Other audiologists have since told me they routinely hear this complaint about Dr Terry from their patients. I found Dr Terry through Yelp and relied on 5 star reviews without reading them when making my appt and now realize they were all written during COVID shutdown (as old as 6 years ago) when maybe Dr Terry cared or unhappy patients had time to write reviews. Dr Terry needs to heed the advice of Maya Angelou - people care about the way you make them feel, not what you know. Dr Terry needs to remember patients are people with auditory problems not just $ signs who deserve basic kindness and courtesy. There's never an excuse to hang up on a patient unless there is an emergency. I called back to see if that was why Dr Terry abruptly hung up without warning (after bragging for 9 mins about her 42 years of experience) Dr Terry's rude office manager Laura blatantly clarified they both hung up because they both "don't care." Initially it felt awful to be treated so rudely by Dr Terry and Dr Terry's office manager Laura, especially as a new patient who desperately needed auditory structural diagnostic testing. Now I feel extremely grateful because their rudeness led me to Dr Alina. It was clear from my 7 min and 30 second call with Dr Alina at Hear Here, it was immediately apparent Dr Alina is a much more intelligent (academically, experientially, and emotionally), experienced, compassionate sophisticated audiologist than Dr Terry. Dr Alina was more helpful in a 7 mins and 30 second call than 9 mins with Dr Terry and a $250 visit to ENT Dr Pate (whose staff's agenda seemed to be selling me a $20k 30 min in office procedure before even performing structural diagnostic testing I came in for (because machine was broken) to know if it was even structurally needed (I felt like just a cash $ sign to both). Dr Alina's humble sophisticated understanding of how crucial structural diagnostic testing is was also apparent. I felt Dr Alina genuinely cares about making sure my structural diagnostic testing is done correctly and comprehensively. It's ironic Dr Terry tests hearing but didn't hear or listen to me and doesn't have a reputation of listening to her numerous other unhappy patients who have gone elsewhere. Conversely Dr Alina efficiently listened for 5 mins and 30 seconds without interruption so I could explain issue and articulate 2 quick questions both of which she answered concisely and kindly in 2 mins. Dr Terry 9 min brag about her credentials before she hung up was in response to me asking if she thinks she could help me with the auditory issue I was having which I didn't get a chance to articulate because she arrogantly interrupted me to brag for 9 mins about her 42 years of experience. MD Scott Greene who is rated #1 on Yelp (Dr Terry is #2) was also highly recommended by both kind courteous office manager Mary at Connect Hearing and Dr Alina who both said they get glowing reports back from patients for Dr Greene's services and bedside manner. She was professional, thorough and her easy-going and friendly manner put me at ease immediately. She performed a minimally invasive procedure with a probe in my throat which was uncomfortable, but she made it as fast, painless and efficient as possible, offering encouragement and support. I found her very thorough, and willing to listen to my symptoms and concerns and address them. Equally important, she was kind, understanding, sympathetic and personable. She asked questions and listened to my responses, seeking more information and deeper understanding. As I've started to age and accumulate more health conditions, I've seen more and more doctors and specialists, many of whom are dismissive, uncaring and even rude. Someone from TB text me to move my appointment time that was still two weeks out. I politely explained that I was going through a separation and needed to cancel and requested a refund for the deposit. Staff cancelled my appointment but did not acknowledge my request for a refund. When I followed up I was told they would not refund the deposit due to company policy but that the amount would be put on my account - which isn't helpful when you're trying to make ends meet. Again, I politely requested an exception due to my circumstances and being asked to change my appointment time meaning the spot was already filled/no longer available. I never received the courtesy of a response. I support businesses that truly care about people. This isn't it. Edit: after reviewing their policy it appears I was entitled to a refund and told that I wasn't. The platform they use (Vagaro) states you do receive a refund if cancelled prior to the 24 hour window (~2 weeks in advance and they rescheduled/cancelled my appointment) and services aren't rendered. After rapidly losing 60lbs, my cheeks and lower face completely deflated. And I felt like the skin around my mouth could flap in the wind. I had cheek and tear trough filler done at another place in December 2022. My cheeks didn't look any different but my mild under eye hollowing was swapped for some new eye bags after the plastic surgeon and owner did that round of filler... now I was not only trying to lift my lower face back into position, but also fix the new eye bag issue. Enter Vanessa. Vanessa gave me beautiful, restored cheek volume and was able to blend everything out so that I no longer look like I haven't slept in a decade. At my follow up, Zaida did some DAO Botox injections and now I FINALLY recognize myself and my self esteem has been restored. The owner is AMAZING. The level of care I've felt from her is just unheard of for clients in the aesthetics realm. I cannot recommend this place enough. During the examination, Dr. Gilroy inserted a swab into her nose. She immediately informed her that it was causing significant pain. When informed of this, Dr. Gilroy abruptly removed the swab, threw the swab and vial onto the table, and said, "If you're not going to be willing to take this test, than leave." She left this facility traumatized, in shock, and deeply distressed by the way she was treated. She has seen many specialists and healthcare providers over the years for various issues and has never experienced anything remotely like this. We have timestamps documenting when this incident occurred, and we will be filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Board of Medicine regarding her unprofessional and abusive conduct. I'm not sure if Dr. Gilroy was having a bad day or something; there is no viable excuse for treating a patient this way. Patients deserve to be treated with professionalism, dignity, and compassion, especially when they are in pain. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.
