This is an interesting antiques/salvage store I stumbled upon while driving into downtown. I didn't know it was mainly salvage materials until I walked in really. I don't live in Memphis, so it's hard to take anything back home to another state. They have 3 floors of your usual materials like doors, windows, sinks, lighting, etc. Not many small items of antiques. I didn't visit the 1st level/basement since it's mainly doors and windows. I used to be a regular here when I lived in Memphis 10 years ago. South Front Antiques has always focused on architectural salvage, but now it probably makes up 90% of the store. Prices have also gone up significantly. A small mirror for $47 dollars and an old bottle for $55. South Front Antiques has a VERY large selection of antique doors, windows, hardware and bathtubs. So, if you're looking for something specific to bring some character back to your old house this is the spot, but I'd check out other stores for furniture or accessories. read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this antique shop while walking around midtown. It is a huge, three story space with every inch filled. I am a frequent antique shop goer and this one was pretty impressive. There was so much history in the building, let alone the structure itself. I live in Austin, TX where most antique shops are odds and ends. This one had more structural items like windows, doors, and moldings. As we walked through, we could feel the history of the items. It definitely had that southern Memphis feel that made you feel pride for the area in which they were taken. My only complaint is that everything seemed to be way overpriced. They likely went to a historic house in the area and gutted it. Then are trying to piece out everything for a hefty price. That being said, it is still worth going just to look at all the pieces. If anything, it was almost like walking through a museum of preserved pieces. read more

If anything architectural is missing from your midtown home, chances are it's wound up at South Front Antiques. The three-story shop is full of light fixtures, windows, mantles, claw foot bathtubs, furniture and hardware. The basement is almost entirely filled with doors that are sort of filed standing up. It's the sort of shop where great finds are lurking around every corner. Just be careful - if you look around the same corner I did, you'll come face to face with a wall full of very angry-looking mounted deer heads. South Front Antiques has been open for more than 30 years, which means that they've amassed quite a collection of stuff. There are some really unique things there, like a pinball machine, a bear skin rug, more random disembodied antlers than I've ever seen in one place, and a book called, presumptuously, "The Greatest Book Ever Written" (only $2). read more

If you own or plan to own a fabulous southern home in midtown with a wrap around porch, built in book cases and tons of vintage charm you need to head on down to South Front Antique Market. This place is busting at the seams with authentic vintage finds. Claw foot tubs, vintage windows and doors, books, stamps, baby doll heads minus the body, animal heads to hang on your wall, door knobs, bed frames, fans and fire place mantles to name a few. My husband and I are in here quite often perusing the old doors and fire place mantles, attempting to snatch up the perfect fit for a future headboard for our guest room. If you have a love of vintage and endless imagination and talent you will be in heaven. Don't expect to enter this place and have it stocked and organized, there really is no rhyme or reason to where anything is located. South Front is a hoarders dream and an OCD case's nightmare. It doesn't detour me as I love scouring for vintage finds in dusty spaces, it's my favorite way to shop. There are three levels, which we didn't discover till our third visit. Make sure to see each! Word to the wise- it is HOT in here, on every occasion we've visited there was no air conditioning. Whether it's nonexistent, or if they try to save cash I am not sure. read more

Dusty. Get ready. This place is huge and you could probably spend an entire day here poring over the various items in this store. Anything from comic books to bedposts, crystal goblets, chandeliers, and spoon collections. The storekeeper wasn't very chatty when I asked him a question, but he was friendly enough. The basement is filled with bedposts -- it's kind of creepy wondering where all of those came from. The top floor is a little lighter -- lots of old mirrors, some paintings and pictures and older furniture. If you're looking for high-quality hipper items, like white-washed antiques -- you won't find them here. You'll find the real stuff. read more

Very disappointed with this store. Spent a couple of weeks scouting out different pieces. Specifically drove to the store to ask in person if they could hold 1 piece in particular until the weekend when I was intending to buy. Was told that they would hold it for me. Then they sold it to someone else the next day. Waste of time. I'm sure other people will have a different experience, but I will never shop here again. A shame because they have nice stuff and I have a house to renovate - but if you can't count on whether their stuff is sold or available, on hold or not, then what's the point. read more

I love this place, you never know what you may run across. They have an eclectic mix of items, some may seem a little pricey but there are also treasures galore. I couled spend an entire day just browsing. read more

The variety is truly unbelievable...but so are most of the prices. Many items are no more than garage sale pieces that are marked with outlandish prices. No doubt some good finds and decent deals in there but I get immediately turned off when I see a bamboo TV tray worth 50 cents at a garage sale marked at $25. read more
