Will and Imelda are super nice, friendly, and care about art. Somos frequently hosts art shows and events, which always include local artists from Salinas and surrounding cities/counties. If you are artistically inclined, SOMOS is a must visit, at least once. Will and Imelda are wonderful curators, sweet and knowledgable. The store is smallish, so their very popular gatherings can be somewhat claustrophobic, but worth it! There is always amazing local art on display, and some great music too! Their is something for everyone at SOMOS, there are no guidelines for visiting... Other than an appreciation of art! If your into urban vinyl, art, or just want to hang out with extraordinary people you have to check out SOMOS. It's for newbie collectors, artists, or hardcore enthusiasts alike. I wasn't too much into the idea when I visited this store for the first time. When I started looking around the owner, Will, took the time to give me a full rundown from past to present of a new world I knew nothing about. But now I'm hooked! Its even exciting just to walk see something new every time I visit, because they have regular art showings/ galleries every month. I now sometimes participate in custom Munny showings they have once in a while. SOMOS is a great place to have around town. I have visited other urban vinyl/KR stores and they have nothing SOMOS doesn't have or can't get. I feel no need to go anywhere else. Will, the shop owner, has gotten to know my tastes and makes recommendations to me anytime I stop in. He and Imelda are always super friendly whether I'm flying solo or bring the whole family. 5 STARS for a couple reasons. I live in San Jose and the commute to SF Kidrobot is about the same as going to Salinas. So why the five stars? Well, Will the owner is friendly and knowledgeable, unlike some of the KRSF employee's. No long lines for any of the dunny releases which i hate waiting for! And they support local artist and have a great selection of vinyl toys, shirts, and art/toy books. All my dunny purchases will be at Somos from now on, great shop/boutique!!! read more

The new location is pretty much down the street in Old Town. It has a more of Art Gallery theme to it. It's really nice. Bigger also and more spacious. Still carry the usual clothing and accessories as well as the dunnys and vinyls. Only thing like it in the 831. read more

This is one of the few cool things Salinas has to offer. I could spend hours and hours and hours in there. Always something new to see, a new idea to ponder, a new conversation to share with either Imelda or Will, a new vinyl obsession to pick up or a new way to view the medium. About a year ago I go to First Friday in old town Salinas. I walk by this place and decided to walk in thinking it was cool. As I entered I admired the art and the other artistic crafty things they had there. Then all of a sudden I am approached by a lady that I can assume was the owner. In a upset and irritated tone she begins to tell me "I know you have been stealing our ideas for T-shirts how dare you steal our art ideas. I could not even respond I was so dumbfounded. And then tell her What the hell are you talking about, I do not own a T-shirt shop nor worked in anything remotely related to this place. At that point her husband comes to us and joins her in the harassment. He goes on and says "yeah someone told me you owned a T-shirt shop and you are stealing our ideas". I was left speechless dumbfounded and to top it off embarrassed. The barrage of accusations was so bad I thought it was a joke initially. Almost in unison they tell me in front of all their customers "you need to leave" to which I responded "Yeah no problem, you guys are crazy" The way they mistakenly verbally harass me was so unprofessional. I would never return nor recommend doing business with these crazies. I am just now writing this review because I came across this business on Yelp and the memories of the crappy experience came back to me. STAY AWAY!!! read more
