My first birth was in hospital, traumatic experience. I knew for my second I wanted a home birth. I search near my area for a midwife and came across this company. Laura & Tasha (at the time. Tasha no longer works here) my second child was with southbay. They helped me with conception, analyze labs, monitored pregnancy and delivered our healthy boy. Such a wonderful experience. My only complaint, was how much LAURA would complain about personal matters during my visits. Tasha would have to wheel her back in. I reach out a 2nd time. I spoke to LAURA over text. Shared my devastating news of a miscarriage. She was kind enough to text back. She was however very vague on what to expect, or do with a miscarriage. Understandably, I wasn't in her care. I mentioned that we would like to try for baby #4 and asked what I should do and how long to wait. I also mentioned I no longer live in the area but are willing to make the drive to receive her services. She recommended I get labs immediately and said she would analyze them. When I emailed her my labs, she never responded. So resorted to texting her to confirmed she received my labs. THIS IS WHERE SHE GETS RUDE (I will include screenshots of our conversation) she replied to my message by saying "she is sick. She needs space." I thanked her, wished her well and waited. Meanwhile I went on her IG and checked emails to see if she shared news of her illness and perhaps I missed it. Nothing was there. 10 DAYS LATER I reached out over text to ask her if she would still be interested in working with us or if we should find someone new? She proceeded to tell me not to text her on her cell and wondered if our distance would be ok. I reminded her that we would be interested in working with her no matter the distance. She then proceded to tell me she has pneumonia, still healing and that she's not analyzing labs for free. Mind you, I know these things aren't free. free was not an expectation! I've worked with them in the past. Her sudden personality shift could be due to her illness but communication is still necessary. How I am to know she is sick and then get upset for not knowing. End result... she declined her services to us for asking her to communicate. We personally own a business, there has been times when we were out of commission and could not attend to daily responsibilities. Many times we would post on social media or send out emails to inform folks weren't able to answer them in a timely manner. We would never assume our clients knew what was going on with us personally.

I found Laura when I was roughly 17w pregnant looking into midwifery care options in the South Bay. My interview at SBB felt so much more personal than the care I received from my OB up to that point, so the choice to go into care with Laura felt like an obvious one. Every prenatal and postpartum appointment was the highlight of my week rather than cause for anxiety and dread (as it was with my previous provider). Her accessibility, professional experience, and trust in the birth process left me feeling at ease leading up to (and during!) the birth of my sweet baby boy. Fast forward to about 3.5 months postpartum, I couldn't be more grateful for the support she provided during my pregnancy, birth, and initial postpartum period. SBB is 100% the right choice if you're looking for the best midwifery care in LA!

Tasha and Laura are an absolutely amazing duo for home birth!! They are always available and always have something to recommend for a pregnancy related discomfort. I have learned so much about pregnancy and my own body thanks to them and it is truly an amazing feeling. My first birth was un medicated in a hospital. I felt I had a traumatizing delivery and had a very hard recovery postpartum. My second baby was with Laura and Tasha, only 14 months after my first baby, and I felt amazing immediately after giving birth and postpartum. I feel my recovery has gone so well because of the preparation Tasha and Laura had given me. If you are looking for a midwife to delivery your baby at home (or in a birthing center) I would 110% recommend them. Looking forward to seeing them again with baby number 3

Although I had a great Obgyn & good experience delivering my first born at a hospital, I wish I switched to South Bay Birth a lot sooner. The prenatal, birth & post natal care were extraordinary. I was on the 3rd trimester of my second pregnancy when I decided I wanted a midwife & a water birth. More than a water birth, I simply did not want to go to a hospital (even though this was pre Covid-19). From the moment we met Tasha we were impressed by her knowledge, professionalism & genuine care, which made convincing my husband to go along with my plan a little easier. ;) The transition to home visits was extremely convenient & made even better & special that Tasha & Beth were so patient & loving that our curious toddler could join in & hear her little brother's heart beat. Our due date was early January, but baby decided to come 2 weeks earlier. We were settling into a new home & not ready. But Tasha & Beth were ready & by my side. They never once rushed, pressured or doubted me as the mother, or the process. They went above & beyond every step of the way to provide the BEST CARE for mom, baby & even the support system, as they know they all matter. Their work continues even after the delivery, they follow up, they check on you and will provide a care that I assure you no hospital or Obgyn ever will. I'll forever be thankful to Tasha & Beth for their services, their love & support. I hope every woman can get the same care I received by South Bay Birth.

Lol right after delivery ‍ as you can see I'm smiling

1st thing they accept medical Man where do I begin..... Covid hit and I was pregnant ok no problem but by the end it was becoming a reality that all my fears of the hospital would come true. I sat and prayed and had a friend refer me to Laura and Tasha mind you I was exactly 36weeks when I found them. They must've felt the spirit because I got a call back and they were willing to help me deliver!! in my mind I had envisioned an AA midwife but that didn't matter when I met these beautiful ladies!! They took care of me, helped me raise my super low levels the drs didn't care or even noticed about and were the best advocates I could have ever asked for! I told them my expectations for delivery and they delivered lol no pun intended!! I love these ladies with all my heart they helped me bring my baby girl into this world MY WAY!! Most importantly they kept me alive which was my biggest fear!! If I ever Big If lol if I ever do it again I won't even consider anyone else these are my gals for life!! I trust them with my life and little one!! I wish I could really put into words how much I appreciate them these ladies are light worker's and I could not have been more blessed to have worked with them!!

Tasha is very knowledgeable and very patient birth doula. I highly recommend her. Not only Tasha has been with us thru the entire labor but also provided postpartum support and saved my breastfeeding. I look forward to having Tasha as my birth doula with my second baby !

I had my first birth in a traditional hospital setting with an epidural and WITHOUT a doula. It was a bad experience, from beginning to end to say the least, so I knew for my second birth I wanted a Doula to be by my side to offset the impersonal treatment and environment at the hospital. I found Tasha on yelp and interviewed her along with a couple other Doulas. Once I experienced the immensely personal and detailed care that Tasha provides, I decided to go in the complete opposite direction from my first birth. I proceeded to hire Tasha to be my midwife for a home water birth instead of just my Doula. Nothing compares to having the intimate and personal service of her expertise in your home, without time constraints, without formalities or commutes. With every appointment, she was able to guide me toward growing a healthy baby. I received a plethora of information beyond that of doctor given care. Not only did Tasha provide me with amazing prenatal care, she and her associate midwife were my heroines on the actual day our baby girl arrived. On the day I went into labor (9 hours total), she came immediately upon notifying her of my first contraction. While the pain of going it old school was excruciating to put it lightly, Tasha created the nurturing environment that was not present in my hospital birth. Somehow I got through to the end. Tasha was able to give me confidence through every phase, by telling me that it was moving along and by helping me move physically into different positions to help offset the pain as much as possible. Tasha's expertise really shined through in the pushing phase and in the minutes that my baby finally descended out. She had trouble taking her first breaths, and Tasha immediately breathed for her (infant cpr) leaving the umbilical chord in tact and us connected until she came to and didn't need it anymore. My daughter was what they call a mermaid baby (when your water never breaks). I had a strong sac and a very big and healthy baby, and I know this was a direct result of Tasha's guidance throughout my pregnancy. After all of that, you would think her job was over, but her goodness keeps coming. Her postnatal care was something not at all given in the hospital, and it made such a difference in my overall postpartum well being. I felt so incredibly cared for, acknowledged, encouraged, and valued as a human being after such a powerful and humbling experience. These feelings played a huge part in helping me bond with my second daughter in ways that I was unable to do so with my first. The comprehensive experience of pregnancy, labor and recovery that I was able to have because of Tasha is priceless. I'm still feeling the highs of being able to feel so close and connected to my baby, and I know my baby feels the same, because she is incredibly calm and happy and easygoing. To have these feelings instead of feeling sad and numb towards her as I did with my first child is mind blowing. If I have a third baby, I hope that Tasha doesn't get too popular that there would be a possibility that she wouldn't be able to be my Doula or Midwife again.

Blood tests, check-ups, and even listening to my baby's heartbeat all happened right on my couch. But the convenience was just the beginning. Katie's care was exceptional in every way a family hopes for when choosing a midwife. She brought a depth of knowledge and clinical skill that made me feel safe and confident from day one -- monitoring both my health and my baby's with precision and explaining everything clearly so I always understood my options. She balanced that expertise with a calm, grounded presence that instantly put me at ease. She answered my million questions with a calm smile (hey, it's my first time!), so when it came time to give birth, I felt informed, supported, and ready. From her gentle hands and confident decision-making to her unwavering emotional support, Katie embodied the perfect mix of professionalism and heart. In week 35, my blood pressure became too high for a home birth, and Katie guided and supported me in the process of reconnecting with my OB's office seamlessly. I experienced a level of continuity of care between homebirth and hospital that I wish every woman could have! After my son was born, Katie went above and beyond to visit us at the hospital as well as follow up visits at home. I cannot recommend her enough. If you're on the fence, choose Katie!

I also chose the at-home prenatal appointments, and they were worth every penny. She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely cares about her patients as people. The prenatal care was amazing. Thanks to her thoroughness, I discovered I had some deficiencies that my OB-GYN had never tested for. She was always available for questions or concerns, incredibly responsive, and flexible whenever I needed her. But honestly, where Tasha truly shines is during birth and postpartum care. My baby decided to arrive three weeks early at 3:00 a.m. We texted Tasha, and she called us immediately to help determine if I was really in labor. By 10:00 a.m. I was in active labor, and she was already at our house filling the birth pool. The entire birth team followed my lead and created exactly the environment I needed. They only spoke when I needed reassurance or when something important needed to happen. They made sure I stayed hydrated, encouraged, and strong throughout labor. They could even tell what stage I was in just by the sounds I was making. By the time I asked Tasha to check me, I was already 9.5 cm and ready to push. By 3:30 p.m. I was holding my baby. He had the cord wrapped around his neck, but Tasha remained completely calm. She quickly and confidently unwrapped it and placed him in my arms. It was one of the most magical moments of my life. After the birth, while delivering the placenta, I experienced a hemorrhage. Tasha immediately recognized what was happening, administered medication, and monitored me closely. I didn't even realize how serious it was until I told people about it later because she handled everything with such confidence and composure. She kept me safe without ever making me feel afraid. She stayed for hours afterward, helping my baby latch, making sure I was comfortable in bed, and ensuring we were both doing well. She even came back the very next day to check on both of us. Then, on day three, I wasn't producing enough milk and I was completely overwhelmed. Tasha came over, checked on my baby, and helped me emotionally process everything. She even drove all the way to Los Angeles to pick up a bilirubin light for my baby's jaundice and donor milk because I wasn't ready to use formula yet. She truly saved me during those incredibly tender and emotional early days. She went above and beyond by bringing me a quality breast pump, helping me find more donor milk, and checking on us far more than she ever had to. She made me feel safe, and more importantly, she made me feel like my baby was safe. That peace of mind is priceless. Without her, I'm certain I would have ended up in the hospital multiple times over minor issues simply because I was scared and didn't know what to do. Instead, I always had someone I trusted to guide us with knowledge, compassion, and confidence. Even now, I still text Tasha with questions, and she is such an incredible resource. I honestly wish she could be my doctor for every health issue in life. I feel so lucky that our paths crossed. Tasha is an extraordinary midwife and an even more extraordinary human being. If you're fortunate enough to live in the area she serves, don't hesitate to hire her. It will be one of the best decisions you make for yourself and your baby.

She is incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate. From the very beginning, I felt genuinely cared for-- something I hadn't experienced prior to transferring my care. Prenatal visits with Tasha were never rushed. We would often spend over an hour together because I always had questions, and she always had thoughtful, thorough answers. She approached everything holistically and helped me navigate a few bumps in my pregnancy naturally and confidently. I always trusted that she would help me figure anything out. My labor started slowly, with contractions coming and going for a couple of days before things intensified. By Thursday, I had gone an entire night without sleep, dealing with painful and unpredictable contractions. Tasha came early that morning to check on me and guided me through next steps. When things progressed, she returned and calmly began preparing for the birth. At around 10am, I was half way dilated and 80% effaced. She helped guide positioning changes when baby needed to shift, and throughout everything, she remained calm, grounded, and reassuring. Labor was the most intense, overwhelming experience I've ever gone through--I was exhausted, in extreme pain, and at times felt completely consumed by it. But Tasha's presence never wavered. Even when I felt like I couldn't handle it, she reminded me that my body was doing exactly what it needed to do. I had planned for a natural home water birth, and while I was extremely determined, I also trusted that if anything truly required medical intervention, Tasha would guide me to make the right call. Throughout labor, she continued to monitor the baby and reassured me that everything was progressing safely. When it came time to push, I followed my body's lead through the contractions. With one final, deep push, my son's head was born, followed shortly by the rest of his body. My husband was able to catch him and place him directly onto my chest--an unforgettable moment. After the birth, Tasha stayed for hours, helping me recover, supporting breastfeeding, and making sure both baby and I were doing well. She also supported me through postpartum anxiety at our visits, talking me through my fears and reminding me to take care of myself, too. I am so grateful I had Tasha guiding me through my pregnancy and birth. I felt safe, supported, and deeply cared for every step of the way. I would not change a single part of my care with her, and I cannot recommend Tasha enough to anyone looking for a midwife who is both deeply skilled and genuinely compassionate.

I took Lia's childbirth class during my first pregnancy in 2023. I live in South Orange County, so…read morethe drive was a bit of a commitment, but it was absolutely worth it. Being in class with other expectant couples created such a supportive environment, and the course was incredibly comprehensive. It gave me the knowledge and confidence to navigate a hospital birth and make informed decisions about the many interventions that are commonly offered. At 38 weeks, my water broke unexpectedly while I was riding a stationary bike. I immediately reached out to Lia for guidance. Since I wasn't experiencing a fever or any signs of infection, she explained that I had options: I could either go to the hospital right away or stay home and wait for labor to begin naturally. She also educated me about the fact that the body continues producing amniotic fluid and that, in some cases, a small rupture in the membranes may even reseal. Knowing that going to the hospital before labor started would likely lead to an induction (which wasn't aligned with my goal of having an unmedicated birth) I chose to stay home and monitor myself. The night before my 39-week OB appointment, I was feeling anxious. I knew that if my provider confirmed my water had broken before labor had started, induction would almost certainly be recommended. I reached out to Lia again, and she suggested trying the Miles Circuit. I followed the stretches that evening, and to my surprise, I went into early labor around 1:00 a.m. Whether it was the Miles Circuit, my body simply being ready, or a combination of both, it gave me the confidence to keep trusting the process. In January 2024, I welcomed a healthy baby girl through the unmedicated birth I had hoped for. While my hospital experience was unfortunately traumatic, the education Lia provided made all the difference. There were many moments when my husband, my doula, and I had to advocate for my birth preferences, and it wasn't always met with respect. Without the knowledge and confidence I gained from Lia's class, I truly believe my birth could have unfolded very differently. I'm now pregnant with my second baby, and one of the first things I did was sign up to retake Lia's class. One of the biggest perks is that once you've taken her course, you can retake it as many times as you'd like for free. Childbirth education isn't something you only benefit from once, and I love having the opportunity to refresh everything I've learned before welcoming another baby. I'm incredibly grateful for everything Lia taught us. Her class empowered me to make informed decisions, advocate for myself, and approach birth with confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend her course to any expecting parents, especially those hoping for an evidence-based, physiologic birth. Even if you have to drive a little farther to attend like I did, it's worth every mile.

First off, it can be hard to find time to take a birth class, and Lia chooses convenient times, with multiple options to choose from. It's a very comfortable classroom atmosphere where I felt good to ask any question, or add any comment. Lia keeps it fun and interesting, and is a great teacher. Lia is also available outside of class for questions, and she is super responsive. It shouldn't really matter if a doula has been pregnant herself.... But it was really helpful to hear about her first hand experiences and to know that she has gone through it all before. I just wish we in lived in LA so that we could have Lia as our Doula.

We truly cannot imagine having gone through that journey without her by our side. She's not only deeply compassionate and intuitive, but also incredibly cool, down-to-earth, and genuinely funny -- which, as it turns out, is an absolute superpower in the final stretch of pregnancy and labor! What truly set Mikki apart was how completely attuned she was to my hopes for my birth. She really spent the time to get to know us and educate us leading up to birth and spending that time with her truly helped us bond. When things didn't go according to plan (as they rarely do), she was there -- Mikki met every twist with compassion, clarity, and unwavering support. She gently walked me through options, explained everything in a way that helped me feel informed, and held space for every emotion I had along the way. I'm someone who craves details and understanding, and while my medical team was great, you just don't receive that level of step-by-step guidance/understanding without someone like Mikki, who's incredibly knowledgeable and can translate the medical whirlwind into something more digestible. Because of her, my wife and I were able to face the unexpected with strength and confidence, and we now look back on my birth experience with warmth and joy. We also have a few photos and videos that she was able to capture that we will treasure forever. I honestly don't know how anyone navigates a hospital birth without a doula like Mikki. She didn't just support us -- she empowered us, she comforted us and she met us where we were at any given moment (birth is a rollercoaster!). And for all of that, we will be forever grateful.

We thought it would be important to have our…read moreteacher and doula be one in the same; It also provided us with more opportunities to get to know her and vice versa. The class was very beneficial and my husband and midwife even commented on how calm the Hypnobabies kept me during the birth. My husband and I questioned hiring a doula and are so glad that we found Lara! Not only are her rates very competitive, but she also brings with her experience, guidance, and expertise. We were planning for a home birth and her visit to our house was super helpful!! She was extremely thorough about what we would need at the house, but she also addressed many topics regarding our family and each other that we had not even thought about. She is the main reason I felt so calm and prepared for our baby's birth. When I started the birthing process, she was available by phone the entire day and came to our home at 11pm?! She has a gift for reading a room and creating the right mood/energy that is needed. She has such a calm, reassuring presence and I knew I was in good hands. Lara worked seamlessly with our midwife and showed my husband how to support me. We had to transfer to a hospital and having Lara (and our midwife) at my side made such a difference. I trusted her and was so grateful she was with us during the entire birth. After the birth of our son, Lara came over for yet another visit and still keeps in touch with me now (three months later). We are so glad she is in our lives!

We met Lara and liked her calm energy, her experience of having attended many births, and her ability to help us prepare for the birth. She met with us multiple times leading up to my due date and was instrumental in getting the house prepared for a home birth. During labor, Lara was my rock! I felt like she was there for me 100%, coaching me through each pressure wave. She gave my husband great instructions so that he could participate in a helpful way (like massaging my back, etc.) I believe Lara's presence helped me to relax and helped my labor to progress quickly. Even though I felt like she was with me the entire time, others at the birth later commented on how impressed they were with Lara's ability to know everything that was happening in the birth environment and to direct others when needed. It's hard to imagine my birthing time without Lara. She was so valuable to me, my husband, and to the team of midwives. I highly recommend her!

Pregnancy and giving birth was one of the most meaningful and empowering experiences of my life,…read moreand Holly played an extraordinary role in making it that way. Working with her from pregnancy through postpartum was nothing short of transformative. From the moment she took us on as clients, I felt deeply seen, cared for, and empowered. Throughout my pregnancy, she provided a wealth of resources -- from dietary guidance and exercise tips to ways to promote the growth of my baby and prepare for labor -- and helped me process and make informed decisions for myself. She anticipated questions before I even had them and ensured I felt knowledgeable and confident every step of the way about all the decisions we faced. Holly made the entire process beautiful, spiritual, informed, and deeply connected. She helped me get in touch with my own needs and empowered both me and my husband to feel confident and capable throughout. During labor and delivery, she was with us every step of the way -- whether on the phone or coming to our home to assist me in labor and guide us on navigating the transition to the hospital. In those moments of extreme intensity, Holly was so in tune with me; she knew exactly what to say and how to help me navigate each wave. It felt like she, my husband, and I were in a shared trance, and I felt completely held and nurtured. I wanted a natural labor, and Holly championed that goal every step of the way; I truly believe I would not have been able to achieve a natural birth in a hospital without her. Immediately postpartum, Holly continued to be an incredible presence during the intense and sometimes overwhelming adjustment to life on the other side of birth. She listened deeply, advocated for my mental and physical health, and again never imposed her opinions. Instead, she helped us think clearly, process our emotions, and understand our own decisions and feelings, giving us confidence in our new roles as parents. What's incredible about Holly is that she ensures you are informed, know your rights, and understand all your choices -- while always advocating for you -- yet she never makes decisions for you. She is non-judgmental, full of positivity, love, and light, and makes the journey feel sacred, grounded, and empowering. Holly is an exceptional doula and guide -- she truly transforms the birth experience. She is absolutely incredible.

Review #1017 -…read more Kudos to Holly...seriously we really enjoyed having her on our birthing team. My wife had called and wanted to interview a variety of people and within a spectrum of birthing paths. We chose Holly and it was a very good experience. First off, my wife had a wonderful phone call with her...and she was available and willing to answer all things. We then met her locally and had a face to face interview. Holly was respectful of the birth path my wife wanted, she offer advice and her experience. While we were interviewing her at a local coffee shop she was approached by another client with her recently born baby. We got to see the level of interaction between that new mom and Holly. Very impressive to see the happiness of another parent with the person she chose. So as a Dad to be, there was also the need to convince me...i wanted to make sure my wife had every person and resource. So the expense of a doula was justified pretty easily. But i wanted an active role in the birth plan and birth experience. Holly was great to me. Attentive. Gentle. She was okay with me being there in the delivery stuff and an active part of it. She did not shrug me off or anything, I was able to feel very close to my wife and newborn in the moment. My wife really loved all Holly did for her when the time came to start the birthing process. Once we knew it was go time...we planned to stay home a while and Holly came to our place and worked the first 12-15 hours with her. Then she perfectly timed the "when to go to the hospital" and as that progressed she was very preset and active with us. She was awesome and seeing how well she'd coached my wife was incredible. We got a healthy baby and my wife came through it amazingly. Holly was a very good resource and served us well as the "Offensive Coordinator" calling the plays and helping us through the game plan. Holly is super. Follow up and coaching didn't end with the hospital. She's been so good at checking in and keeping us in the learning and adjustment. Easy 5 stars!!
