Calamansi (think a small, sweet lime) sorbet! :)

We needed an ice cream truck for our (socially distanced) outdoor neighbourhood concert last week so we contacted Sosyal Scoops. They were very quick to respond and super easy to work with. The Sosyal Scoops ice cream truck came early to set up and our neighbours and guests enjoyed their unique flavours. I tried the (non dairy) calamansi sorbet and it was super refreshing and delicious!!! The Filipino Neapolitan ice cream cone was also a big hit!! :) Thanks to the guys at Sosyal Scoops for making our neighbourhood concert that much more fun!!! :)

Double scoop of cereal milk and ube and keso with ube. My niece had the filipino neopolitan.

On the streets since 2011, Drift is pretty much one of Edmonton's OG food trucks. They were one of…read morethe first on the scene when food trucks really started to become a "thing." The best part? After a decade they're still probably the best food truck in the city. VUE Weekly named them #1 Best Food Truck 2018 and the show Eat St. featured them in season four. Plus they've been on the Worldwide Faves list on this website this entire time. Locals know that this is the truck that you want - especially for their legendary pork belly sandwich. (If they ever took it off of the menu I think the planet might implode? It's science.) The best way to figure out where Drift is going to be on any given day is to check their website where they've got an up-to-date calendar of their whereabouts. The truck shuts down for the winter so it's always exciting when the end of April rolls around and you know that you're going to be able to start stalking them again. I went to find the truck on the seasons opening of the 124 Grand Market in Westmount, a wonderful farmers' market. Drift does sometimes sell out, so if there's something in particular that you want to eat from them, I'd recommend arriving early. (This will also help you to avoid waiting in a giant lineup.) It's always exciting when the turquoise-painted truck comes into view. These days, the menu on offer is usually pretty standard. They've got four different sandwiches - all amazing. (Although back in the day they used to sometimes do a duck confit sandwich that you don't see anymore and I'd love to see that one make a glorious return!) They've also got some sides that are very good as well. You know the drill, you approach the truck window to make your order with the friendly people inside, then wait a few minutes until they call your name and hand you a brown paper bag filled with goodness. And they do take cards as payment these days. To drink they usually have interesting local canned beverages and they're often different from one visit to the next. I spotted the Troubled Monk Ginger Ale Soda (from Red Deer) and decided to give it a try. This craft ginger ale was quite possibly the best ginger ale that I've ever tasted. The flavour was so real! You could tell that it's made with real ginger but it also had a very unique and wonderful molasses flavour that I really enjoyed. If you see this soda around you should definitely grab some! Next, I moved in on the Sides. We were going to have a true Drift feast on this day! There were four different items to choose from and I had to try the Poutine (Made with beef gravy & fresh cheese curds - $6.50) because I think that this might be something a bit new that they're doing. First of all, their hand-cut fries are already super famous and they season them with "Drift spice" which involves cumin, fennel, mustard seed and chili. (They also do their own housemade ketchup made with cardamom and ginger, which is excellent.) So the fries alone are already something special... But then they went and turned them into a poutine. This very well may be the best poutine happening in Edmonton right now. I'm super picky about poutine (as you may already know) and this one crushes it on every level. The fries are ultra crispy and golden (likely double fried) and dusted in their delicious seasoning. The cheese curds were fresh and squeaky, piled on high. And the gravy was hot and savoury. THIS is the poutine that Edmonton needs to know about. I also ordered the Broccoli Salad (Broccoli, apple, carrot, raisin & herb aioli - $4.75), because health! Loved this little salad. This is a great way to add something a bit more fresh to your Drift meal and I loved the bright combination of veggies and fruit. The broccoli was crunchy and the apple and raisin gave it a nice sweetness. You really can't go wrong with this salad and you'll feel like you ate vegetables. And then it's sandwich time. The Pork Belly Sandwich (Chili mayo, pickled carrot & daikon, fresh cilantro - $9.00) is truly of Edmonton legend and I doubt that I'll ever be able to get myself to order anything else. This sandwich is everything. I dove in immediately and reveled in the symphony of flavours. First and foremost is the pork belly that has taken on an incredible caramelized glaze which gives it a bit of a crunch. It's sliced thin and the fat is rendered down perfectly. Next, the pickled vegetables and cilantro give the sandwich a definite Vietnamese vibe, and the slight kick from the chili mayo is the perfect way to round everything out. The bun reminds me of the soft and crusty Portuguese type. It's a perfect sandwich. Incredibly delicious and consistently amazing for a whole decade, this sandwich must never, never go away. I love Drift. They're a major part of the culinary tapestry in this city and they've certainly played a huge roll in making the food truck scene everything that it is today. They've really cracked the code by offering a small handful of items on their m

The first time I tried Attila The HUNgary (I can't even write the name without smiling, so funny,…read moreso creative) was live on the air at 7am on CTV Morning Live. Levi had made their signature burger which is a portobello mushroom infused patty with strawberry sriracha jam and thai peanut butter... My eye's lit up, my mouth watered and my brain was like "WTF? This is aaaamazing!" Seriously best burger ever! Loved it! And at a time of day I'm normally not out of bed let alone munching down on a huge messy burger on live television! So after that, you could say I was hooked! After that first encounter I found the HUNgry truck parked at the Taste Of Edmonton... All week of Taste I had heard rumours about these amazing duck breast tater tots. Finally on the last day of Taste I was able to get over and try them. Yup, they are ridiculous good! If you see Attila The HUNgary out and about during food truck season make sure to grab something, you won't regret it!

My favorite item to order are the Duck Tots. Not everyone likes duck, but luckily I do! For $12 you get a large cardboard takeout container of braised duck leg, tater tots, lime, siracha, hoisin aioli, chopped peanuts and herbs. Delish! I usually try to share this with someone because I find the servings quite generous. The taters are so warm and crispy - so yummy! My friend ordered a Peacemaker burger that was made up of Hunburger patty, strawberry siracha jelly, Thai peanut butter, peanuts and brioche. Definitely a combination of ingredients that are out of the ordinary! Her burger cost $8. There are a lot of peanuts on the menu so be careful of people with peanut allergies! Also, I find you need to have a bit of an adventurous side to be open to this particular menu. Definitely worth it to try!

These franks are huge and juicy, and you can pile on as many toppings as you want. I had the regular jumbo dog, while my boyfriend opted for the jumbo chili cheese dog. The bacon and cheese dog sounded really good, but that's just asking for a heart attack! As big as they are, I was surprised that I wasn't full in the end, just like a normal hot dog. I liked that the woman working there asked me if I wanted fried onions before she piled them on my hot dog, since I have a strict aversion to onions. They had pickles, peppers, cream corn, anchovies, and raw onions for toppings. After covering my hot dog with ketchup and sweet onion mustard, I loaded pickles on top. Hey, don't knock it til you've tried it. Pickles on hot dogs taste awesome! This location is basically a food stand outside, and they have few bar-stools off to the side where you can sit. Since it's cold weather right now, you have to eat your frank quickly, since there's nowhere to duck for warmth. Cash only at this location.

We went with high hopes but ended up leaving with nothing. This event should definitely be longer than 4 hrs on only one day. This needs to be at least a weekend long event to cut down on lines and wait time. Unless some big changes are made I can't see myself going next year. I'd rather check around downtown and find some of these trucks on my own, or try out the restaurants. I would not recommend this event unless you're looking to wait hours in line. If you do go, make damn sure you're not paying for parking anywhere... Park and take the LRT or bus because you'll be a while.

I was thrilled to be able to attend. Finally. But the experience did not live up to the expectations. First, the trucks were crammed too close together, making the lines difficult to navigate. It was hard to determine which line we were even in. This also made the abundant seating that the Victoria Promenade has to offer utterly worthless, since the lines for the trucks snaked around the benches. I mean, how can one sit and enjoy a meal with dozens of people crushing in around you? Going across the street to sit on the grass wasn't helpful when a resident in the neighbouring condos called the cops on people sitting there for "destroying the landscaping". Lines were very long, but the food we had (from The Act) was extremely good. Maybe not 70 minute wait good, but very good none-the-less. A couple of trucks ran out of food by 7:30. Some of my friends were denied food after waiting in line for 45 minutes. Overall, the event seemed poorly planned, especially for something that wasn't just thrown together at the last minute. I would hope that What the Truck does come back to The Prom, but if they do, I would suggest closing down the road for the last block, having the trucks spread out and parked in the middle of the road, thus allowing for the lines to extend down the road and opening up the seating in the benches along the Promenade.

The market itself is fun, however, this spot needs way more tables and chairs, we were lucky to find a spot. Generally speaking their menu is fairly limited. Hopefully they will have a more permanent restaurant like space if they get more business. Food was excellent. Definitely worth the price that they charge. I went with the Oklahoma burger which was a double smash patty with an absolute tonne of fried onions. SO DELICIOUS. Perfect patties, lovely grilled bun and the toppings were so lovely and fresh. My husband went with a double smash patty. He enjoyed his burger as well. We went with an order of fries and an order of onion rings. Both were fresh and made to order. If you like onion rings, these are excellent. Really we could have split one order of rings and each have a burger and we would have been full. Service was friendly but a bit on the slow side.
