The breakfast buffet at the Cafe Melange, the restaurant integrated into the hotel Sonnenburg, was absolutely gorgeous. Even though it's the dead of winter and the City of Kühlungsborn is like a ghost town in these few weeks between the first Advent and Christmas, the buffet looks as if the hotel is packed full. Fresh salmon, prosciutto, herbed cream cheeses, baskets of bread, real French croissants buttery and flaky, eggs made to order the way you like them served with a dainty slice of bacon, mozzarella and tomato, fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals, grapefruit juice and coffee served with warm milk. To complete the luxuriousness of the meal, there was the luxuriousness of the atmosphere. Layers of satin tablecloths, lace runner, fine white porcelain, seasonal decorations, Picasso inspired paintings, antique furniture and a view of the ocean. Oh, and very attentive servers who would never over brew your tea . Expensive? Yes, but it's worth every penny. read more
