However, if I could do it all over again, I would absolutely hire a different DJ. I was initially turned off by Phil's website, but he came so highly recommended that we decided to meet with him. He impressed us with a very polished pitch and a thoughtful, if someone cheesy powerpoint presentation. He promised us attention to detail, professionalism and an event that would reflect our tastes and hopes for the big day. We filled out a detailed questionnaire about our music tastes, what we liked and did not like and we even met with him an additional time to discuss all those special songs we wanted to have played (first dance, mother/son, father/daughter, etc.). We went over pronunciations of names of the bridal party and important announcements (grandma's birthday was same day as our wedding, as well as my parent's 30th anniversary). The day of our wedding, I was confident everything was in place. I'm not sure what list Phil brought to the wedding but it certainly wasn't ours. He was pronouncing names incorrectly, playing wrong songs at wrong times. Neglected to even mention the important events and was playing types of music that literally had my parent's friends running for the hills (many of the older patrons left early because the music he played was so loud and extremely pop/ old school rap, which we had requested he play only at the end of the night). When we met with him he said that if he didn't have a song we wanted, he'd get it for us. Our tastes tend to lean toward the indie music variety, and we had some requests like "Pink Martini" to be played during dinner. A few days before the wedding, I was burning CD's for him to add to his music collection so he could play them at our wedding. If I'm going to be illegally pirating music for my DJ, you'd think he'd at least offer us a discount! The last dance he didn't even play or announce it was the last dance of the night until I went up and asked him about it. We didn't let it ruin our night, and many people had a great time - in fact, I'm sure many people didn't notice the missteps except for those who had planned the event and those whose names he mispronounced, but I'd like to save a future bride the hassle of worrying and recommend you look elsewhere.

I will say that everything she mentioned in the upfront is true, Phil is very professional and will try and wow you with a professional, but cheesy presentation. He has a strong background and was understanding of our various requests. Phil also includes a lot of unique features, some that are too cheesy for my tastes, but some that really add to the fun and ambiance of the wedding - like an individualized entrance for each member of the wedding party, custom song mixing, etc. On the wedding day, everything was perfectly organized and properly timed. The music was great and he even stayed later for a minimal cost (last minute negotiating on our part). His booth looked professional, his lighting scheme was fun, and he was open to requests and feedback during the event. I have had no hesitations recommending Phil to anyone for their wedding. He was recommended by our photographer, and our photographer also "got us," so his referral was taken to heart. When we talked to Eric initially and we said our few key words and artists we liked, he expressed the same interest, so I knew this would be a great fit. I just felt he was easy going and ultimately wanted to do what we wanted to do, still giving some good suggestions based on our interests. The planning process was so easy with Eric and he went above and beyond with figuring out set up at our venue that wasn't as straight forward as plugging into a hotel ballroom - we had outdoor and indoor set up and everything went off without a hitch. As requested, he did a few standard announcements but essentially just played great music that appealed to all my guests from beginning to end -- all the way from toddlers to tweens to parents and grandparents. It was just a FUN TIME! I highly recommend Eric to any couple for weddings, but I also know he would do a great job for any event where good music should be played. Theron with Whilin Out entertainment was out DJ, a decision made by Pinecrest. But it worked out great! Theron reached out a couple weeks before the wedding to set up a Facetime with us, get to know our do and don't play lists, and walk us through the wedding day. Overall, it was great! We only have a very few things that we wished were different, but they did not really impact the day, and of course we will still remember it as perfect. First, during the ceremony he went to loop a song, but the next song started playing. He quickly fixed it, and it was no big deal! Did not throw the mood off at all. Secondly, the dance floor was great- but he did tend to play the entire song, even if it is long and repetitive. The example I can think of is "Stayin' Alive" by the BeeGees- great song! but also 4 and a half minutes long haha. it again did not end up being a big deal, but some people did end up sitting down until the next song came on once they had gotten through all their disco moves haha. And lastly, we are not big "group dance" people- think cha cha slide, the wobble, etc. We had a couple of these on our "do not play" list, but he told us that we can only have 2 on the no play list, and he does need to paly at least a couple to get people on the floor. We ended up doing the cha cha slide at the wedding because we would prefer that over the cupid shuffle, but honestly the dance floor was poppin the whole time and I think we could have gotten away with having no line dances. Oh well! Overall it was a great night, Theron is a true professional, has great energy, and could sense the vibes people on the dance floor had and was able to sway the energy to those on the dance floor. For example, he could sense that we were loving the pop-punk towards the end of the night. He came up to my husband and I and was like "is it okay if I just lean into this energy and keep playing pop punk?" and we said "of course!" Everyone loved it and we all had a blast.
