prawn crackers. And the Thai crackers came with a tiny pot of punchy sweet chilli sauce. A king prawn red Thai curry and coconut rice - one out of three boiled rice choices, the other two being jasmine and sticky (£6:50). It was a tough choice for a piggy like me. The rice was topped with that really adult delicious salted fried shallots. The liquid red curry portion was generous, it was very tasty but it was runny thin like a soup. The spice heat was just how I like it though. Hot enough to know you are eating it but not so hot as to make it unpleasant. I was delighted to find in it fresh cubed aubergines, butternut squash, carrots and courgettes. How refreshing but the aubergine and squash were near to disintegration by the time we got back to eat it but again I'm not too precious about this. There were six poached king prawns in the dish. So it gets a three star on the strength of this one main dish. I will be back soon enough as I really want to try the fishcakes. Oh nearly forgot there is seating inside. Benches rather than chairs - no expense spent - so a bit like a cheap and cheerful small cantina. One major disappointment for me though: no minced pork dishes available on the menu, yet a good Thai holy basil & dry red chilli pork stir fry is a fabulous dish. How awful it's like a Mc Donald's without any choice of burgers.
