Living with a hearing loss is a burden that can be very isolating. I have experienced this isolation in my daily life. I have needed hearing aids for more than 20 years. I lost the hearing completely, in the right ear and the hearing in the left ear continued to worsen. The hearing impairment affected every aspect of my life. At times I withdrew socially because of not being able to carry on a normal conversation, especially in a noisy environment. Enjoying music and theater became difficult.This often resulted in frustration expressed by others and within myself. Having reached a point that no further improvement was possible with the hearing aids available, I was referred to ENT Associates for an evaluation for cochlear implants. I met wit Dr. Scott Greene, M.D. during my first visit. After reviewing my history, outlining the pros and cons of cochlear implants, and answering my questions, Dr. Greene recommended a thorough evaluation by his audiologist, Dr. Nada Hanna, Au.D. This began my journey to a new life. As a health care provider myself, there are three qualities I know to be important when choosing a healthcare team, care, empathy, and trust. No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. Empathy for and understanding the dilemmas faced by the hearing impaired were important factors in building trust in those providing my care. I was immediately comfortable with both Dr. Greene and Dr. Hanna. I sensed their genuine interest in helping me correct my hearing loss. Throughout my evaluation, surgery, and visits after surgery, they have been encouraging and supportive. Both, in their respective areas of expertise, gave me back a part of my life I believed I had lost forever. In todays healthcare environment, it is frequently the case where patients feel caught up in the cogs of the healthcare delivery system. Doctors allegedly are too busy to spend the time with patients they deserve, office staff can seem detached from patient's concerns, and insurance issues can be overwhelming. I experienced none of these issues with Dr. Greene, Dr. Hanna, or the office. As a surgeon, Dr. Greene's surgical expertise and communication skills are second to none. I was having some problems with vertigo and made an appointment with Dr. Scott Greene out of the blue. It was one of the best -- if not THE best -- doc office experiences I've ever had. He's an engaging, friendly guy, and we bonded immediately. The first words out of his mouth were NOT: "So what can I help you with today?" He wanted to get to know me first. He listened attentively as I explained my symptoms, then diagnosed my positional vertigo on the spot. He presented it all with an attitude that said, "I got this, you're gonna be fine" -- but was in no way arrogant. Dr. Greene said my vertigo should clear up in a little while, and it did. That he explained the situation and told me what to expect (the occasional wobbly feeling for a few days), made me accept and dismiss the symptoms when they arose -- and probably made them dissipate more quickly. I no longer have to dread rolling over and changing sides in bed, or looking up and things starting to spin. Dr. Greene played a big part in restoring my balance. I suffered with periodic intense pain in my left ear for almost two years. I had tests and no one could find a reason. I resigned to live with it. I was recommended to Dr. Greene for another reason....constant throat clearing and coughing. He was extremely personable and asked a lot of questions...even if I had ' pain in my ear'. I was so surprised at that question since I'd given up on ever mentioning it again to a doctor. He put a scope down both my nostrils and told me that all my problems were related. I had something called LPR and he put me on medication, set up an appointment with a colleague for further tests and I am on my way to a full recovery. Dr. Greene is an extremely skilled, caring ENT...a professional who did not give up on me to find relief for my particular issues. Prior ENTs that I had seen did little to nothing to work with me to determine a treatment plan suited for my issues. Dr. Greene worked with me to establish a plan to help ease my symptoms associated with vestibular balance and vestibular migraine. By combining balance physical therapy with diet modification and a prescription change, I am virtually free of the symptoms of vertigo, dizziness and fatigue. He did not give up on me....he cares very much about you as an individual with individual needs. Dr. Greene is the ENT of choice for anyone requiring the medical services of a true professional. Dr. Greene is an incredible ENT! I went to him for a second opinion since my first ENT was unable to ascertain the cause for my chronic hoarseness and weak voice. Dr. Greene immediately noticed the problem when he looked at the images from the videostrobe. He was always very kind in the office and when he performed the surgery on my vocal cords. After the surgery, I noticed that my voice improved greatly even when I had just awoken from anesthesia. This was a problem that I had been suffering from since high school, and I was afraid that it would impact my career. He always took the time to explain things and answer any questions I asked. Having visited many dr.s in many areas( after a stroke 3 months ago), I found Dr. Greene thorough, asked quite a few questions, he obviously looked at my medical history. Listened to my concerns. Advised on options And most importantly listened. Dr. Greene was a referral. I had 2 others to choose from however he was recommended by more than one doctor, beside my primary dr. He was also recommended by a health rehab center, and a nurse at St. Anthony's. Mind you the st.Anthony's nurse was her talking to another patient. an unbiased referral ( I didn't ask that nurse). One of the most precious gifts we are given, is enjoying every sound that surrounds us. I will celebrate my 75th birthday in a few weeks. Since childhood I have been plagued with ear issues. I have had a 80% hearing loss in my left ear for more than 40 years. After my initial visit with Dr. Greene regarding another issue he noticed I was reading his lips, and inquired why. I have always been told that it was my "forever situation" from multiple ear infections as a child. Dr. Greene however was very confident he could repair this damage.
