For those of us without relatives in Italy, the staff at Sorrento Flats (SF) are like family. My husband and I felt at home the moment Fabio met us in the Square. We loved the personalized cappuccinos in the morning and the daily wine tastings at night. The rooms were modern, clean, quiet, colour coded (green, orange, blue) and air conditioned. We felt very safe and secure. The wifi and water pressure never wavered. We appreciated having the mini fridge to keep water and snacks cool. Most importantly, we were touched by the kindness the staff showed toward my 84-year-old mother.
We were in Sorrento for 10 days a friend's destination wedding. We chose Sorrento Flats at the bride and groom's recommendation. They had stayed before - and would have this time except the wedding party exceeded the number of available rooms. We stayed in the blue room with the loft facing the courtyard. It's a little bit more expensive than a single level room but the extra space is worth it if you are staying more than 5 days.
Design wise, I was impressed by the chic, modern ambiance co-existing with an ancient pillar on the main floor (Luigi will tell you the story).
Breakfasts were a generous spread of granolas, fruit, juices, yogurt, baked goods, jams, sliced meats, cheeses and Italian coffee. The morning meal can be enjoyed in the common area or in your room.
A swimming pool would have been nice but guests have access to a nearby beach. We had use of a pool at a friend's hotel but we had to pay - as you do for the beach.
The best things about Sorrento Flats (in no specific order) are:
1. Location - walking distance to fabulous restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, the beach, banks, galleries and the main plaza. The entrance is on a narrow cobblestone street only accessible by pedestrians and Vespas. In other words. it is quiet at night.
2. The staff - Luigi, Fabio, Maria and Graziella and their gracious responses to our well-meaning attempts at speaking Italian. Even prior to arriving, Luigi (who speaks perfect English) promptly replied to my stream of emails about room size, amenities and rates. Once there, the staff obligingly answered all our questions about Italy, day trips to and where to eat.
3. Value for your money - The Euro was not in our favour yet the quality and service at SF surpassed our expectations.
4. Cleanliness - daily towel changes, beds made, floors swept.
Five stars for Sorrento Flats. We will be back, hopefully for the McKay's wedding anniversary in July 2018. read more
