Sun Spanish is comprised of friendly enjoyable small classes ( no more than 6 students) taught in a conversational base with grammar and structure added for understanding. I wanted to be able to speak from my own thoughts and have learned to be a more fluent speaker. I have been a student there for about 6 years and have moved from a beginner, through intermediate to advanced. Jacek the main teacher is supportive and non-critical of your effort, always encouraging! I have had two other teachers at times and they were both excellent. You can also take private lessons if you want to advance faster or even a combination of the two which i have done. They even have classes for children as well as adults. I have enjoyed the social nature of the group lessons and highly recommend the school and the method. now with covid 19 Sum Spanish has group and private zoom classes that are almost as fun as being there. I take both and even traveled to Barcelona and Valencia last year and was able to chat with taxi drivers, ask for help at train station and get along just fine. The system they use is very empowering and also rewarding, as I find I pick up grammar and vocab very quickly. Classes at Sun Spanish are the absolute best way to learn the language. We learn by having conversations with each other and actually using the language. Great way to learn Spanish! I have have wanted to learn how to speak Spanish for years. I started with a couple of apps (Duolingo, etc) but quickly realized that was not going to be enough. So I looked at a few different options: traditional classes (CoM), books/audio, and private lessons. All of them have pros/cons. I read reviews (thanks Yelpers!) of SunSpanish and decided to go to a free class to check it out. It has been great! The classes are conducted in small groups and are focused, almost entirely, on conversation. When I first began, I wasn't sure how mixing people with different levels of Spanish knowledge in a group class could possibly work. Surprisingly, it works very well. Maybe the best part is that it is fun. The teachers (Jacek and staff) are incredibly patient and good-natured as they help us stumble along. I can't stress enough how important highly-interactive conversation has been to my learning. As opposed to sitting in a class room listening to a teacher talk at me or listening to a recording and trying to repeat something back, conversation with other people gets my brain truly engaged and the speed at which I am learning is remarkable. read more

I thought I might take classes for 6 months tops. Two years + later l have no intention of leaving. They have wonderful conversational classes for every level, with a mix of the grammar and tenses. This is not a "drill" style set up, as in most school settings. This program has great detail to conversation (which is what we're after). In conversation they utilize verb tenses and grammar so you fully understand how to utilize what you've learned. Private lessons are detailed and flexible based on your needs and schedule. Is your schedule to hectic, don't worry they can accommodate you via Skype. For the past thirty years, my wife and I have been traveling to Puerto Vallarta for two weeks every Spring. When we first arrive, my Spanish is very rusty, having taken only one year of Spanish in high school, many years ago. But, at the end of our two weeks, my ability to speak Spanish is much improved. Of course, by the time we return to Puerto Vallarta one year later, I have to regain my atrophied Spanish language speaking abilities. These annual trips to Puerto Vallarta, and my commitment to become more fluent in Spanish, motivated me to enroll in a Spanish language course. My original degrees were in engineering, so I thought a more rigorous and structured approach to learning Spanish that focused on vocabulary and verbs/conjugations would be compatible with my learning style. After attending six months of these classes I discovered Sun Spanish and Jacek, as a result of a conversation with one of my fellow students. I decided to attend an introductory lesson that was offered free of charge. I liked Jacek and soon became comfortable with his teaching style, which was more conversational and far less structured. In fact, I have decided not to enroll in the structured Spanish class and continue my Spanish studies at Sun Spanish. I have no doubt that my ability to converse in Spanish will be vastly improved from my classes at Sun Spanish with Jacek and the other excellent instructors. Fantástico!! My daughter and I have been taking group classes with Jacek for a few months now, and we also took a few private classes, 2 on 1. I feel like we have learned so much already! There is so much to learn but conversation is key, and that's what the focus is in his class. It has really helped me to be more comfortable speaking Spanish, and I already have so much more confidence in what I am saying. I am so happy that I found Sun Spanish! I have been planning a trip to Spain, and although I have studied Spanish in high school and college, and have traveled in Mexico, I really wanted to be able to understand and speak to people outside the crowded tourist places. The classes in which I am involved attract older people who are eager to learn and share in the new experience. I have been taking classes for nearly a year now and have gained confidence and insight into the culture, language and fun of the Spanish speaking world. Alejandra, the young and lovely teacher is so patient and corrects me gently so that I remember how to speak correctly. Classes include conversation about daily events in our lives, plus a section on grammar and expressions, followed by reading aloud from a selection of books recommended for each level of class. There are also discussion groups that focus on current events and are open to all levels of understanding. The new Zoom classes are even more fun and engaging as we see each other in our homes. This has been a most enjoyable learning experience. The focus of this school is for you to be able to speak spanish. As is pointed out to us at the start of our "spanish quest" most people that have studied spanish for about 3 to five years in college end up being able to read,but not speak .At first i did'nt believe this. But, on questioning past students the answers were almost unanimous. They could'nt speak to any useful degree.I could go on and on, but without the drudgery of a full college class i am now able to speak ,and understand spanish in many situations. Doctor appointments (with a spanish speaker),order food in restaurants,do airline tickets, carpenters,caretakers,and much more. When i traveled to Cancun and,the Panama Canal, i was able to converse and function with my spanish. Now to be honest, my spanish is not perfect,but is very serviceable. I am constantly amazed at how well i can function in spanish.When i bump into previous students we usually can speak to each other in spanish.But that is the focus of this school. Not to have you speaking perfect spanish(you can if you want to),but to be able to speak.I have been attending class for several years for 1&1/2 hour,1 day a week. This has been no hardship,but a lot of fun. I'm able to talk to a lot of latino workers. You will learn grammar and do some writing. I am proud to say that learning and using the subjunctive tense has not been a problem for me because i only need to follow about 3 firm rules rather then getting hung up with the subjunctive moods. Sorry to be so long but this course is like life. You get out of it what you put into it. I have been taking classes with Sun Spanish for about 3 months. I love the way Jacek, owner as well as instructor, engages our brains. The focus on conversation is so much more effective than traditional classroom style lessons. Language is not learned effectively through the one way rote book drills we had in school. It is no substitution for actually using the language. Sun Spanish's approach focuses on using Spanish in conversation to really learn it. Over the last 2 years, I have driven past the Sun Spanish offices while driving my daughter to her high school each morning. I was intrigued that a private business existed where I might be able to refresh my Spanish speaking abilities, long dormant from my own high school days. I love my SunSpanish classes! I love them for many reasons. First of all, before I say more, I am a beginner, so I speak to you as a relatively new learner. Our classes are simply fun. Jacek, our profesor extraordinaire, has us speaking day one. We do struggle at times, or rather, we beginners do, but in our struggle, we learn. (Si, es verdad.) Grammar plays into each lesson as it bubbles up naturally with our questions, our usage in conversations and, yes, our misusage in conversations. Along with time devoted to speaking, we also have readings (short novellas) and homework assignments. The method works seamlessly to create an atmosphere conducive to learning .... and to having fun.
