My thoughts were that he was too young for the grade but having a twin sister and she was advanced, I could not hold him back one year. My son struggled in school until I met Shannon Mulligan, owner of Marin Tutors. From the very beginning that I asked for help, Shannon took the time to provide the support that my son needed always paring him with excellent tutors that were compatible with my son's personality and their teaching techniques were always easy for my son to understand those math equations. Marin Tutors were common to see them at home, once or twice a week, every time that I came from work. From elementary school, up to his Senior year. Aidan recently graduated from San Rafael High School, Class 21, and he was accepted at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. In August, my husband Bradd, Aidan, and I drove to Las Vegas to settle him at the dorms of UNLV. It took us a few days to help him settle in his new stage in life, College. While we were helping to settle Aidan in his dorm, he expressed his excitement about his new college life, and he shared with us: "I can't believe that I am here right now, it is pretty exciting"... Also take a look at staff composition of school staff, Town staff, police and emergency staff, and the composition of the kids in the after school programs. HIRE TUTORS- apparently its a well known secret that most hire private tutors etc. and this is reflected in the scores of this area. The private tutors and learning centers may fill you in on what the real deal is in the area. Hope this helps you before your kid is set back years. Also be aware that the learning centers in local distance all have ties to the schools/staff. PENSION FIASCO - read up on the articles that explain why /how this county is luring young families here. SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS read about the election and what they did to Matt Nagle and what his platform was. The "DISCRETION" built into rules and if they are arbitrarily applied. The academics at MHS may have been good, but were rendered irrelevant by the brutal, ceaseless bullying I experienced, the scars of which haunt me to this day. I have memories of horrible things my classmates did to me while the faculty and administration stood by and did nothing. It pains me to think that my parents spent so much money for me to be treated so poorly, and even today I wonder how I made it through those years of misery and came out the other side. Today I'm 32 and have a wonderful and fulfilling life that I am extremely proud of - everything I have is not because of, but rather in spite of, my time at MHS.

What most impressed me was how close the teachers, staff and administrators got to know her, and the dedicated coaching she received in every single class. This struck me reading the narrative from each teacher in the first report cards. It was clear they knew my daughter deeply and had worked closely with her to develop her strengths and push her in the areas she needed to grow. The school community was incredibly warm and welcoming, she had many new friends within days of joining the school and felt as if she had been there for years. This was clearly intentional, MHS focuses on fostering a sense of belonging, bonding with teachers, character building and strong academics. I highly recommend MHS and can see why they have been voted 'Best Private School in Marin' for many years. It is indeed the best!

Many teachers were horrible at their job and instead of teaching would give speeches on 'growth mindset' and refuse to help while others would target specific students to get mad at and punish everyone for one kid's wrongdoings. A teacher once came to school high as hell and tried to make an explosive rocket and somehow that wasnt what fired him. School lunch is horrible and i got food poisoning numerous times. JS class Made me feel like being Jewish was nothing more than political debates and annoying packet readings. Children of staff members would get special treatment CONSTANTLY. I tried this learning center in two different ways with my middle schooler who needed math help…read more The first way was the "homework club" that they offer at my child's school. The club was convenient in that it took place after school right on campus. My child went twice per week for two weeks and then told me she did not feel like she was being helped in math. They basically gave the kids time and space and support to do their homework but not much instruction in the subject I requested (math). So we tried the private tutor route. I figured that one-on-one sessions with specific instructions as to what my child needed help with would be more productive. We did this for a couple of weeks, twice per week, and I was greatly disappointed. I received zero feedback from the tutor and the center even though I specifically requested regular feedback. I told them the specific aspects my child's teacher wanted her to work on and on the third session my daughter came home and told me she was working on Algebra (I had asked for help with math facts, fractions and decimals). So I went to the next session with my daughter and found she was indeed being taught Algebra. What the heck? I emailed the owner and told her that the specific tutor she had assigned was not a good fit. I told her how disappointed I was about not receiving feedback and about my child being taught things I had not asked for and not being taught what I had asked for. Apparently my email got "lost" because I did not hear back from the owner for about 10 days. Too little, too late. I spent several hundred dollars with TLC over a five week period and I feel that the experience was not worth the money. The only reason I did not rate one star is that my daughter's math grade did improve, but she was no closer to not hating math or feeling confident in her basic skills. I have since contacted several math teachers at the local high school and now we are working with a HS student who is finding fun ways to tutor my daughter in math. I actually saw my daughter laughing during one of her tutoring sessions. Priceless.
