So when told about it I was amazed and thought "there's a what?....where?" First impressions were wonderful. You step into a light airy modern space that's calm and serene. There's modern art on the walls, fresh flower arrangements and a fabulous view. Staff seem friendly and efficient. It's quite ritzy. We chose the tasting plate menu with matching wines. When we started with just one scallop I was a little worried but I needn't have been. It was beautifully cooked with a white sauce. I won't go through every dish because that would be boring. My only complaint is that the duck tortellini was just a tad too al dente and they didn't provide a spoon to scoop up that lovely broth! A small complaint. The duck itself was delicious and everything on the menu was spectacular. However, the staff let me down a little. I'm not a wine buff or snob (I don't think) but I'm curious and I like to learn. So when the waiter tells us he's pairing the riesling with the duck I asked where the wine was from. He had to go and ask the bartender (I pictured a conversation - "Shit! they want to know where the wine's from - I can't tell them 'Chateau Tanunda cask' what'll I say what'll I say?") (joke). There were 4 different wines and the waiter knew nothing about any of them & each time he had to go back and ask the bartender. Surely that's basic waitering 101! Particularly where the wines were part of the selling point of the menu. Apart from that I loved loved this restaurant! It was so lovely watching the sun set over the mountains and all the lights come on. It was a Saturday night and there should have been more people there. It is a special occasion place and the prices were high compared to the buffet in the club below, but they were not outrageous and it was worth it. I'm making inquiries about taking the family there for Christmas (specifying we must be seated in the revolving part) :).

We had the special of the day which was Tartare de Bœuf, which was amazing best I've ever tasted and I'd go back just for that but unfortunately it's not part of their regular menu. For Main my partner had duck a l'orange that he loved, had a crispy skin and cooked well. I had the pork belly which was a little disappointing as it didn't have crisp and I only order pork belly and wait with anticipation for that crunchy crispy skin but it was chewy :-( For desert my partner had the crème brûlée, which had an infused rhubarb sauce on top that just gave a weird taste, he removed it and discarded the sauce which revealed a lovely crisp sugar top and a good tasting crème brûlée to underneath, there's no need for the sauce. We opted for to go to Troohy's as it wasn't as busy. Meals are reasonable Chicken Schnitzel with chips and salad for $14.50 and lamb shanks for $19! Pretty decent sized too! You order and pay for your food separate at the kitchen counter and get a buzzer. The bar is down the back for drinks, coffee and cakes. Overall, I think it was a good lunch.

Whenever the Wanderers don't play it's dead. Their pizza's and hamburgers are top notch and love the Caesar salad with chicken. Always happy to eat there.

We ducked in around lunch time for a much needed feed, after being lured in by the flashing CRT displays of Point Blank and Ninja Turtles. Our brunch arrived super fast, along with awesome coffee and a thick shake. Our burgers came with fries which were amazing. You know those kind of fries that are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside? Yeah - those. My burger was great. Juicy chicken, bacon that was cooked right (not burnt and tough like leather), the Avo as fresh and zesty. What more do ya want? Oh, video games. Right. There's a number of classic arcade cabinets, along with consoles and VHS tapes. Most of the machines take a gold coin to get going, so be sure to bring coins. Will be back for more!

We wanted to play the machines but they obviously don't take Mastercard and the cafe staff didn't have access to any coins either. It was sad when we paid our bill and left as there was only one other customer there at lunchtime on a Saturday. She always raved about how good they were so I decided I must try it for myself some time! They have a good selection of sandwiches but nothing I haven't seen before. I guess it's about knowing what you want in there. I just got a chicken sandwich and it was rather nice. If you feel like a big and easy lunch this is a great spot for it. I must say that the coffee is delightful so it's definitely worth noting that. The sandwiches are just sandwiches on the other hand. Remarkably better than Subway, of course, but not gourmet to the point where you really feel like it's an indulgence.

First observation is that, it's more of an alcohol festival than an eating one. Almost half of is wine and liquor with one quarter coconut water and lastly 25% of stuff that you can actually eat. Value My biggest gripe is the overall value of the offering. I don't expect freebies, but these restaurants must have made a killing. Charging a range from 150% to 300% or more of their restaurant menu, it is certainly better to book a table and eat in the comfort of their respective restaurants. Easy to be critical of them, without knowing the festival fees but their is no value in the food they sell. The following do leave a sour after-taste: * Fast food version of their usual standard in terms of quality * Premium price for fast food version - usual stuff was at least $12/crowns and the really interesting dishes that I wanted to try were $20+/crowns for minuscule portions and/or sold out anyways. * Expensive entry fee * No seating * Long queues for anything good Quality of restaurants Unknown chef or more a cook from Rojo Rocket who demos how to make... guacamole in a two minute session, seriously? (probably just a bad session, but still it put me off). What next? How to fold a burrito? Quality of participating restaurants has gone been declining over the last four years, sure some have one or two so called hats but most of them are unknowns that should not be commending those prices with the exposure they are getting. Payment Crowns? non-transparent way for making attendees waste and overspend. No easy way to check your balance and knowing how much is really being deducted. Conclusion These are neither the best restaurants nor best chefs in Sydney. What kind of business model is this? where entry is at least $20-30 and on top of that, charge a premium for the fast food versions of the restaurant menu? If you do decide go next year to, set aside at least $150 per person and it still might not be satisfying. End of the day, I will not be in a hurry to visit any of these restaurants. On the other hand, you will probably have a blast if you have no expectations and just going drinking, chilling with some mates. What a great evening we had at Taste of Sydney…read more It was a lovely warm night, perfect for wandering stall to stall checking out what everyone had on offer. The guide was very useful, letting you know what the main restaurants had available and even highlighting their featured dish. Off we went! We made a beeline for 4Fourteen to try the suckling pig. Disappointed? Most certainly not. A large helping of slow cooked pork and pickled veg, delicious. And a porky perfect way to start the night. We also tried Nels famous ham chips with pea purée, bbq lamb and South African sausage, delicious saffron pasta and beef shin ragu from Otto, pork belly (more crackling please!) and charred brussel sprouts. Water, we need water. No refill points onsite. That's a shame, and unlike Sydney. Thank goodness for OH! giving out sugary sparkling water! Hurrah! We are saved. After spending just $50 to eat food from some great restaurants and also consuming various tasters jams, chutneys, crackers, wines and other drinks, I headed home very full and happy. The Taste of Sydney for me was definitely the taste of pork. Yum. Thanks for the tickets Yelp!
