This will be the best boat rental choice for you and your family. Called a week in advance and spoke with Jen. She was kind, helpful and answered all our questions about boat, size, kids and crabbing equipment. She reserved us a 20' pontoon boat for the afternoon excursion. Once we got there it was exactly what she promised and clean. We had 4 adults and 3 kids with plenty of room on the boat to move about. The boat guy from Tennessee, "Penyton Manning", was terrific with his explanation of the boat, and locations to fish and crab. We read a lot of bad reviews beforehand, but don't believe everything that you read. It was okr best day in 13 years. If you know how to drive a boat or not, just be smart, take your time and know the tides. We caught a shark and 45+ crabs in 4 hours. WE WILL BE BACK FOR SURE 100%!! GREAT day for people of all ages. The pontoon we rented had several broken seats. In addition the radio (for communication) did not work. We got a very brief lesson then we were on our own. They failed to tell us it would be low tide when we were returning which contributed to us getting stuck. Before we left they said "call us if you have any problems and we'll be out in 10 minutes." Took 20 minutes for them to get out to us, but they weren't able to pull us out. Took another hour and a half before they came back to get us. We had to walk through the bay to another boat carrying all our stuff. Insult to injury, they charged us an extra $211 for the privilege of sitting stuck in the bay for almost 2 hours getting eaten by greenheads. They didn't even call me about the extra bogus charges. I just read all these 1 star reviews. These's are rentals so don't expect a 2020 HARRIS V270 with a 250HP Merc! 90% of the people renting don't take care of the boats, dont have a boating licence and/or no experience at all. That said, I have never had a bad experience renting from South Dock. I've rented 5 times and every time has been better then the last. They are always upgrading their boats and are there to help. If you dont believe it, look at the amount of props they've replaced in the past 2 years. For the people that got stuck - If you were stuck for an hour and they couldnt pull you out, then you did call as soon as you ran aground, I've run aground and have been pulled out. If you wait too long, you'll get stuck. For those complaining about the radio,.... Bring a speaker for your phone... dont rely on a radio working on a boat. For those complaining about bugs,... Its the bay,.. bring bug spray... Remember - This is boating and its not for everyone. Everyone should review some basic rules prior to renting. Things go wrong all the time on the water. We had boat rentals before but the first here and with my niece and nephew for their birthday. It was nice being told we could call for bug spray or anything, but when we did, it was like pulling teeth. I never thought calling for help would be such an inconvenience, but it was like driving a bumping car. Not relaxing. We went back for food and decided to have them check it again. Also, the radio didn't work, which was in the flyer. Oh my, we pull in and wow, it is not professional when we are told to get off the boat; we don't know how to drive. A refund will be given get your stuff you're done. I noted this is not good business and can result in poor reviews. The unprofessionalism continued with love bad $*# reviews please give one. Can we say shock? Never had this and continued into the office. So, basically a celebration was being thrown off the boat as we were sitting there. The boat was old. ZERO STARS I am not one to leave bad reviews but I just had an awful pontoon rental experience. FILTHY, ripped broken seats, dirty old rugs , no ladder , no radio, an old dirty sink that didn't even work (the boat was so old and beat up) I then asked for a newer pontoon that I had rented before and they told me none were available. Upon returning the pontoon after the outing I spoke with the manager who was beyond RUDE and kept asking me why I chose that boat (I had no idea it was in that condition, I booked over the phone) also telling me the boat "runs fine it just isn't pretty", showing awful customer service. I cannot believe they take hundreds of dollars from people for that boat and then question them on why they chose that boat?!! Mind blown and had to spread the word. I won't rent again. Wanted to rent the 2016 pontoon boat and after he sold me. They told me it was rented so they rented for over 300 for 4 hours some dilapidated boat barely fit for the water. The chair was broke. New engine but celloid was broke so told not to turn engine off WTH then the rented rods one had no handle so you couldn't reel in one had only 8 ft of line REALLY. We're told to call and they would come right out when we called was told he was on another repair and not sure when they could help us. I would not rent from here again. Renter Beware!!! read more

Rented a boat for my family and the one they gave us had a broken gas gage and a broken depth finder. Worst customer service on island. I have never been treated so poorly in all my time. I will not rent from here again. They have teenage management who show no respect or understand to their customers. Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

We rented a pontoon boat on Friday. Want to give 0 stars but it makes you give at least 1. The boat was extremely slow, only moved 6 miles per hour (we had someone with a boating license driving and still got a boat with a 9.9 motor - horrible). Also there was NO working gauges on the boat. We were told to stay within a certain perimeter, which not being as familiar with the area and being given a map that was not easy to read, we went outside of the perimeter. This was an honest mistake and they charged us an additional $260 over the already $500 price and made us go in an hour early. I would not recommend to anyone, we will NEVER go back and will make sure we spread the word how horrible our experience was. read more

This place is a joke. Planned a nice trip today with family and got a call this morning that the fuel pump on our pontoon boat was broken and it was going to take a day or two for the owner to get a new one in. Sounds FISHY! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I rented a 12 person boat that ended up breaking down twice, stranded for two hours and got told we couldn't rent anymore cause we went swimming in the bay. This place is so unorganized and pathetic it makes me laugh. Learn how to run a business before you start one. read more

I don't know who these other reviewers felt with or if they are just lying, but my son in law had made arrangements a week in advance for a pontoon boat and he said the guy was so nice on the phone , so Bill the owner calls my son in law the night before we are going to give him a heads up that we would be out at the low tide in the middle of our rental and wanted to give him the opportunity to change to a later time , we had other commitments for the rest of the day and couldn't change , so we show up in the morning and Bill was waiting for us coffee cup in hand and big smile on his face , now we had rented a boat last year from dads place and got no instructions at all, Bill took the time to explain all the signs in the water to us and had a google satellite picture on his computer to show us where to go for fish and crabs , then his helper i am going to call him , "frog " I think was his nickname, took us down to the boat went over all operations of the boat had a printed map that he again explained to us gave us extra crabbing equipment and sent us on our way told us any problems just call and he would come to us , we spent 3 hours on the water and headed in with a nice catch of blue crabs , and the best education I got was when "frog" showed us an easy way to clean the crabs to get them ready for cooking and eating, thank you again Bill and frog for a wonderful family day , oh yea we had 5 adults and my 2 grandchildren 4 & 2 with us and no problems at all read more

We made reservations in advance and had family drive down for they day from NYC. Received a call a couple hours ahead to "confirm" but they confirmed only by asking how many people in our group and whether we had a boating license. Seemed odd at the time. We then show up before 12:30 for our 1 pm rental time and they ask us to confirm number again and then tell us they have problems with their boats. They asked if we minded downgraded to a small boat. We said we didn't. We're then brought out to the smaller boat which was literally falling apart. Broken chairs, ripped up flooring, and overall disgusting. But, we figured we didn't need much to have a good time. They then try to turn the boat on and realize the key is broken. By 1:20 with no update or fixed ignition, we walked to who seemed to be running the show to get a status update. He was in the middle of dropping "f bombs" and throwing clip boards at his staff and all over the dock. We decided it wasn't worth it and got out of the boat. All we got was a "sorry" by the woman at the front desk. When asked why we weren't called before to warn us that they had no functioning boats, she had no response other than that the person before us brought the boat in late. No way somebody was driving that thing - the key was broken, there was no anchor and half of the seats were broken. Do not rent here! read more

They quoted us a boat we wanted to rent for my sisters bday and we said we'd call back in 5 minutes to confirm and they rented it in those 5 minutes and then wouldn't even try and accommodate us with a new boat when we called back. We've rented pontoon boats in various locations over the years. This rental from South Dock Marina was the worst experience ever. The boat itself was a piece of crap. What was advertised as holding 8-10 people could actually only accommodate 6 due to missing seats. No fishing rod holders, no cup holders, and sitting on ripped vinyl seats is no fun! I could deal with all that if the boat had any power at all. It was the slowest pontoon boat I've ever rented. I coulda jumped out and swam faster... and I would have! But the boat didn't even have a ladder to get back into the boat. What a piece of crap. Other pontoon boats were flying past us. What a waste of money. For $260 for the day, we got ripped off- big time! Go somewhere else if you're looking to rent a boat down the shore. read more
