They slipped a few things past my insurance and I had to pay out of pocket on something that already should have been covered. I have been going to this practice for 22 years. I still really like my doctor, Dr. Bookas, but the whole place has gone down hill so much since taken over by Hartford Healthcare. They are not efficient, poorly organized, not friendly. it takes days to get anything done. Tonight, I will be going to bed without my medication for the 2nd time in 3 months because they could not get the prescription filled in 3 days! They are always pushing for the tele-visits. In June, I had to come in for some blood work. They tried to tell me I needed to get a tele-visit to then come in and get blood work. I immediately got on their mailing list for a vaccine. Well, I'm now finished with both doses but I had to go to Walgreens - never once heard from them about a vaccine being available. They are much more like a factory now. Get them in and out. Failed to follow up on requests to renew my Mother's blood pressure prescription, sent two emails stating my Mother's COVID vaccination appointment was cancelled - it was not cancelled. Failed to respond to pharmacy requests since November 2020. It is nearly February 2021. Refused to provide a prescription to ensure supply until they could find the next appointment in the coming weeks. It is unimaginable. I would strongly encourage anyone to find another medical center. Dr. Wei is not accessible and not patient oriented. They benefit purely from location. Placing the patient first is not a priority. My Mother was forced to go days without medication resulting in her having to risk walk-in clinics at age 83 to seek help during the height of COVID. I attended this doctor's office in hope of finding a primary doctor in Dr. Ortiz. Instead, I found Dr.Ortiz and this establishment unorganized and incompetent. I went in for a general check up and needed to get a TB Test for my institution. Upon reading the results of the TB test and taking an x-ray I was informed that I did not have TB. However, when I went to my pharmacy I was informed by a technician that I had been prescribed medicine for TB. I called Soundview medical to file a formal complaint seeing as I was not informed of my condition;However, I overheard Dr.Ortiz and the nurses speaking about my case flagrantly, and I was not counseled on the side effects and precautions I needed to take. I then found a pulmonary specialist at Stamford Hospital to walk me through this process. After taking blood test, having x-rays, and completing 4 months of antibiotics I was informed, yesterday, that I never had TB with the information drawn from the blood test. Just to be clear, if I had TB and it was cleared, the reminisce would still be visible in the blood test. So after all of the emotional and physical stress & fatigue, my appointment yesterday confirmed that Dr.Ortiz and Soundview Medical are unorganized, incompetent, and daft with regards to their patients and patient concerns. Edited portion: When I asked for the doctor's notes and a copy of the x-ray, the institution refused to give me the doctor's notes and the x-ray file I paid for was unable to be read on the computer. Administrative staff is a hot mess. I've called 10 times over past 8 business days to verify that they've received my medical records sent via fax. Each time I spoke to a different person and then got put on hold and rerouted to separate office staff member and given conflicting info or asked if they could call back because systems are down. The fax system is a mess and needs to be improved. I had 3 phone calls and spoke with 5 separate staff members this week to follow up a fax regarding an urgent need for my mother who has Alzheimer's. Today, I spoke with medical assistant Emily, who decided to overtalk and interrupt me SEVERAL times, even after I explained to her in a pleading voice that I know healthcare is tough and this is not her individual fault, but I just need someone to actually LISTEN to me and get this fixed today. VERY GOOD MEDICAL CENTER, DOCTORS & NURSES! I've been going to Soundview for many years. It's conveniently located in the heart of Norwalk off of many major highways. My family Dr. is Dr. Timothy Bookus who is a straight shooter and very good at keeping his patients in check. His nurse, Rosa is a doll and a pleasure to be around as well as Alex, who is new to the team but equally good. Dr. Bookus has referred me to other specialist due to medical conditions that have arised and I've used Dr. Riback (gastro) and Dr. Beger (autoimmune). They also were very good doctors and I was happy with them. Here's why they only got 4 stars instead of 5... On several occasions, when I had to contact the doctor or nurse for RX refills or to make an appointment, it was days before I heard back. Rosa and Yolanda were great at returning calls, Alex, not so much and Kim, Dr. Riback's nurse was negligent at best. I never heard back from her and that is simply unacceptable. Also, there is no leeway with the doctors policies. I recently moved from CT to FL and I was due for my annual which is the time I get all my scripts for refills. I thought I had done my annual but actually it was a sick visit...my bad. When I got to FL the pharmacy said no more refills so I asked if Dr. Bookus could please extend, once we realized I didn't do the annual like previously thought. He did allow for 1 month's worth but it wasn't enough time to get a 1st time visit with a new doctor down here. I had to wait 1 1/2 months for an appoint and called everywhere. Long story short, I went without my meds for a time which to me is unacceptable again. I did speak with Rosa (whom I love...she's a great nurse) and she asked Dr. Bookus and he said no, continue to look for a quicker visit which I couldn't get so I was SOL! I was on daily meds that should not have been missed and was really surprised that was his solution for me and he wasn't willing to make an exception. I was disappointed and maybe that deserves 3 stars but outside of that one incident (which in my opinion was a biggie) they really did a great job. My suggestion to them going forward is not to penalize a patient for bad memory. I truly thought I did my annual and I was wrong...it was a sick visit but at that point I was already in FL and couldn't get there. I think they should have allowed for an additional month to set up a new patient visit. It takes 3 months to get into see Dr. Bookus as a new patient so I'm not sure why they thought I could do it in less. Just a suggestion... I hope it helps them for future use. read more

Soundview Medical obstructs patients' ability to make an appointment. Receptions are rude and make demands that are unreasonable. For example: Refusing to schedule an appointment without a referral from a GP despite the fact that my insurance does not require one. Being in a desperate situation I accommodated the "receptionista" but she denied ever receiving the referral. After several phone calls I was able to make an appointment but not with the doctor I wanted. The doctor I wanted was highly recommended by one of his patients. But, by the time I was allowed to schedule an appointment he was unavailable. The reputation and practice of a competent physician can be sorely jeopardized by staff members who are rude and unprofessional. Soundview has established a very bad reputation I think it is time the medical staff get a wake-up call and start cleaning house. read more

It's unfortunate that I'm compelled to write t this review. I've been a patient of Dr Chi for 40 years. The most incredible DR. Ever!!!!! Knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. I've been in great health and have had no need to see him for a few years- 3 to be exact. I phoned this morning and was blown off my the first receptionist who transferred me bk to where I started because she couldn't be bothered. Called again and was told I was no longer a patient of Dr. Chi because I had ent been to see him for 3 years. I was initially told if I had not been in 5 years I would be considered a new patient- but she apparently was changing the rules as she went along. I was like sure- fine- call me whatever I like please schedule me for two weeks for today. I was then told Dr. Chi is not accepting new patients. Okay could you please schedule me with another Dr?... "No- we have female Dr's- male Dr's visit our website and call back" she was rude, condescending and totally unprofessional. I was a hair away from asking her name to complain. It was awful. She did a great job at making me feel unimportant. Basically said to me if I'm having a problem call immediate healthcare facility. This experience turned my stomach. Unpleasant, unhelpful, unprofessional. Dr Ford Cuffie was my doctor for less than a year. I saw her once, she seemed ok--I had no serious health issues at the time so how can I judge? In March of 2017, I had a severe throat abscess which was diagnosed on a Sunday by a walk in clinic and called her office on Monday to get a referral to an ENT. I was called back several hours later by an office associate who asked if I wanted to make an appointment to come in. I said again that I was in serious pain, had already been diagnosed w strep throat and needed a referral to an ENT. I was told that someone would call me back. No one did. I ended up getting a referral to an ENT from an associate at another doctors office -- not mine -- who was empathetic and helpful. In August of 2017, I received a letter stating that Dr Ford Cuffie is no longer with this practice and this reminded me that I needed to shop for a new doctor. I called the office to get my medical records and was told to go to their website and fill out a form. I did. Some time later, I received a call -- my documents are ready to be picked up. Today I went to the Darien office where clearly people don't know their ass from their elbow and they say they didn't call me and they don't have my records, they must be in the Norwalk office. Really? Because I got a phone call from the Darien Office and was NOT told to pick up my records in Norwalk. Their unprofessional, uncaring attitude beggars belief. STAY AWAY. read more

Edit: I'm revising my review after I called for an appointment yesterday. I explained my symptoms over the phone, including that I had a fever several days earlier, however no other coronavirus symptoms. I was experiencing serious symptoms that required a doctors care that couldn't be addressed over a telemedicine visit. Racing heart, numbness in my hands and feet, etc. I arrived for my appointment after I was told the doctor would squeeze me in, and told the nurse at the door that I had had a fever days earlier. I had taken a coronavirus test that was of course negative out of caution. I've been working from home with no contact with others since March, but since I was feeling ill and unsure, went to a drive through testing facility voluntarily. The test was negative. I was refused care when I told them this. Two, not one, but TWO nurses refused to allow me in for my appointment. Dr. Roesche REFUSED to see me. She was too scared I guess. Her nurse rolled her eyes at me when I begged them to see me. They told me to just go to the ER. I returned home and did a telemedicine visit through my insurer, and the doctor on the phone told me that it was likely my thyroid, I clearly didn't have COVID, and that I guess I better get to an ER if my doctor refused to see me. He was shocked by what I told him about my experience on the phone regarding my failed attempt at getting care. I spent 7 hours at the emergency room for something a blood test in the office would have told us had Dr. Roesche bothered to see me. She and her nurses should have their licenses revoked. You took an oath to do no harm and you sent a patient away. SHAME on you. And shame on both of your nurses who were rude. There are thousands of other illnesses then COVID and you need to treat the rest of your patients rather than assume that someone has it. Shame on Soundview Medical. We are checking all of our legal options and will report them for failure to provide care to the medical board. **** Just relocated to the area from out of state. Needed a PCP and was referred to this office by my specialist. I called expecting to wait weeks for a new patient appointment. They were able to get me in the same day! Dr. Roesche was lovely! She spent lots of time with me, got my history and went over any issues. She also ordered some standard diagnostic tests I can get in my own time and she will follow up when the results come in. My ONLY complaint, was that some of the receptionists were being a little nasty to their coworkers, and the check-in system is confusing. I am completely shocked and disappointed with their unprofessionalism. I have had strong symptoms of COVID-19 and right now I'm on day 7 of shown symptoms. When it started I had extreme fatigue, which led to heavy post-nasal drip down the throat, no runny nose, no sneezing, just thick postnasal that would make me cough a bit. On day 2 I felt a fullness in neck and throat which evolved into a full and forceful dry cough along with a fever which I took ibuprofen for. Day 3 the cough just worsened and I started to feel shortness of breath, chest tightness, and pain and getting winded going up and downstairs. Day 4 I went to Soundview. I was wheezing, short of breath, coughing, and unable to take a deep breath. Dr diagnosed me as URI even though I had symptoms of lower respiratory difficulties. Dr told me because I didn't have a fever I would not get a test for COVID-19. And told me if I didn't directly contact someone who traveled recently I likely would not have the virus. Meanwhile, the news has reported "community spread" in our area. Yes, I suppose there are limited tests but the Dr was not honest about that fact and simply told me to take cough med, pain med, and inhaler and sent me on my way. No recommendation to avoid social gatherings etc. I did so anyway, I canceled all plans and tried to keep a distance from other parents at school drop-offs and pick-ups throughout the week. I have had other concerns about this practice before this, but this clearly has me looking for a completely different practice. I'm giving two stars because the Dr was very nice and personable. The night after the appointment was the worst night of all. I was sitting on the couch, coughing fit, after coughing fit, and just had the feeling like I could not get any air. That my windpipes in my lungs were completely constricted and not opening, I was seriously needing air. I had taken inhaler but yet was at this level of breathing trouble only a couple of hours later. I went up to the shower and turned on the steam with the hope of it relieving the issue and opening up the airways, which it did for a bit. When I was ready to go to sleep laying down in the bed I still was struggling for air. Any position made me cough like crazy. Any relief I got was sitting up and leaning forward or completely standing up straight. this is no way to fall asleep. I wrestled with the symptoms for a good TWO HOURS until finally, things subsided enough to drift off. But I was woken up many times overnight with the breathing struggle. I have had bronchitis before and this seemed to be on another level. The next day, more coughing fits and a nap interrupted with them yet again. Coughing fits caused intense headaches over the day. I went to sleep day 5 with the same symptoms. Day 6 coughing fits over and over, the same breathing issues. Day 7, symptoms are easing just a little bit but I'm still experiencing shortness of breath and coughing and not being able to breathe in deep. Still winded walking up and down flights and around the house. I still feel like someone should test me properly. I am convinced I have this virus in my body. And I have no clue if I definitely have this virus and if I should avoid going to work this weekend. The two mildest of the symptoms: My voice is different, the whole throat lining is irritated from all the coughing and slightly sore, but it's not a seriously sore throat and doesn't hurt to talk or eat or move. I also only have had a slight fever since the second day and mostly no fever- but the issue is definitely in the lungs - lower area of lungs. read more

I am giving one star for a list of reasons but would like to give zero Sad for the few good experiences and have met two doctors I liked and had two that left that I liked So here goes 1. I never met the doctor assigned who took place of the other two I had left . This one Is always too busy so they sent me to a PA who was less than adequate especially when she (PA) and my husband talked about chest X-rays and she never helped him with arranging them (He was naive and needed a doctors help-and encouragement) Sadly,he passed from lung cancer. Not their fault but perhaps had the pa listened and talked with him things would have been different 2. This same pa didn't understand I needed a note to be out of work as my husband was dying. Insisted I needed it from husbands doctor. I practically had to type it for her. 3. Scheduler in another dept was incredulous when I went in to get prescription for a twice rescheduled procedure. Made a crack about me rescheduling and I let her know I was busy with husband who was dying 4 Finally, I went to pick up prescription for the procedure only to have wrong date on it and called dept back Thirty minutes later although promised it still wasn't there on pharmacy's system Called and promised again to be there so went next day and still not there No apology made but am assured it is coming So four trips for a prescription. I will not recommend anyone to go UPDATE I read reviews on a neighborhood site and visited a new doctor. The difference was not only in the phone calls and scheduling experienced but when I walked in to their reception area for first time. They were a welcoming as well as efficient staff. My doctor even read my lab tests while she was on a vacation week. Don't settle for mediocre or poor medical care. Maybe the owners of Soundview will wake up and work on training their staff and retaining their doctors. read more

I was a patient with Soundview for at least 5 years. I never felt like the doctors cared about me but instead, that I was just another checkbox in their very busy day. I had some lingering health issues that I could not figure out and the doctors there just bounced me around saying that they didn't find anything after one test. It was frustrating to wait months for a visit, pay a large copay for a specialist, and then for the specialist to only focus on one possible outcome or say that there was no issue since I was not having symptoms that day (that really happened!) I switched to another doctor in town (Western CT Medical Group), and within my first 2 visits, my primary care doctor and a specialist had listened to me enough to figure out what was going on and diagnose me. Overall, I was very disappointed with Soundview. Their facilities are very nice but it seems like they are too busy for patients. read more

I had heard very good things about Soundview from friends and family, and since it was close to work, I thought I would give it a try. My condition wasn't an emergency, but I was in pain and needed urgent care. Upon walking in, it was very confusing - there is a round table and people don't really stand in line. I filled out paperwork and waited 45 minutes over my appointment time (I had scheduled an appointment that morning). Then I was escorted into the backroom where I took some tests with the nurse, and then proceeded to wait for one more hour for the doctor to see me. I saw the Doctor, and he told me that all the tests were negative and there wasn't anything he could do for me. I was very disappointed that after waiting for 1 hour and 45 minutes over my appointment time, he refused to treat me. I was on my lunch break - so I used valuable time to see the doctor. The next day, I was in so much pain, I visited Stamford hospital. They diagnosed me with the exact opposite (and positive) results from the same tests and I was put on a very long treatment of antibiotics. Basically: I waited forever, was refused treatment, had to see someone else the next day, and caused damage to my body. Then I had to pay to be seen twice in two days. To top it off, I paid the money I owed them (even though there were no real services provided) and they harassed me consistently for payment when I had already paid. I feel they should've paid me for the work time I wasted two days in a row. I will NEVER go to Soundview ever again. read more

I already reviewed this place but the awfulness continues. Stopped in for a strep test (walk in).Double checked my scheduled physical appt for later in fall. Told the doctor had left sand they suggested a few other names. Had I not walked in, I wouldn't have been told!!!! I know this is true because a colleague just told me same story and she was there a month later...no notice that the doctor left. Does Soundview understand that many insured professionals are required to get physicals each year and that they are hard to schedule with busy doctors? If I could give the administration of Soundview and Hartford Healthcare a negative 1,000 here, I would. It's not the doctors, who have never let me down. Here's the latest example - one of many frustrations over the years. Two days ago, I was diagnosed with covid. As an older, immuno-compromised patient, this was concerning. My children immediately alerted me that I was eligible for paxlovid, which received emergency use authorization this month and greatly reduces the chance of a hospitalization for patients with my underlying condition. When I called Soundview, I wasn't allowed to speak with my doctor or his nursing team. Rather I was told, the doctor will call you back sometime and if he decides you're eligible, it will require three business days to receive an authorization, and after that they'd call in a script. The thing about paxlovid is for best results you should start it the same day or the next day as your first positive test, and it's totally useless if started after more than five days. Here Soundview was telling me in a best case scenario, maybe I'd get a script in about five days. I perceive that as negligent, not by any doctor, but by the administration. I got upset when told this, and was told "Don't take it out on me, I'm trying to help you." And I don't blame that person one bit, or any other staff person at the facility. It must be awful to have to repeatedly explain to your patients that your medical group's incompetence is just the way they do business. On the other hand, anyone a SVP title or above at Hartford Healthcare, this is directed at you. Fortunately, this particular episode ends well. My kids called a local urgent care clinic, PhysicianOne, and I was able to obtain paxlovid from them within three hours. Soundview's administration desperately needs to conduct a months-long "patient journey mapping" exercise, so they can appreciate the length and breadth of their poor administration and do something about it. Again, the doctors at Soundview are solid, caring, and dedicated professionals. The administration they work under either doesn't care about clinical quality or doesn't know how to implement it. Hartford Healthcare would benefit from recognizing that while profit is usually an outcome of high quality, the converse is simply not true. I didn't write this to insult Soundview Medical or Hartford Healthcare, but rather to encourage them to address the gaping holes in their game. For them to offer services at a level far below a local urgent care center that didn't know me should be more than a little embarrassing. Thank you for considering these ideas. read more

I have been a patient at Soundview Medical for years. I used to love it there. Everyone was friendly and helpful and things happened in a timely manner. Unfortunately, things have changed there and not for the better. There is a lack of communication between doctors, nurses and the front desk. Not to mention, there are always issues with their phone system and their online patient portal. A lot of these issues seem to have become more evident as they became part of Hartford Healthcare. The lack of communication combined with a terrible Dr. there, landed me in the ER a few weeks ago. I will leave a separate review regarding the Dr who was supposed to be taking care of me. read more

Incompetent office staff and practice manager. I have a client who is a long time patient of this practice, she is medically compromised. At today's appointment I was refused entry because I was carrying her 4 lb emotional support dog. Patient has a walker and suffers from dementia, and always has the dog at appointments. Client was permitted to enter and I was barred. I'm her care manager and must be present. I was never told her dog couldn't come, and has for 2 years. It was a degrading experience and manager was condescending and rude. Pulled the client out and left. Poorly trained and rude staff. Will be filing a formal complaint with Hartford Hospital. My brother passed away a month ago due Venous Intestinal Thrombosis and I was urged to check myself by doctor's recommendation. I do not have health insurance and am currently unemployed due Covid situation. I own a small business which has not been in function for the past 5 months, I am not eligible for any PPP or SBA loan since I am sole owner. So, I decided to call Sound view and talk to one of the people at customer service who provided an estimated amount for the physical test, she said around $400 but then, she offered to assist me due my personal situation with some financial aid program and told me I needed to pay $160 only. They gave me the appointment for next day at 3 PM. I went and the person on desk told me I was not on schedule and that blood work is only in the mornings, so they made me do fasting for nothing. Then, they told me to go the next day, blood was taking and told me the bill was being sent to my place. 5 days after I got my bill for over $1,000 to pay in the next 10 days. It is ridiculous and totally unprofessional! I explained my situation before I asked for the service...now, I go to talk to the person at desk and said I did not ask. Do you really think I would've asked for a service I can not pay....I know I am on a very tight budget.. and you people took advantage of the situation for charging even for the paper. PEOPLE PLS DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! read more

You will never get a live person on the phone. When you leave a message it takes a whole day for them to call you back. If you miss the call, you call again leave a message and now you are on day 2. They want you to use the Portal which also takes 24 hours for the staff to answer your request and that is if the Portal software accepts your message. I get many email undeliverables. When you go to the office it is so odd that you don't hear any phones ringing. This office is so unprofessional. read more

Dr Bande is never available. My mother literally suffered a stroke during the time we were BEGGING to bring her in to see her. They also missed a pneumonia diagnosis that was luckily caught by our in home nurse. We have seen enough doctor's to know the good from the bad - and we are EXTREMELY underwhelmed with her care there. I think medical is frustrating overall - Soundview's Dr. Bande takes things to the next level. read more

Horrible , horrible experience. Yes that's two horribles. Make you wait forever with zero explanations or apologies. What's the point of an appointment if you have to sit and wait for 45 minutes past your appointment time. Do yourself a favor and find something better. It might sound attractive because of plethora of doctors available but there are tons of places more professional and less apathetic. Zero stars. read more

They are horrible. You can not speak to anyone live. You leave messages and never get a return call. You are waiting for lab results, that are available, but the doctor never calls. I waited for a prescription refill to be sent to the pharmacy- 3 weeks. Now they are using Covid as an excuse. The entire business world can run properly, but not Soundview. read more

My husband has been a Soundview patient for nearly 20 years. He's been trying to make an appointment for a physical with his doctor since last spring. He was told to call back at the top of the year to make an appointment, that all their physicals are scheduled in Q1. Upon reaching out this week to make an appointment for a physical as he was instructed to do he was told he couldn't get an appointment until August. I left this practice about 3 years ago, and now my husband is following me. What kind of health care is this? read more

I also wish I could give negative stars. Soundview is the worse practice I have ever seen. My family have been patients of a doctor there for years. I am being told that we cannot make an appointment for this doctor or any other doctor for another 14 months. It took 6 calls over 2 days to speak to a person. They don't return voice mails. When you get to speak to someone, it is a receptionist. The nurses are unavailable to talk to. I am sure all of their patients are being subject to this disgusting treatment. 2 words to describe Soundview Medical - Understaffed, Incompetent 2 words to describe how they treat their patients - Tough Luck! read more

I really dislike saying negative things about medical offices but I think it is necessary but for no other reason than to encourage this office to reconsider how it runs its practice. We called for an appointment because my husband who has various medical conditions had a fever and needed to be seen. We were told no appointments were available but that he could come in during walk-in hours which we did. They were kind enough to offer an appointment that had recently become available. However, after filling out various pages of medical history forms we were told that since my husband was new to the practice, that he needed to come back another day. My husband insisted on being seen and the doctor agreed to see him. We then went to a different area to wait and was again told to fill out a new set of health questionnaires. To make a long story short, the doctor was very nice but not at all thorough. In the defense of this Soundview Doctor, it was late but it was quickly apparent that neither of the two medical histories were reviewed. Earlier a nurse asked my husband some questions and entered the answers into a computer but it seems that these notes were neglected as well. I wanted the physician to see the urgency of this case and I listed quite bluntly, my various concerns with my husband's symptoms. The doctor was not an alarmist which is a good thing, but was not as concerned as he should have been either. The doctor said he would run some blood tests and that he would be in touch. At the very least we expected that a nurse, nurse practitioner or a physician's assistant would call with the results and recommendations. After one day went by, my husband tried to retrieve the results from their portal but was unsuccessful. Finally, my husband being a physician ran his own blood tests and found various things not to be within normal limits and some tests were quite out of the normal range. My feeling is that given my husband's complaints, a glucose, hemoglobin, EKG and urinalysis test as well as a thorough physical exam were the least that should have been done at this visit. There was a time when physicians went to great lengths to care for their colleagues. There was no reason for this physician to ask me, but this doctor did not realize that I had worked as a medical malpractice attorney which makes me wonder whether this piece of information would have helped us. I know that between insurance companies poor payments to doctors and overly litigious attorneys that practicing medicine is difficult. However, there is no excuse for failing to do basic testing that would ensure a patient's health is stable before they walk out the door. Moreover, not following up is equally as bad if not worse, thus the negative review. read more
