I started my singing journey at Songbird Studios just before the pandemic in January 2020. I couldn't be more content that I stuck with it! Like, literally planned my Oahu vacation last week around this 45 minute lesson, folks I love how Songbird matches each student to a coach based on their musical taste and style -- and I'm so so happy I was matched with my coach, Alex! Alex is *always* so positive and encouraging in every single lesson She helped me find my vibrato, and identified the TA-driven areas of my voice that needed more attention early on. She's great at troubleshooting when I'm struggling, and has an acute ear for the little tiny finishing touches that make a big difference in your sound. I'm enjoying my lessons with Dara. I've been learning grounding and belly breathing. The centering practices she gives me seem designed to help with stage fright, which is an important goal for me. Dara has been teaching me how to use a microphone. Her pufferfish warmups are teaching me breath control. The scales we do and using the breath in singing rising and falling notes are both expanding my range and smoothness moving through chest and head voice. I'm learning to use a push of breath on higher and more difficult to reach notes. Dara exudes very positive energy, is supportive and gives valuable input on my song choices that would highlight my voice ability. She's also been encouraging about me performing in the near future and helping me prepare. read more

I have been taking lessons with Songbird for two years and am delighted to recommend them warmly. I started out over Zoom during the pandemic and now go in person. Both modes are viable options though I prefer in person because singing ultimately is such a visceral thing. In my time with Songbird, I have worked with teachers Christina Stogsdill & Blake Cline. Both are highly skilled professionals who have dedicated their careers to mastering and teaching vocal techniques. I have been impressed with how Songbird cultivates a learning culture among its staff, which helps enable a quality learning experience for me as a student. Beyond the core lessons, Songbird also offers you a range of other services, including a monthly chance to perform. Singing is vulnerable, and Christina and Blake managed to make me feel very safe. Singing can also feel less tangible than, say, playing the piano, but what's remarkable is how strong teachers can so accurately diagnose where I am stuck and then help me grow to the next level. After this experience, I have fully internalized that if I'm willing to do the work, incredible singing progress is possible. I have always loved to sing, but after some disheartening experiences with singing teachers in high school, I felt too insecure / not good enough to sing in front of other people. Seven years later (early 2022) I thought I would give it another chance after a friend recommended Songbird Studios. Thank God I did! Upon joining Songbird, I was paired with voice teacher, Masha. Masha is not only a master at teaching vocal technique, but also the warmest and most understanding vocal teacher I have ever worked with. Ready and willing to meet you where you are at. She creates an encouraging environment to explore parts of the voice that I previously thought would always be inaccessible. I have been studying for about 18 months with Masha, who is a terrific instructor. Masha quickly assessed my vocal strengths / weaknesses, and put in place a coaching program to prepare me for an audition. Her teaching style has a great balance of encouragement and challenge, and she is effective at explaining both core and advanced techniques. She also was super-resourceful as lessons moved from in-person to virtual and back; making backing tracks for practice and using Zoom to enable lessons to continue despite social distancing. read more

Meryl is my teacher, and she has been great in leading me through lots of vocal exercises to improve my range and showing me how to really bring out my singing voice. We've practiced several of my favorite songs, and Meryl is great at pointing out all the little details and nuances of a song that really give me insight into how the professionals do it. Don't recommend. If you ever need to reschedule, they bump you to a rigid Sunday group class, where you only get 10 minutes with the teacher, although you have paid for a 30-min 1:1 class. With $135 monthly subscription (two 30-min sessions), each 30 min costs $67.5 - not a cheap rate, when you simply lose 20 paid minutes. The other part is the aggressive sales going on in the trial class. Don't be flustered by that, if you feel hesitant, listen to your gut and don't cave in to signing up for a membership. Overall I don't feel being cared about - in terms of my experience, or singing goals. They just seemed fast and eager when it's time to take money, and slow and unresponsive otherwise - such as when I send an email to cancel, I didn't hear back for an entire week, until I sent another email. Their policy is you must cancel before the 15th to avoid another monthly charge. read more

I've been taking lessons with Christina for 10 months now and WOW what a great time. I originally was interested in this studio after seeing all the positive reviews and now I see why. Christina has helped me grow so much in singing. I finally started learning fundamentals that gave me a foundation and Christina is the goddess of vocal style. I've been seeing Lindy for a couple years now at the Noe Valley location, and she's the best! I was pretty shy when I first started, but her relaxed approach made the nerves melt right off of me. I always look forward to my lessons here throughout the month. The space itself is always super welcoming and inviting. If I'm ever a bit early (which I often am) I treat myself to a complimentary tea. Not only has Lindy helped me build my range and singing capabilities, but she's given me fruitful advise and warmups to use to avoid strain. If you set aside the time to practice, you will definitely notice a difference! Another cool thing about Songbird is they record all your lessons in a Dropbox file, so I actually create audio files of the most relevant warm ups Lindy and I have practiced together, and use them as a guide to practice at home. Working on my voice with Lindy here at Songbird throughout the month is definitely one of the huge highlights of being in SF for me. 10/10 would recommend for anyone trying to work on their voice and incorporate some fun into their week. read more

Songbird literally changed my life. I used to sing karaoke with all heart and no skill, because I thought that was the way to do it. I'd have a good time with friends, scratch my voice, and not want to go out again for a while. Well. Let me tell you that NOW I'm a vocal CHAMPION (in my own head). I've been taking singing lessons at Songbird since the beginning of the year--my goal is to get my voice into reasonable shape to sing in a chorus one of these days. I researched on the Web and found Songbird--so glad I did. My teacher, Elise, is great! She brings energy, enthusiasm and creativity to every lesson. The exercises we do have really helped with my vocal production, and she has been been working with me on pitch and harmony to help me realize my goal. Plus, she really makes the lessons fun--her enjoyment of singing is contagious! I go to the Songbird in Noe Valley, but they have locations around the city. When I was finally able to afford lessons I found Songbird Studios and have been taking lessons for ~3 years. I have had experiences with various teachers through events and 1:1 sessions. I have participated in larger showcases as well as group make up lessons. Songbird does a great job hosting these events. The group events/lessons are always well put together and give students a positive experience while creating a community. Every teacher I encounter creates a safe creative welcoming space. For my 1:1 lessons, I have worked most closely with Lindy Miller-Castro and Masha Campagne. Lindy - Lindy was my first teacher at Songbird Studios. I was incredibly nervous but Lindy was patient, encouraging and showed me the ropes. Lindy created a space where I felt comfortable asking questions and always felt heard. She challenged me in such a positive way and helped me grow in ways I didn't know were possible. Lindy also helped prepare me for showcases where I would sing on stage with a band. Something I never thought I would do. Lindy was my intro into this vocal world and Songbird Studios and she left quite the first impression. I will forever be grateful to Lindy as she consistently helped me grow into a better singer and person! Masha - I have been taking lessons with Masha for ~ 6 months and am incredibly happy with our sessions. Masha is thoughtful, patient, and her passion for teaching and music come through with each lesson. Each lesson feels geared towards me, what I need to improve on and what I have been doing well. I have been struggling with my higher register and I already feel and hear an improvement because of my lessons with Masha. She challenges me in a way that makes me a better singer and more confident in myself. She has been a great teacher, mentor, pianist, and person! I've been a musician for many years, but have never had any formal singing instruction. Songbird Studios and my teacher Meghan have helped me dramatically improve my breath, control, technique, and I've seen excellent results in my performances and recordings. Meghan picked out my weaknesses immediately, and gave me lots of exercises to help work on them.
