The food, the wine, the places we stayed, and the people we met along the way were all wonderful. From wine tasting in Tuscany, to the private tour of the winery itself, to hiking in Elba, to spontaneously going to the Montefalco festival (we were lucky that we happened to be nearby the weekend of the festival!!)... I experienced a whole new Italy I'd never seen before, new culinary styles, new wine varietals and exquisite scenery. The drivers are very nice, but this cab company plays 'games' with the rates. Last week a…read moredispatcher tried to charge me a 6% CC fee (the legal amount in NYC cannot be over 4%) and today when repeating the exact same booking, I was told that I was being charged a $10 'surcharge' for this ride and that the dispatcher last week forgot to assess this to my booking. And if you use their app, the driver sees your full name, last 4 of your CC card and address - no security features there. This is not the same with ride share services. Also, at times the drivers have dirty cars and can take up to 30 minutes to pick you up.

On a visit to Central Park in November 2009, my boyfriend and I wanted to ride in a hansom cab so we could rest our feet a while and see the park. Brent approached us a few times and we indicated that we were looking at the hansom cabs. The third time he gave a great spiel about why his tour is better and how he will give us a longer tour of more of the park. It sounded good so I said ok and we started the 30 min tour. The hansom cabs had signs on the side saying $35/half hour, so I figured the rate would be comparable. About five minutes later, Brent said he wanted us to know his rate was $80/half hour. Gulp. Lesson learned for not asking prior to getting in. I know I was really taken advantage of on the rate for this reason. What was even worse is that we only were in the pedicab for about 10 minutes. Brent's tour is really a walking tour of one small area of the park. I paid $80 for something that we could have done for free in the same amount of time. I can still imagine Brent laughing at the naive tourists that he is taking advantage of. I am posting this in hopes that someone reading it will be able to avoid having the same experience.
