Ok - the first thing to address is how hard it is to find the entrance LOL. GPS will take you to the OTHER side (aka the back). So if you can see Wag hotels from where you think the front is, it means you need to turn the car around and go over one block. I walked around for 10 mins trying to figure out how to get inside. I could HEAR basketball being played inside, but couldn't find the entrance since all the gates were closed and locked. So, there's a parking lot, once you've found the right side of the building but usually, there's a parking fee. I suggest parking on the street, to be honest. There's plenty of street parking. The inside: four courts, but it is very nice. The floors are taken care of. It does kind of smell musty though. Unfortunately, I didn't see a refill water machine, which is unfortunate, since this is a gym. There are vending machines with water ($2) and Gatorade ($3). You better hope it works! LOL or bring a TON of water. read more

Positives -They have 4 full courts -Good lighting -Restroom clean -I like the shot clock above the backboard Negatives -Not located in the best part of Oakland. Soldiertown is one of the best basketball facilities in the SF Bay Area. It is exciting and in a central location. It is home to the Oakland Soldiers team. I would have given it five stars but I deducted one star for 3 ongoing minor irritations! I will list suggestions on how to improve and make this facility even better: FIRST, NO parking despite having a parking lot which they charge 5.00 for. Not the greatest of areas, parking outside gets jammed packed too( no wonder it used to be called Jamtown...lol...just playing!). Note the restaurant supply store will tow if you are parked in their area. SECOND, they do not allow the great vendors outside to sell drinks!!! On a hot day, you are dying bc their vending drink machines are not working, but takes your money! They don't always have someone that can fix or help you either to get your money back! So Soldiertown, please allow the vendors to sell some drinks( maybe just different brands then the ones you have in the vending machines?) ! Otherwise, people are getting upset as I was working the entry table as a volunteer at this weekend's tournament and people were upset Saturday machines were broken and taking their money and they wanted their money back! I told them we have nothing to do with the machines. And some were asking if there was a snack bar so that would be good to have again, too! THIRD, wish they have more Soldier gear and an open shop esp during tournaments! They are always out of supplies- please order more! Have a website that is working( doesn't work!), so we can buy and think about how much you are losing by not having it available! So many times I want to buy at your store or website, but always not available! I give up! Please order more of the FAMILY sweatshirts, hoodies, short sleeve tees and long sleeved tees in ALL sizes for both men and women! YES, they DO have an ATM machine available in the gym! So while I was there I would remind them to make sure they pushed the exit button and go to the beginning screen! Edited to add: Met the Soldier's owner, Mark, working at the vending machine in fact lol! Idk if he read the yelp beforehand, but they were working fine that Sunday and filled! It shows good management if he did read it and implement the suggestions! All the Soldier staff from the guy who kept the place clean and constantly filling the soap dispensers ( always with a smile whatever we asked him to do- bring chairs, clean bathroom, fill soap, picked up trash constantly, etc- he was great and I personally thanked him even bc he was working so hard!) to the manager and even to the owner! They were in full force on Sunday making sure everything ran smoothly and were very friendly and great staff! Love this facility even more now and if they implement my suggestions to help their place be even better than the best they are now! The ultimate place to hold a tournament and represent! Now Soldier Town, it is one of the best indoor basketball facilities you can find in Oakland. The facility is new and clean, the staff is welcoming, the monthly membership is cheap..which is the best part $20 a month! I recently moved to the bay area and was looking for a place to ball with other adults in an open gym scenario and this place is great. I've been going for the past 3 months and we get 2 courts running at the same time. Love that its the next 5 up and not whoever has next picks up, which I hate about 24hr and LA. One thing to keep in mind is that the hours for open gym are limited but for the price and the facility its worth it. They are under new management and are working out the kinks of starting everything up. I go to open gym Tuesday/Wednesday nights from 8pm-10pm but they offer a few other days/times. Purchased a "Pick up and Open Shoot" pass for 07/27/2018 on their website which gave a time slot of 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Arrived at 1:00PM to find that the gym was closed, and that their hours were apparently 4:00PM to 9:00PM on Fridays. Attempted to call their number to verify hours, why they would sell a pass for 9:00AM to 5:00PM when they were not open, but could not reach any associates. TLDR: Website schedule/purchase options gave inaccurate information, no response when I called, had to contact my bank for a refund. read more

From a spectator's standpoint, Jamtown is a nice place. The courts are in good condition and are adequately spaced out with enough seating to watch your kid's games. Each court has a large score/clock that are easily viewed. The best thing about Jamtown though? At least on weekends, there's the food tent that serves a decent selection of hot food. Great place to practice, put up shots or play some half court games. Hard to find 5 v 5 pick-up on the regular here unless you gather 10 of your homies to come along. The space is nicely kept, shiny, and spacious. There's a big lot outside but the warehouse itself is not in the most visible location. Venue wise it is perfect, only negative is it does not draw a bigger crowd like the old dreamcourts or RSF in Berkeley. You can also reserve a court here for a modest fee. Drop in is 8 bucks and 10 pack is $60. read more

Jamtown offers tons of camps, clinics, and open gym for basketball. The coaches here are supportive yet push you and I have got so much better at basketball from practicing here. You can also use a shooting machine, shoot around, or get a private coach. I would recommend coming on weekdays for practice because most weekends, there are tournaments in the gym. read more

Visited Jamtown this weekend for an AAU tournament that my son participated in. Very cool place! Getting here was easy, right off of the freeway, and there's plenty of parking along the street and inside their lot. Wasn't too thrilled about paying for parking this weekend but everyone's gotta make money so can't be mad. There are four courts inside the facility, snack bar, and restrooms. With all four courts in use you can definitely feel the energy emanating from the players, the coaches, and all the spectators. It feels good, lol. What you want to feel during a competition. Jamtown is incredibly clean too, who wants to watch a game with trash all over? There is also plenty of space on the bleachers for all courts for everyone to enjoy their respective matches. All the workers we encountered were so friendly. Someone had left their car running in the parking lot that day and since there was no speaker system I saw the employees going up to everyone on all bleachers letting everyone know. Very nice of them. Not sure what the court rental rates are but I'm sure they're reasonable. My son picked up a shirt from them for $15, not bad. I wish they had more facilities like this in the bay. I am a sitter for a ten-year old girl. During my time hanging with this young lady, I have taken her to various practices including a soccer practice, and a couple basketball camps and leagues. This is one of the better kept gyms, but in this case I am comparing it to school gyms which don't have the proper funding to be as well managed as this place. There is plenty of space for several teams and games to go on simultaneously. There is also a snack bar and vending machines. I would say that the food is overpriced, but that's usually the case in a sports arena kind of food place. My one complaint is that there are no water fountains. I find this troubling, not only because the primary purpose of this location is to play a high impact sport that needs hydration, but also for the folks like myself, who are sitting on the sidelines and might need a sip of water every now and again. Brand new courts! Great place to hold a tournament with its four courts. Seems like the staff keep it pretty clean. But it's only the first couple weeks since opening so I hope they keep up the great work. Snack bar inside but I'm not sure if they have a full kitchen to use. But it's a nice set up for the basic drinks and snacks. Bathrooms and eating area are located on one end of the gym next to the snack bar. TVs are located at both ends of the gym so you can watch keep up with ESPN too. The ventilation in here is better than most but it still got stuffy while all four courts are going. Bad: they charged for $3 parking during a tournament. I don't think they charge for parking normally though. There is parking on the street right outside the parking lot so if you're going for an event try outside the lot first. They can also invest in thicker nets/curtains that divide the courts. It should help with all the extra whistle and buzzer noises from the other courts. read more

Like many basketball gyms the venue is fine. They have bleacher seats for people. Many people weren't masked, despite a delta variant surge at this time. So if your not vaccinated just an FYI. For the 2 Grassroots 365 tournaments we attended, they were behind schedule, either waiting on a scorekeeper or a ref. They charge $10 for parking on tournaments. $15 for entrance on adults and I believe children over 10 is $10. Street parking is free. The parking lot has debri littered everywhere. The men's restroom facility smells like a sewer, but that said slightly cleaner than an average gas station restroom. (Those standards are pretty low and most are gross). The plumbing is in need of repair as the urinals don't appear to flush on the two times we went there within a month in 2021. They seemed better run last year than this year, thus dropping the rating from 3 to 2 stars. I would rate Hardwood Palace in Roseville higher. read more

This place does not have water fountains or ice for injuries and it's a sports gym...what?!?!... This should have been a red flag. Oh well I suppose, I paid for a league through ZogSports it was located at this gym. So besides the lack a hydration the real issue was that our playoffs were suppose to be played (obviously right) but when we arrived... Opps you have been kicked-off the courts. It is getting rescheduled but our team planned for the weekend scheduled and now most our team will be gone as we also have lives! Now ZogSports claims the reservation error was on Jamtown- honestly both are getting a negative review check out my review for ZogSports. Do a favor for all the common folk and avoid leagues located that this location and sports through ZogSports. These types of places will screw over "regular people" on any given day for the good of just their company. If you do go through this gym... Just be sure to ask a lot of questions... Even questions you don't even know exist... Hard right. Yah it is- best to just avoid. :) Good Luck!! read more

I was at Jamtown for the Vision Basketball Academy MLK Tournament this past weekend. What a great place to have a basketball tournament! These are the best courts in the bay area in my opinion! The staff was attentive and made sure they did their best to make sure that the event ran smoothly. VBA hosted MLK Basketball Tournament was held here at Jam Town, the weekend of 1-17-18-2015 a very cool place with nice courts and friendly staff by the way. I got to say that VBA really pulled it off with a huge successful event with over 70 teams that participated making it one of the largest tourney's in Northern California and this is only their second year hosting it. We really loved and enjoyed working together as a team and one big happy family, the Vision Coaches, players, staff and parents made this an eventful memory win or losse for us we had fun and our kids take pride in what they do and are humble at the same time. Came here for an evening AAU tournament game. JamTown is located near the Oak Street on-ramp to the Nimitz I-880 freeway. The entrance to their parking lot is about halfway down the block. You drive into the parking lot and JamTown is located toward the back of the lot. Thankfully, there was no charge for parking that night. The outdoor BBQ stand seemed to be shutting down by the time I got there. Paid the AAU tourney admission and entered b-ball nirvana. Four full wood parquet courts with big time glass backboards. Decent amount of room for small bleachers on the sidelines. Ventilation appears to have been a concern because of the open doors and large fans in use, not to mention the huge ceiling fan in the center of the warehouse. JamTown sells t-shrts and there seemed to be a photograph concession too. At the back of the warehouse was a snack bar and a snack machine. Evidently, they'll even host your birthday party! There were also a bunch of flat screen TV's in case you need to watch a televised game while you're watching live basketball. Upstairs was a lounge for hot food being sold. The upstairs was clearly a former office to supervise the warehouse. The lounge had chairs and sofas for people who want to get away from the noise in the gym. All four courts were in use and it was an overwhelming cacophony of sight and sound. The warehouse was sized so that there were no real compromises for the basketball courts. I was excited initially to have my son's warrior birthday party here. When I paid the deposit they had nice sectional couches in the party room set up in front of the flat screens. I was excited our guest would feel at home watching the game while the kids were occupied with the trainer on the court. I had to pay an extra 50.00 for the trainer. Well that did not happen. One of the tv's was no longer working by the time the party came, they got rid of the couches by the time the party came also. We were supposed to have and entire half court for 2 hours from 4-6, only had the court an hour because a tournament ran over to 5 and another tournament was scheduled on our court at 6. The trainer did not want to run drills with the kids. I had to find him twice to come and play with the kids and even then all he did was lay down some comes and had the kids run around the cones. He played with them no more than 20 minutes out of the 2 hours we were told he would assist. The coordinator had an attitude the entire night with all the guest. They make you buy pizza from the venue they contract with at 20 a pizza. The pizza was disgusting. I would not recommend this place at all. The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because it was clean and my son and his brothers had fun shooting around. If you have a party here be ware. The staff is unorganized, lacks knowledge and decency. Don't pay the extra money for a trainer, the service was horrible and don't order the pizza read more

We signed up our 6 yr old twins for the Junior Jammers Camp this past winter break. It was our first ever organized basketball experience. My son enjoyed it, but my daughter was uncomfortable and intimidated by the much bigger boys at the start of the warm up session, then didn't want to continue. Luckily, we were introduced to the private training sessions for my daughter as a way for her to gain some basic skills and ease her into the larger group classes. We've taken a few training sessions with Sam, who has been really great with both kids. He adjusts to each child's skill level and encourages each one appropriately. He is able to keep the attention of both kids (small miracle with my son). Both kids are learning to love the game at a pace and in an environment that puts them both at ease. I'm sure Sam would be great with more experienced players as well. JamTown itself is a nice facility. It's big, open, clean, and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

I am updating my review with a new point of view. We signed my son up for their summer league and it is just about finishing up. We come to Jamtown on Mondays and Friday evening. On Mondays one of my sons practices while I wait with my other 2 sons. It is usually pretty empty. I'm able to shoot around with my kids on an open court or hang on the benches. On Friday things are definitely more packed but we are always able to get parking and a seat on the bleachers. During the weekday Jamtown is messy and the floors aren't looking so nice. Could use a good sweep around the court. The staff is mostly friendly, but a few could try to smile and interact more. Been there all summer and still don't know trainer names. They pop in out of nowhere and leave just as quickly. Although one did go around and shake parents hands once which was a nice surprise. The vending machines are usually fully stocked but can be stubborn to take bills. There is no water fountain. Once in awhile the teen at the front desk will put a pitcher of water out. Overall my son loves the experience and Jamtown is convenient. We just signed up for their fall league. Pricey, not sure if its the norm. But we'll give it a shot. read more

Always appreciate having facilities like this for kids to play basketball. They offer 4 basketball courts and an upstairs lounge area. The gym is well kept and the restrooms are kept clean. This is a biggie for me. Often times restrooms are smelly and dirty. We come here often for our son to train and use the shooting machine. Lately due to tournaments being thrown there on weekends the courts hasn't been accessible as it use to be. So call ahead of time to make sure the court and machine is available. read more

The downsides: No drinking fountains - I get that they want to sell drinks, but it's insane to have all those courts and no drinking fountains available. Bring your own water bottle! My son has found his heaven on earth! From his standpoint there is no other place that offers him the camps, friends, training staff and facilities that will prepare him for the future. From my standpoint the staff is professional, camps are affordable and the facility is clean. There are 24 hoops, 4 courts, basketball guns, d-mans, cones and a plethora of skill building equipment that suits the needs of a novice to a professional. The facility also boast a gorgeous lounge area, full-service kitchen and meeting areas. I have to say, this place is cool! I'm happy that there is a basketball facility in my city that I can call home. I'm tired of ballin outside when there isn't ample lighting at night. JamTown is a local Gym in the Jack London area I've been going for quite a while and I've always played with friendly competition and other people up there and the door lady Tessa is pretty awesome always making me and my friends feel very welcome. What an amazing venue! A state of the art facility that is run expertly. Used Jam Town for a Make-A-Wish fundraiser tournament. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly - the Owner Eric and GM Sam are amazing and even put together a team for us when we had a no-show.
