Now, I see why. My mom (d'uh) my sister and I stopped by for an early dinner on a Wednesday. The place was a good amount of busy. With a constant turn over on vacant tables. Ambiance: It's a traditional restaurant, with a bar, ample indoor seating as well as a Garten for the warmer months. Food: The menu reflects a comparable rustic flare. It's, as Austrian's say "bodenständige Küche", from Wiener Schnitzel, to Apfelstrudel with a changing seasonal section. My mom had the Grillteller. It comes with three types of meats, compound butter, french fries and steamed veggies. It's a generous portion, but oh so good! My sister ordered a seasonal item, Fried Sheep's Milk Camembert with a spring-quinoa salad, a fun twist on the more traditional Fried Camembert, but the sheep's milk gave it a lighter touch with a nicely balance intensity on the cheese. I ordered the Backhendlsalat. Shallow fried, flour-eggwash-bread crumb coated chicken, on mixed spring salad. Typically finished with Kernöl, a dark oil made from roasted pumpkin seeds. Service: You're immediately greeted with a friendly hello, while you pass by the bar to the dining room. The waiting staff is friendly and quick on their feet. Despite the rush, we did not wait long for drinks or food. Everything came out together. It's solid food at reasonable prices. If you're looking for a good Gasthaus in the area, look no further.

The restaurant was closed when we stopped by around 10 p.m. on a Thurs night. I don't know why this surprised me since I thought it would be open later during the summer. We came back on Friday night and it was packed. It was a little confusing to figure out how we get seated....did we ask to be seated or just sit down when a table opened up? It seemed to be the 2nd option but is awkward when multiple groups are standing and waiting. Once we were seated (outside), I ordered the schnitzel with potatoes. As pics show, the portion is large so I couldn't eat all of it. It was good though. Service was a little odd and unfriendly but our food came out promptly. The menu had English subsections which was helpful. The overall vibe of the place was nice and I enjoyed the experience.

On our first night in town, we arrived really late so there were only bars and a McDonald's open…read more As we were walking around the town center, we looked down towards the waters edge and noticed a "little bar" with people sitting and having drinks. It was a beautiful night so we looked forward to sitting outside and having some cocktails. Drinks were very affordable (at least by Philadelphia, US standards) and service was friendly/prompt. There were even some live musicians singing a celebratory song which was a lot of fun. We talked to some of the locals and got some good tips about places to see. This was a great little spot in Villach.

Since it is allowed to smoke in here, u better make peace with that. We were just happy that on this weekday evening not many tables were already taken. The waiter/owner quickly recommended us 2 pale ales, which were of a nice and rich hopp smell, just what I needed after a beer crafting workshop Yelp event in the famous Eiswerk brewery in Munich last week. He continued to pay a lot of attention to us, but I cannot say if this would have been the case with a more crowded situation. Music was very blues oriented and a good fit to a rather low lightened odd decorated small little bar. After the second IPA, we all agreed that this is a little treasure in Villach, where according to my local colleagues it is considered a sensation if you can order sth different that the local Villacher beer. This was already my second time, and considered now as a linked event for my business trips to Villach.

Apparently during the summer there are tables on the balcony which would be amazing considering the view. Beer is served in old fashioned mugs, which is just great. Clean toilets and WiFi. There was a big group in the restaurant when we where here. It's an ideal place for groups I think.
