Within Rolling hills Prep is the Renaissance program, which offers scaffolding and support for students with mild to moderate learning differences with support blocks and each student is assigned their own learning specialist. It's a small school which allows the community to feel very connected. The students are all very kind and welcoming and the faculty and staff is top notch! Their middle school program offers small class sizes, field trips, sports, electives, and much more. My daughter made lots of friends and loved most of the teachers. She got good grades all throughout her middle school years and earned academic honor roll and other achievements both academically and for sports. During her 8th grade year, her class did a very memorable missions trip and went to DC. She told me that it will be a year she will never forget. The staff was great and very supportive. Mrs. E did a wonderful job in her new role as the principal. Coach Phil is a special person who was always available to the students when they need someone to talk to. He was a great coach, pe teacher, and yearbook teacher. My daughter loved coach Phil and I am so grateful for him. Mr. Shook was another favorite. He taught science and history. My daughter enjoyed him because he would always crack jokes and make everyone laugh. Mr.Shook was a great teacher, however, sometimes, I think he should keep his political opinions to himself. That was the only thing that kind of made me uncomfortable. The other thing relating to staff was the staff turnover. My daughter had a different English and math teacher every year. Which was annoying because she would build a strong relationship with them, then they left and she would have to rebuild. I understand that isn't the schools fault. But it did interfere with math and her math grade. Overall, my daughter and our family loved Valor! We highly recommend this school if you are looking for a small close-knit Christian school community. We felt safe sending her which was a big deal considering the unfortunate times that we live in. The program provides your child with 50 minutes of 1 on 1 instruction and is a mix of physical activity meant to improve their fine motor skills and direct writing instruction and practice. It's awesome as well that our son loves going and looks forward to his sessions with Brian and his team. Finally for this level of expertise and individual attention I feel like their price is extremely reasonable. The foundation he received in her classroom was huge for him and truly helped prepare him to be accepted into our first-choice, very competitive private school. My daughter started in Room 2, where Ms. Tracy helped potty train her (which I'll always be grateful for), and has since transitioned into Toddler Room 5 with the lovely Nancy. Ms. Dani, who floats around the classrooms is so loved, she's an amazing assisting teacher and an extra helping hand wherever it's needed, and it makes such a difference. The enrichment programs are also a huge bonus...Mandarin and Spanish classes, plus gymnastics and dance during recess, are things you don't find everywhere and add so much to the kids' experience. Whether you plan to continue on to public school (and we're lucky to have some of the best in Palos Verdes) or move on to a competitive private school, your child will be in great hands here. The principal, Michelle Collins, is wonderful, she's always around, approachable, and easy to talk to if anything ever comes up. We truly feel lucky to have had our kids at Rolling Hills Montessori. She is warm, organized, and genuinely invested in the children and families. You can tell the school is thoughtfully run, and communication is always clear and responsive. The teachers are also outstanding, particularly Ms. Trish and Ms. Michelle. They are patient, attentive, and truly understand how to support each child's development. Our two children have made incredible progress in early reading and writing skills, and the academic foundation being built here is impressive. Our daughter was very ready for Kindergarten when she started. Beyond academics, the school creates a joyful and family community. They do an amazing job incorporating holiday and seasonal activities throughout the year, which makes the experience fun and memorable for the kids while still staying true to Montessori principles.
