While only a very select number of schools in the area have teachers with comparable experience, those schools tend to be quite large, and it's not always guaranteed that your child will be placed with one of their most seasoned educators. At Eastgate, the environment is more personal and intentional, and we felt confident that our daughter was receiving direct support from someone who truly understands Montessori principles and how to nurture each child's growth. He was unhappy and did not want to go back. So we found ourselves touring other daycares and felt the most at ease with Global Early Learning South. Our son immediately felt comfortable with Maggie, the teachers, and his peers there. Even in his first few days, we saw in his videos that he fit right in as he was jumping around with his shaker during dance class and roaring like a lion in his yoga class. In addition to the photos and videos in Procare, Maggie texted us extra photos and videos during the first week to give us peace of mind that he was in good hands. The school provides breakfast, snack, lunch, then another snack in the afternoon. These are all healthy meals and most of the time the food is organic. As a home daycare, Maggie shared that she buys only what she would eat with her family. The kids enjoy a wide variety of engaging activities, including arts and crafts and seasonal experiences. One of our favorites was watching the children raise caterpillars and then release them as butterflies. They even host fun events like mini Olympics, where the kids get to stand on a podium to celebrate their accomplishments. In addition to their regular day, they have enrichment four times a week which is included in the tuition. A yoga instructor comes in on Mondays, a dance instructor on Tuesdays, Stretch & Grow on Wednesdays, and Tumble Bus on Thursdays (my son's favorite). The school has amazing community events, a family picnic day, a zoo day, summer movie night, and the highlight of the year is the Winter Nutcracker performance. On this night the students from South and Abra's school (Pre-K across the school, aka Global Early Learning - which we know from a family friend is also amazing. These schools are right across the street and partner with each other) all perform a series of songs and a play. It is very impressive! And food is provided as well. Our son is happy and thriving at this school. Maggie and the teachers truly care for each child and you can feel it. Each student gets a special birthday party with gifts. Communication is great since Maggie and the teachers know each kid well. The student to teacher ratio is low and the tuition is more than fair (low overhead as a home daycare). There's also a lot of little things too that just makes life easy for parents. Maggie provides muddy buddies for rainy days, sun hats for sunny days, and we even get to leave our water bottle at school which gets washed every day. We could not be happier with our experience at Global Early Learning South. If you're looking for a nurturing, engaging, and caring environment for your child, I highly recommend it. We had really high hopes for the school as Ms. Hansen, the school director, is clearly invested in…read morethe Montessori method and has been practicing for decades. The school is set in a lovely natural settings and the class sizes are small. Unfortunately, we experienced several major challenges this school year and have opted to transfer our daughter to a new school year because of them. Communication is poor. The Kirkland campus does not have a dedicated administrative assistant. All communication goes through the admin assistant at the Bellevue campus and then to the teachers at Kirkland. While there is a dedicated email address for each classroom, teachers do not check or reply to messages. And since there is no communication at pick up and drop off, there is no way to communicate with the teachers other than the two conferences throughout the school year. If an emergency arises, you will need to call the Bellevue campus and hope that someone answers the phone and is able to relay the message to the Kirkland campus. The school does not enforce its own sick policy. Students who showed up with snot streaming down their faces and persistent, barking coughs were allowed to remain in class. Our daughter missed more than six weeks of school because of this negligence. We had multiple conversations with the school director, and things would get better for a week and then return to their norm. In contrast, during our daughter's first year of preschool (at another school) she was sick once the entire year. We were not happy with some of the language our daughter picked up from the teachers. She began using the work "guys" frequently shortly after the beginning of the school year. She also learned a song with the lyrics "the little one stops to pray to heaven." Bullying on the playground was not address. There were two older boys in class who frequently put children 'in jail" and would not allow them to play on the playground (as reported by our child and several other parents). They also would not let the children play with certain toys on the playground. Bullying should never be tolerated and needs to be shut down asap. This year's class was incredibly young (many kids in diapers that could not talk, toddlers with snot streaming down their faces, etc.) and it made the school feel like a daycare. Our experience did not align with the price of tuition nor the experience we were sold. Bottom line, there are better Montessori options in the greater Kirkland area.

The curriculum is advanced and individualized to a degree you won't get in public school. The staff takes time to ensure all children are taught how to learn, learn, and (most importantly) to enjoy learning and staying curious. I won't say more about the academics, you can look up how great they are online. But I will say they don't break kids like other aggressive academic private schools, they make them love learning. My son is so motivated in kindergarten to do his schoolwork! The nutrition is top notch. They feed them "home cooked" healthy organic meals 4-6 times a day. Allergies accounted for. No cakes or sweets allowed and each child gets a classroom bday celebration. Arts are built into the curriculum: culinary arts, painting, music and dance with performances, gymnastics and you even get a speech therapist. Kids are with two teachers: English speaking and Russian speaking. This was a major deal for me in terms of importance. My kid was doing advanced math that kids in first grade are doing in prek and not on a tablet! By 5 he was reading and writing in two languages! The school is high in security and cleanliness. I know my kids are safe and I get photo updates of their time here. The school doesn't teach religion, politics, or gender stuff. That stays with the parents. I love this. It's one of the main reasons I'm here. But they are still teaching kindness, diversity and are strict on anti bullying. The school has hundreds of options for after school programs and care inclusive of science, robotics, musical instruments etc. But most importantly... I love the people. Everyone knows my kids from the daycare to the administration to the cooks to the director of the school. It feels like a warm and safe home. My kids feel comfortable and safe. They are welcomed with kindness. And I feel like they really care. The director of the school called me on the phone to tell me about my son's Iowa test and how she was concerned that someone as smart as him wasn't trying harder to take it. That level of care is so impressive to me. Hands down one of the best decisions I've made for my kids coming here. It is expensive! But very comparable to other private schools in the area. Only thing I can say is I wish the administration for the private school was as organized and on top of it as the administration for their prek and daycare. One thing to note that this private school does do school uniforms. But the policy is quite flexible. It's mainly colors and no prints / graphics or jeans. And on Fridays it's free clothes day.

The homemade meals have been a great way to introduce her to foods we might not make at home, and the staff has done a great job with providing alternative food options when needed to work around our daughter's allergies. Our daughter had a reaction at home to soy and it turned out to be an allergy to all legumes. While we were figuring this out the Discovery Center staff went above and beyond and had a list of safe foods and a list of foods she couldn't have that we would update to ensure they were avoiding all potential allergens as we figured this out. This made us feel safe sending her to school during a more uncertain time. They still go above and beyond to avoid her allergies and provide other food options. Our experience potty training our daughter before she was two years old would not have been possible without the help and support of the staff. They helped take her to the toilet often and continued to help potty train her while at school. There's a great balance of education, play, and outdoor time. We can tell she is learning a lot and we know she is having a ton of fun too. Our daughter will come home and suddenly start counting to numbers we haven't even tried to teach her or sing new songs! Our daughter is insanely shy around new people, she still is scared of some grandparents. But she is very comfortable with everyone at The Discovery Center, I couldn't imagine sending her somewhere else. The classroom and daycare size is a perfect middle ground where there are plenty of kids our daughter's age, but it still has a more intimate feel where everyone knows each other. The whole place has a great "family" vibe where all the parents will pitch in. There was a time when they were remodeling the outside play area and they asked if some parents could volunteer to help put together some structures on a Saturday. It felt like nearly every dad showed up to help get these structures built and the owners provided us all a home cooked lunch for coming together and helping out. Speaking of remodeling the outside, since we started at The Discovery Center the entire center has had so many improvements. From new play structures outside, to a new outdoor infant area, to a full remodel inside. It's been fun to see this place grow and improve over the year and a half we've been sending our daughter to school. We let them know and they immediately changed their minds about our enrollment. They said: "Either pay full price without the subsidy or we will not accept your kid". On their end, the money they receive is the same - the only issue is they had to report the paperwork and taxes related to it. School in their response claims my kids have never been part of the school: As mentioned in my original review, it is because they decided not to enroll our kids TWO WEEKS before we started. This is the whole point why we wrote the review.

We are big believers of the montessori method and Storm is the real deal when it comes to Montessori. It's clear when you walk into the classroom but also in how she communicates with the kids. 2. Small class size - we really wanted a calm environment and find that our boys thrive in it. 3. Outside time - we love that they are in a yard surrounded by flowers/trees/nature. They get to participate in planting (which they love!). Storm has a very sweet/calm dog and we were nervous about it at first because both boys weren't comfortable with dogs. Now, they love to greet any dog that passes them! The exposure got them not only comfortable but actually interested in dogs. We also love that the arrangement of the backyard really inspires imaginative play (as opposed to purely physical activities). 4. We love getting all of their "work" on a weekly basis. We get folders of art/craft projects, writing projects, etc every single week. 5. Academically, our 4 yr old is starting to read and write (and most importantly, is genuinely interested in learning). 6. I love that they have responsibilities at school (helper jobs). They get super excited about them and are learning basic life skills (like folding towels). We HIGHLY recommend it and are so very thankful to have found them!!!
