When I reviewed the invoices, there were multiple charges for similar or duplicative work, particularly related to settlement discussions. I requested a refund of at least $3,000 for what looked like repeated billing for the same services, but the firm declined and stated the charges were valid. In the end, there was no settlement ever presented in writting and the full $10,000 retainer was gone. My advice to others: make sure you clearly understand how billing will work and how many attorneys will be staffed on your case before signing a retainer agreement.
